Krismas: Well, I know that when Nigeria sent sattelites into space, people complained about the money spent. Same thing when India sent a robotic mission to Mars. As at the time of the lunar landing, the USA had a large poverty problem (yes, it was not as bad as other nations, but to many Americans, no one should be poor in their country) and was fighting a war in Vietnam that was costing them a lot of money, and did not end till 1972. And also had a massive aid program to poorer countries. And it was spending a lot of money to combat all these issues. And they were also spending billions to send about 15 or so men to the moon. See how it burdens their budget already.? The only reason why the American congress supported the moon landing was to beat the Soviets. Once done, the show was over. Many Americans wanted an end to the spending too. That has not stopped NASA from doing other projects 1. Mars : Mariner series (1965),Viking 1 and 2 1976, and several others from 1996. 2.Jupiter: Pionner 11 and 12, Gallileo, Cassini (1974, 1994, 2005/6) 3.Saturn : Voyager 1 and 2, 1980, Cassini HYugens, 2006 4.Uranus, Neptune (Voyager 1 and 2). 5.Mercury : Mariner (1965) Let's even talk about the USSR 1.Moon: Two unmanned probes 1971 2.Venus: Venera series 1970's and 80's 3.Mars: Several probes 1960's and 70's. 4. Space stations : Salyut, Mir, etc etc. 1 Like |

Discountsempai: You see when you sell a propaganda, it is easier to see through. Any enlightened nairalander, would agree with me, the context of your submission, suggest an artificial material (satellite) made from earth materials and placed in a delusive environment. Just go through your comment again. I still maintain, you don't need to land on so called moon to invent any technology 1 Like |

Re: Moon Landing Today: US Clinches First Touchdown In 50 Years by Discountsempai: 11:07am On Feb 23 |
Broveens42: There is no propaganda. It is a fact of history the US landed on the moon, and it is a fact of history they did it first. It does not make the US a good or nice country, they are still imperailstic, and there are no good countries, just interests.....but they landed a man or men on the moon. You can shout propaganda, but I believe in the advances the US, USSR and many other countries have made in space exploration. I always feel happy whichever country does anything in space. I don't have to bother about propaganda. Besides, the Russians obviously believe the USA put men on the moon, as they had spies all over the USA, and were monitoring the whole thing via satellite. But at the end, you are free to believe that the USA never landed men on the moon. It's your life, and it does not cause me or anyone else any harm. I am free to believe they did, and it does not make me a propagandaist. The only dissapointment I have is that the money has not been enough to send more manned exploration to the moon, Mars, or even deep space. And that we don't have technology to explore the myriads of other planetary systems that exist out there. Maybe one day... 1 Like |

Discountsempai: The oyibo we all know are progressive in terms of tech advancement so you can't tell me they will abandon that kind of investment after spending that much. Iam only wondering why it has not been replicated. From car to any tech you can imagine has been advanced since the 70's. 1 Like |

DeepSight: Givien that the moon regulates Earth's climate. As the only natural satellite of the earth, any cosmic disturbance to the earth will ultimately impact on the moon since it is held in orbit by Earth's forces. Also, man orchestrated disaster on the moon will have a far reaching negative impact on earth. The moon is not another planet, it's earth only natural satellite. |

matify83: To do exactly what you are advocating for, the race to the moon, reseach and subsequent discoveries will help understand and subdue the earth better. You must not be a science student? |
Re: Moon Landing Today: US Clinches First Touchdown In 50 Years by Discountsempai: 11:24am On Feb 23 |
Artscollection: Well, one thing about tech advancement is that it is subject to return on investment. Like now, it is possible for the USA to set up a lunar base...and man it. The problem is, why spend billions for work that may not yield anything in return at that same value? It is easy to land on the moon. But at the end, does it bring anything of value? Is it worth spending billions of taxpayer revenue for? All the moon landings did was bring back some rocks for analysis. Space travel and exploration is expensive. That's why we don't have frequent lunar landings or a base on the moon. At the end, humans want return on investment, even governments. |

Broveens42: Well, I doubt that the US and USSR would have wasted billions on space programmes for propaganda things. This was an effort involving scientists on both sides, which yielded a lot of inventions and stuff , some of which you use today. (Fiberglass is an obvious example). At the end, the US , USSR and all spacefaring naitons have sent men and satellites and probes to space. If you want to believe it is propaganda , fine. I am free to believe that they did, and you are decieving yourself because you think the US Is evil. (I think all nations are evil, including mine, and they all have interests. That's why we have international bodies anyway). |

Discountsempai:why dont you admit america sent unmanned moon landings 5 times after Apollo 11? why no money suddenly? how sensible is that. go to moon, america has 5 flags on it, showing the number of times they have visited. the first flag is nowhere to be seen it should have been 6flags. but they claim the first flag may have been blown away. 1 Like |

Krismas: I took your advice, and this is the first thing google showed me Apollo 11 was the first crewed mission to land on the Moon, on 20 July 1969. There were six crewed landings between 1969 and 1972, and numerous uncrewed landings, with no soft landings happening between 22 August 1976 and 14 December 2013 SAUCE So, you were wrong. I have asked google, and google has spoken. But now, you would start saying 'Kompromat'. |

(Iraq war benefited chinese oil companies more than US oil companies. Also benefitted the Iranians too) |

Discountsempai:the summary is simply that the first manned moon landing was a hoax. its definite. if sending a man to the moon were possible others would have replicated it even if America suddenly can no longer afford to repeat it. no human being can survive the belt of heat in deep space. there is no way to surmount this obstacle for now. a robot can take the heat. but a human cant. thats why its unmanned galore in moon landings for now 1 Like |

GoodSpirit: Definitely, moon landing generally, is the biggest scam you can ever think of after Religion. What's even the difference. What is the rationale behind landing on an object that supplies the earth... What is scientific about moon landing? Give details. What materials are you looking for in the moon that's so special and can't be found on earth? Why are they not quick to cross the lines at the Antarctica on planet earth, give us more information, rather than placing restrictions? Why are there so many sites on planet earth, placed with global restrictions? 1 Like |

Discountsempai: They must have factored all those indices before the lunar exploration and there has been several failed attempts that have not been in the public domain for some reasons. Lunar exploration is a very lucrative one if you can come up with the technology to harness the potential. If they could land man in d 70's i strongly believe that the same technology could have evolve by now. Elon musk is building a starship That is one aspect of lunar exploration n he listed alot of other obstacles that need to be taken care of which i Believe wasnt possible then. 1 Like |
