Hey 🤠

1. Your main family in Nigeria , permanent studio, and previous art works (exhibition) are your ties .

2. You do not have a background degree in Art but you possess the skill while your career is progressing, hence, your reason for putting in for MFA in which you even came out with outstanding result (full funding).

3. If i am the vo, you have won my heart already even if you are unable to prove much ties to your home country .

4 But before i issue your F1 visa, I will verify your previous works (via your DS 160 details , LinkedIn, physical art works evidences etc) because i will personally based your F1 visa on your Passion (post study plans) for your job, and the accreditation of that institution that issued your Form I 20 .

Best Wishes 🙏

Thank you for your input.

Baba, you'll receive an email once your request has been approved. Only after then can you schedule an interview appointment. Until then, you'll need to calm down and wait for the email. Cheers!

Thanks. Any idea what the waiting time is?

Hey 🤠

1. Follow @MrSoftlife 's advice . I support everything she stated.

2. By the way , you did not win Visa Lottery , why would you want to quickly go with your family ? F1 visa in all levels ( Bsc, Msc, Phd) are usually being denied as a result of inability to prove ties as well as inability to prove availability of funds. Why do you want to quickly go with your greatest tie ( your wife and kids) ?

3. If you secure this F1 visa as a PhD applicant , then you are on your way to becoming a permanent resident in the USA (all through citizenship if you desire to do so) , now let anyone come out to say that the USA vos won't give your nuclear family visas to come and join or visit you after some years . Impatient is what i am deducing here .

4. Quoting @MrSoftlife again. If you however desire to go with your family at a go it is still very possible and it has happened before , but i personally will focus on getting myself in America first . I know my family will certainly join me no matter how long.

Best Wishes 🙏

Thanks so much and @MrSoftlife

1. I’m not planning on going with them immediately, they’ll need to come at a later date as my wife is working and currently running her MBA here in Nigeria.

2. Your suggestions were the original plan till 2 of my mentors who contributed immensely in this journey raised the issue of going together citing what they went through before their wives could join them.

I would appreciate if we can connect personally via DMs and if there’s a way I can run my story because it will hurt my wife to think she jeopardize my chance if it didnt work hence my post here

Stick to your story.

Does your funding cover the living expenses of your dependents? How do you intend to cover this?
If you can answer these questions then you have it all figured out.

Hey 🤠

1. Those 2 of your mentors are not the consulars who will issue your family visas. They have being mentoring you does not mean that they are gods who cannot make mistakes . They are advising you out of hastiness . They went through hell before their wives could join them but their wives eventually joined them. Right ? They guided and focus on their own visas by applying individually but they want you to apply with your family right away.

2. Even if you have full fundings that covers your family expenses , your F1 and F2 visas are not automatic and you have not won a visa lottery. Outstanding applicants of your kind are coming to the same University from Ghana, South Africa, Australia, UK, Netherlands etc, and the consulars have these records. There is an adage that says give a thief a long rope and he will hang himself . The fundings you have secured applies to all nations.

3. Going immediately with your family is seen as distractions. Consular officer sees you (phd applicant) as a potential permanent resident or even an American citizen whose family/spouse will eventually join at a later time. PhD students have the highest drop-out rates of all academic levels and that program you taught won't last more than 4 years can take 10 years .

4. Ipso facto, consulars sees your (unnecessary F2) dependents as a distractions against bagging your doctorate degree (either your funds covers them or not). Another point is that on the day of your interview or before the day of your interview , 5 qualified applicants might have gone for the same visa on the same school and in the same department . Visas has to be rations . All qualified applicants cannot secure same visas in the same session/year.

5. If however you are hell-bent in applying together with your family as a result of your spouse pressure (based on happiness and eagerness to be with you in America) , well it is still very possible . I m not knocking out the possibility 100%. But your calculation and home work is beyond " Hey go ahead you have a full fundings " Hey you have a good profile go and have your visas with your family .

Best Wishes 🙏

Had my F-1 visa interview yesterday for my phd and I got it. Fully funded too. However, I told the consulate that I am single and not married and the VO probably wrote that down right there. However, the possibility of me getting married before I leave for the program is high. Won’t this be an issue for my woman if she starts appearing for a F-2 visa interview in few years to come by God grace?

Well, to add.. I saw family people getting denied yesterday. I don’t know their visa purpose but then going to an F-1 interview with your wife and kid look somehow

Hi People,

Please I need information. I recently got admission for my master's degree in the USA. Can I declare two sponsors? One is my parent and the other younger sibling. One resides in the UK and the financial proof will be foreign bank.

A response will be much appreciated.

Hey 🤠

1. At least you are happy that you got the visa first . Someone who doesn't have a USA visa won't think about bringing in family or wife . Congratulations.

2. Your would-be wife will not have any issue joining you and she doesn't need to join you on F2 visa. She can join you via B2 visiting . Even if she joins you via F2 visa she will still need to change status before she can work because F2 visa is absolute dependent .

3. If i were you (as a smart Nigerian), i will plant a seed in her before traveling and by the time you are in the USA she would delivered . Now tell me the VO who won't allow your wife and kid to visit you ? It might not be in one appearance (depends on how you plan it) but your family will eventually join you. Let her join you on B2 visa later .

Hey 🤠

1. Don't declare 2 sponsors . It would be confusing . Both of them are your blood relatives, therefore use the one with most financial capability. If the one with highest financial capability lives in a village in Nigeria pls use him/her, if it's the UK sibling then go ahead and use him/her .

2. You can use foreign financial evidences. The USA embassy can verify it in minutes.

Lol..laughing at your last point 😂.. but then, do you think a VO will grant a woman a B1/B2 visa having known her husband is in the US as F-1, and that it’s difficult that she’ll come back. And the reason I’m scared about the F-2 is that I already told them that I’m not married.

Hey 🤠

@Alakoriomo . Common don't behave like your moniker

1. Even if you are a USA citizen your wife may decide not to stay in America with you for the rest of her life. Therefore opting for B2 visiting is her choice . It's none of the business of the consular and ** There is no law , rule or policy that says PhD student dependents or family must come to the USA on F2 visas.

2. You already told the consular that you are not married and the consular expect you to remain unmarried for life ? Common , USA consulars , embassies and government expects changes in circumstances of human beings .

You can use the two sponsors for the issuance of your Form I-20. Since they're both family members, the school will indicate on your I-20 "Family" as the sponsor. Their names are not indicated. This is helpful as the total value of your proof of fund will be higher to meet the required cost of attendance.

There's no rule that states you can't be sponsored by more than one person and definitely does not affect the outcome of your interview.

If asked during interview, you can provide the statement of accounts.

When’s your interview?

Actually, God did it. However, having funding helps. Because she didn’t even ask me questions more than four or so. And when she saw my funding, she said “ohh, you’re a fully funded PhD student”. And I said yes. Then she asked what would u be doing when u come back, and I gave some very stupid answer which wasn’t even coherent..lol..I wasn’t really vocal (was tense and tired and anxious and I was fasting Ramadan too) while answering her, and she was the one that ask me to relax ☺️ lol

She already decided to give the visa after she saw excess funding on my i20. Funding helps , even if it’s little, it will save you from too much talks and unnecessary salaye
