Union Protests Ban On Sachet Alcohol In Abuja, Gives NAFDAC 14 Days by peekspot(m): 5:40pm On Feb 13

Members of the Food, Beverage and Tobacco Senior Staff Association of Nigeria has given the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) 14 days to reverse its ban on sachet alcohol.

The association, an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), issued the threat during a protest at the NAFDAC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

Members of the association threatened to increase protests across the Agency’s offices nationwide if nothing is done about it.

The National President of the association, Jimoh Oyibo, led the protest and submitted a letter containing the demands of the union.

According to Oyibo, the ban hurts the union, as most of its members work in the distilling and blending companies.

On February 1, NAFDAC started the enforcement of the ban on alcoholic beverages in sachets, and glass bottles of 200ml and below.

NAFDAC boss Mojisola Adeyeye, said as of January 31, 2024, no such beverages were registered with the NAFDAC.

Those selling these items should go buy shot glasses.

Buy the big bottles and sell shots to your customers.

The amount of beggars in Abuja is becoming too much... there is hunger in the land ...I spent nothing less than 10k any time I go out just on beggars.

First, that union is for workers in that food, beverage, tobacco and alcohol industry.

NAFDAC did not ban them from work...production will still continue...and if they are retrenched due to redundancy...the union should fight for their welfare package, not continued production of a banned substance.

And again, the ban was well agreed by the producers and nafdac bout 5yrs ago, to take full executive effect in Jan 2024.

They were all aware, and should have made plans for change management...the union was aware also.

Misplaced priority of union...continued production isn't the problem...safeguard your jobs in the light of the change...don't let these big companies reap you off coz of the change.
Matter of fact, hold your companies to ransom if they disengage y'all indiscriminately, coz they were aware of the coming change...especially if you were not engaged as a Temporary worker.

The union of those shayo producers had an MOU with NAFDAC in December 2018 that they would phase out those products and the ban will come into effect in January 2024. They had 6 years to plan but they didn’t.

They claimed that what they signed then was a policy document and not an MOU.

They’re not ready. The ban has come to stay.

Agbero Association suppose join this protest.

Meanwhile to you all,

Learn to forgive. Do yourself that favour always.

Forgiveness is a demonstration of the nature of God. It is an act of obedience.

It involves you not thinking about the offence and just forgetting about whatever transpired. If you keep thinking about the issue, you will find it very difficult to forgive.

If you don't forgive, your heart and emotions will be caged and the person you are harbouring unforgiveness about will be walking freely and may not even be aware of your unforgiveness.

Forgive so God can also forgive you.

Matt.6.14 - "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

Learn to blend with suffereness your mean? Everyone has suddenly remembered the words "patience" and "understanding" under Tinubu regime. The same words they never believed in under Goodluck Jonathan.

Of all the things they thought of banning, it is sachet alcohol they saw. They didn't see fake skin care brands to ban. Alcohol that has been giving men joy since 1666.
