Maybe he has a point that the Igbo speaking parts of Rivers and Delta were originally Igbos

He does. Oyigbo and Obio Akpor LGAs should have been in the South East in an Igbo State.
A small part of Delta too. A tiny part.

See how I can be honest? And these are minority of the minority tribes.

Ikom LGA alone in Cross River has 17 tribes. 17! Just one LGA. And there are 21 LGAs in the state. How can you claim they are yours?

but for the other South South states I believe he's just capping.

That's why hé's insáne. A captured man trying to rewrite the history of his capturers.

Ibibio which stretch far and wide and with a well-documented history which he doesn't have is where he claims are a subset of him.

So, Itshekiris, Urhobos, Ijaws, Binis, Esans and the likes in the South South are Igbos, right?

This trick is exactly what they used during the Civil War to try to shortchange us. Trying to rename Uyo to "New Owerri" under the guise of oneness while trying to relocate their people there. We saw this. Others did and backed out of the failed Civil War.

Continue to turn in your grave, Col..Effiong for not abandoning the War sooner like the Ibibio Union advised. Ikot Ekpene, Ini, Etim Ekpo, Essien Udim and other LGAs suffered casualties for clandestine usurpers.

That's why if you agitate for Biafra in these areas, you'd be shot on sight. On sight!

You're so ignorant. Even if I'm not Igbo, I know more about the Igbo spirituality more than you do. Christianity has corrupted the illusion of knowledge you think you've.

Traditionally, Chukwu isn't a title. Chukwu is the chief (pagan) god of the Igbos before the advent of Christianity in that sub-region.

Obasi, the chief god of the Efiks, Ibibios, and Annangs, is distinct from Chukwu, the chief god of the Igbos.

The British slavemasters taught that Chukwu is a title, and Chukwu is the same as Obasi, Yahweh, and Jesus, and you believe so in this day and age.

Lols

Very funny. Abassi isn't the same as Chukwu or Yahweh or Jesus Christ.

How will someone be saying this in the 21st century? Lols.

Just like those mumunis in South western states dey call Olorun Olodumare, the chief pagan god of the Yorubas, the same as Yahweh or Allah.

How will the country develop when most people demonstrate this low of intelligence in this day and age? Really pathetic

So many "dense" people in the country.
In all my engagement with you in this discussion of history and origins, I have not for once mentioned Jesus or Yahweh. You are the one mentioning those names. Yet I am the one who is being influenced by white slave masters.

Check yourself. grin

You said Efik call the diety Abassi which is correct. I said Igbos call Obasi. You claim to know Igbo spirituality more than me, yet you are struggling with juxtaposing Abassi and Obasi.

I guess you are ashamed that you are ignorant.

Which one is force? I travelled to Benue and met a community speaking Igbo. I asked them they said they are Igbos. I went back to my history of early Nigeria Eastern region and found out they were part of it and were only carved out by the military.

Whoever is using force is the ones trying to break the Igbo community. I didn't force them to speak Igbo.

lol.

Benue people were never part of any Eastern region. U don't know history and u are laying claim to be an expert at it.

Those people u claim speak Igbo possibly migrated there a long time ago and they settled there. There's a Yoruba community in Delta state(I think they call them Olukumnmi or something like that). They migrated and settled there a long time ago; it doesn't mean they are indigenous to Delta na.

Back to Efik, what exactly are u using to back ur claim up that they were ever Igbo?
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by A001: 4:46pm On Mar 01
As I said before, a simple way to know if an ethnic group is the same as another one is to check their native spiritual system. And no, Chukwu isn't a title as claimed by your Bible and Sunday school teachers.

Chukwu or Chineke is the chief god or deity of the Igbos before the advent of Christianity.

Abassi, Obasi are the chief gods of the Efiks, Ibibios, Ekoi, and Annangs.

Oghene, who is also called Osanobua, is the chief god of Urhobo and Isoko people.

Fenibeso is the chief god of the Ijaw people.

Ohmorihi is the chief god of thr Ebira/Igala people.

Olorun Olodumare is the chief god of the Yoruba people.

All these deities are some of the key ancestors of Africans.

They're not titles of God.

These pagan gods are not the same as Allah, the chief god of the Arabs or Yahweh, the chief god of the Israelites.

If the majority of the citizens of a country can't even recognize their ancestors, how will they develop?

How would a black man be always praying to a white man (Yahweh or Jesus Christ) or an Arab (Allah) and expect their country to develop and make progress?

As an African, you don't share any connection or ties with Allah or Yahweh/Jesus Christ.

This is really a pathetic and gloomy situation.

I'm not sure of the complete ethnic profile of Akwa Ibom, but Ibibio doesn't sound like Igbo sha, so what exactly is your reason for claiming Ibibio is Igbo?
Enugu doesn't sound Igbo to me either.

I am not saying everybody is Igbo. What I am saying is that the modern day idea of being Igbo is different from historical evidence. So that many communities today that claim to be apart from Igbo are actually Igbos.

In essence, Igbo is a generic identity. Simple

The fact that it irritates you means that there is truth in it.

When I give out such information, it is not meant for anyone to accept or reject. That choice is entirely personal. After all there are many people who have taken up other nationality. My cousins in Canada don't consider themselves Nigerians talkless of Igbo.

Shush it!

You are one of the most fact-checked persons on this thread because you always lie.

You give out incorrect statistics and you get shamed always. You made outlandish claims.

You thought you were going to get away with lies unchallenged but I busted you.

You still have the proving who is the ape man challenge to deal with.. You went tribalistically racist (double prejudicial) so live up to it.

[b] I'd dig up pictures of Igbos walking around naked in barns and hamlets, and I dare you to dig up any of the Ibibios going about everyday business like apes. All in the 1900's.

So you mean there's no case even in situations where up to 3-4 generations ago the people have been speaking Igbo? This thing doesn't work like that. You can't be not Yoruba simply because you say you're not Yoruba.

That's why I asked him to show history records that says Efiks are Igbos or Otukpo people of Benue were ever Igbo.

If I say I'm not Yoruba, I will show u historical accounts and records that shows I'm not Yoruba.

Except he's saying Igbo's don't have historical records or cannot trace their roots and branches.

My issue with you is your inability to individualise your beefs.

Izzou, unlimited, obainojazz, Roland17 are all Igbos if I remember and they have not attempted to do this thing you are accusing all Igbos about because of Spy360 and the other guy.

Also Spy360 can you come up with a better claim than just spoken language.
There are places in the middle-belt that speak mostly hausa today but they have no original tribe that spoke hausa.
It just became an acceptable form of communication which they are beginning to regret because the fulani's/hausas are using it to claim that the middle-belt is a part of arewa

Start with the fact that Igbo is a generic identity. Same way we have Russians. Ukrainians, Belarusians, etc are all Russians. That's history. One may choose to deny it (something I am not opposed to) but then history remains what it is.

So anybody from the moment u cross River Niger at Onitsha is Igbo till u get to Cameroun? grin

Whether with subliminals, passive aggression, or direct head-on dive into the fray, in defense of their tribesperson on any such issue, regardless of whether he's at fault. The Ibibios have different Abasi.

1. Abasi Eyong - god of the skies

2. Abasi Ikpa isong - god of the earth (This is supposedly the deadliest and called on for vengeance. Controls Ekpo Nka Owo (the law against adultery) like the case which happened in Delta of a cheating confessed housewife dying.)

3. Abasi eyong mme isong - god of the skies and the earth

4. Abasi ukod - god of in-laws (Ibibio culture requires you to defend your in-laws to death so a man who flees harm from anywhere to his wife's place would be defended to death. No excuses. And if you hurt him, there are repercussions.)

5. Abasi eyeyen - god of grandchildren (Your maternal family are expected to defend you and provide for you with their lives in times of need and hurting you comes with grave consequences. I'm more likely to get way with a bad deed at my mother's hometown than her elder brothers' kids, my cousins. That's the rule. I can't be hurt. Until I do extreme).

6. Abasi ederimbot - god of the universe.

If you say because you understand kwale then they had or have an Igbo identity, there should be stories or something to atleast tie it all together.

Now I understand that the civil war did damage to the Igbos. From people denying they are Igbos for fear of their lives to those who relocated and settled.

But there should be historical writings before the war was waged against the Igbos.

Almost all the ethnic groups in the SE Nigeria are Igbos. The thing is that, Igbo is a very general identity with numerous variants. Before the civil war, most of those communities consider themselves Igbo. It was the Nigerian government in the bid to weaken the people and use the divide and rule tactics broke the Igbo people apart and made some deny their heritage for a morsel of bread.

I am Owerri for example. My dialect is almost the same as Ikwerre. I cannot understand a man from Enugu or Abakiliki. But Enugu is Igbo and Ikwerre think they are not.

The Igbo cultural set cuts across Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta, Benue, Edo, Kogi etc.
I'm from Owerri too. Ebony language like Izzi, Abakiliki sounds like foreign language to me. Afikpo is fair, you need to clean your ear well to hear it clearly and can understand it as words there sometimes relates to imo and Abia dialects

What the hell is this? What sort of self-victimisation is this? You have always seemed like an apologist seeking validation.

Nobody wagged a War against Igbos during the Civil War. Ojukwu took a side for the Eastern region, Gowon took a side for Nigeria.

We in the Eastern region lost lives, properties and more because we were on the Biafran side. The Nigeria Army rained bombs in Igbo lands and in present-day Akwa Ibom, Delta, and parts of Rivers. There are still testaments to the Nigeria Army bombing in Ikot Ekpene and other places.

The Igbos weren't the only victims. We were too. The Biafra side killed too. There was a siege in Ore and Port Harcourt too. No?

We just learnt to move past it and stop playing victims.

The man who wrote Godswill Akpabio's biography which is on sale wrote a book called "Civil War Child". He's a medical doctor but was in the Civil War when bombs rained in Ikot Ekpene.

Do you know Akpabio's family in his native Ikot Ekpene suffered grave casualties as soldiers for Biafra and as innocent community dwellers too?

When Ojukwu went into exile, it was an Ibibio man who saw the War to the end.

This attitude of claiming Igbos suffered alone while downplaying the contributions of others is another reason why these other tribes in the Old Eastern Region no longer want a part of any such Union in the future.

The Biafran side killed like the Nigerian side. The Biafran side suffered famine and starvation everywhere, in and outside Igbo land.

Nobody waged war on the Igbos. It was a War against and for Biafra. Stop the self-victimisatiom and pity party.
