Dsimmer: we don't have a progressive developmental framework for our national teams which is a major headache, right now we don't know who will be our coach and we have World Cup qualifiers coming up. We dabble in competitions and hope for a miracle, after the 2013 trophy we could not even qualify for the 2015 edition. In 2019 we were in the semis and in 2021 we got eliminated in the second round, that is not how you can win subsequent editions of Afcon. You need a deliberate progressive framework of management of coaches and players and we can't because we do not manage even a little success well. This is why I was pained on Sunday cos it was a lost opportunity to make it our 4th trophy. We are not too good at regrouping especially with the way we chop and change coaches like pieces of cloth. Until we have stability in our football administration, especially with those who call themselves technical committees, omo we may not achieve much. 1 Like |

Dsimmer: I think you are misunderstanding the point. When did Aribo come in? We were practically chasing the game. What was he coming in to do of he wouldn't pass then?if the instruction was to sit back and keep things compact, then where will you get the ball to make the passes u are talking about when we ceded all possession? 1 Like 1 Share |

Joezinho: People are harder on iwobi due to his lazy style of play. For example, Tank onyeka might not be the best passer or creative outlet but he puts his heart on his sleeve. As for iwobi, he needs to search for his best position, improve on his conditioning and fitness training and has some end results. As a center midfielder in 8 games, 0 goals nor assists is hard to forgive 1 Like |

kennysville: So you meant the midfield were advised not to have possession or get on the ball if not for the fact that the midfield wasn't technical enough? Even defensively, the midfield couldn't protect the defence either. |

leathalbeast: Overconfidence bawo? In a final game when nerves were so frayed and pressure was so high, on the contrary we were sitting ducks. If we were over confident, we would be attacking CIV back |

Dsimmer: Next tournament should have technical midfielders who can control the midfield at least, as well as being defensively solid. Iwobi could play as 10 or forward. |

Bannedlargedx2:You don't expect a central midfielder to get many assists, he didn't play Attacking Midfielder which is his main role but central midfield, and he got some pre assist in the tourney, and it was his brilliant forward pass that resulted in the corner kick from which Nigeria scored against Ivory Coast. That's the kind of things you expect from a central midfielder. Iwobi, just like a regular attacking midfielder like Ozil tend to lose ball possessions because they make many forward passes which some of them are successful and some of them gets intercepted. the game was prosecuted with only two midfielders, and Iwobi was tasked with too much to do which is not supposed to be so. You don't play a player like Ozil in central Midfielder role and also expect him to be marking, incepting and winning ball possessions, and functioning as an Attacking Midfielder at the same time. 1 Like |

COOL10:the thing about this iwobi matter is that the people justifying it are saying it is criticism and it is a big lie considering that whenever we suffer any major loss in football, we don't know how to criticize. we make threats and insult. This is not the first time it would happen to iwobi. After the 2021 afcon outing iwobi and okoye had to lock their accounts because of the insults. One !diot on IG screenrecorded iwobi's page saying that iwobi is not a serious player since his IG is filled with more personal content than football. the people using messi as an example are even funnier. Messi had to be begged back to come and play each time he quit the national team. Anyone saying it's just criticism is just being silly with the truth. 1 Like |

Moniter0: iwobi is not Ozil and should never be in the same sentence as Ozil.. Ozil was getting old ( 31 years old ) and could no longer run around like he used to while iwobi is 27 years old and was standing still and ignoring passes to him and allowing opposition player run past while he stands still and watches them run past him. if iwobi was tasked with "too much to do" what will you say about Ayinde and Ucheibe during the women world cup. stop defending mediocrity of iwobi.. if he was tired he could have sat down on the field and say they should sub him off. 3 Likes |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by komekn(m): 9:12pm On Feb 13 |
Dsimmer: We have agreed that one dimensional players with just one main skill set are essentially obsolete in the modern game. Sometimes it takes just 15 minutes to see the core skill sets of a player. Onyedika is immobile, not particularly fast ,not skilful and with limited technical ability. Strong and physical a big yes. He doesn't have the attributes for a top level DM Holding Midfielder that can defend attack and orchestrate play from the midfield. We need to look elsewhere. 1 Like |

Moniter0: That’s true but you shouldn’t show sign of laziness or lackadaisical. There were time that, iwobi was just strolling on the pitch. He needs to continue work on his conditioning. Ask yourself, why people aren’t hard on onyeka despite onyeka not scoring or assisting 1 Like |

Thomas Partey, Lamine Camara, Pape Matar Sarr and Ibrahim Sangare are the midfielders who were present in this just concluded AFCON, whose style of play impresses me the most. You know what? Kelechi Nwakali impresses me more than the aforementioned. He is a game controller, and he creates more chances. To control a game you need a good level of technique, this is where he and Thomas Partey towers above the midfielders that I have mentioned. 1 Like |

Yesso, my good brother!! If we hadn't scored first it might not have been that painful! It really pained me too, so much! But what can we do! Many more AFCONs to play in our life time! It was amazing to see how the boys effort united us all. We are definitely proud of them all. It is well, my brother! Mujtahida: 1 Like 2 Shares |
