He was okay in the bits that I saw. There are parts of his game he still needs to iron out tho. If he doesn’t make it here, he’ll make it elsewhere.

Well, the thing is that only one mistake shouldn't define him. I went through his list of players at Brighton and Newcastle and omorr it was really impressive.

Trust me, they must have reviewed the pros and cons. In the long run, Tonali will deliver for Newcastle and if he does not, they can still recoup a good amount they spent to sign him since he is still young.
