The tragedy was top notch. Can't believe I was moved to tears when Nemesis died and the boy was with her. It's so chilly chilling scene.

Also when Gunner died.. that's expected. Athelisas must pay for her sins one way or the other

Its nice when Jimmy showed up too to join the fight..

There are times when Nollywood surprises me with thier strong storytelling which seems to always strengthen my convictions that this Industry can make gems like this, that touch on important topics without the usual trope of the "raz", crass, unnecessary loudness and prop, we have been used to in recent times.

Damilola Orimogunje's For Maria Èbún Pàtàkí, touch on a "forbidden" topic and dared where no other film maker in recent times in this clime has dared to venture. For a runtime of a little over an hour, it tells a story of "Derin", who after a traumatic birth experience, falls into postpartum depression and feels disconnected from the child, and basically everyone around her, failing to even realize what was going on and how to even help because the normal "Nigeria condition" doesn't allow for trivia stance like been "depressed" and any form of mental health check is taken with levity here, and so, our dear Aderinsola is easily just tagged as a "Bad mother".

The whole thing was done in basically one location with about 5 cast, but with this meagre resources they were able to tell a very important story with alot of takeaways. Gabriel Afolayan shines here, as he always do, but Meg Otanwa's Aderinsola portrayal of a new mother with zero emotional attachment, was the real deal.her mannerism and utterances were all too real, a clear sign of a supreme performance.

The set location and cinematography was blended in a gloomy and dark way, which horned home the narrative and made it easily relatable, they also threw in some macabre score to serenade the whole thing. They were sound editing and mixing issues but i will forgive those.

i can't promise this is a happy story, far from it, it is as gloomy and dark as they come, but it is a good watch, and i wish more Nigerian filmmakers are this bold to tell, these type of stories.

Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver....7/10


This movie was better than the first but the underlying issues remain...

Characters...characters...characters...


Rather than spending time developing many of the characters, the movie spent more time using music and "emotional baits" to attempt to get us to care about the characters...

The only characters who seemed to be slightly more developed in this movie were General Titus and Kora...

take Nemesis for instance...I doubt Nemesis spoke up to 5 lines in the entire movie...
Are we supposed to care about a character who doesn't even speak just because emotional music is played during her scenes and she wears a sad facial expression?

The same goes for several other characters in this movie...rather than spending time developing these characters, what we get is emotional or epic music during their scenes and good cinematographic shots...

In other words, my complaints regarding characters from the first movie still stands...

Second aspect is lore...
It feels like the lore in this world makes no sense but is merely there for stylistic purposes...

Take for instance the scene where the former king was killed...with the instrumentalists playing at the background...what were they there for?

Why would anyone stage an assassination with a whole band playing in the same room? It serves no purpose apart from style...


The same goes for the Scribes who came out to the battlefield during the negotiations even though they were easy targets there...
Why exactly were they there? So the scenery and costume looks good?

You don't need Scribes out in the middle of the battlefield recording events...when their books gets destroyed immediately...
It makes them just look stûpid...

And why is Kora called the Scargiver?
What exactly did she do to earn that nickname?
I kept asking myself if I missed something in the movie as to why she got that nickname because something like "princess Slayer" would be more fitting
Or "king Slayer" because she was falsely accused of killing the king


The plotline with the robot still feels like a useless addition...

The biggest improvement from the first movie was the action sequences for me...
There were still slow-motion sequences but at least, now the action scenes felt like they were better directed...

The Cinematographic shots of villagers harvesting grains was tiring to watch...
It felt like an elongated farming simulator without the story depth to go with it...

A group of old villagers who never used guns until 2 days before the invasion somehow being good at shooting is so unrealistic (since they spent 3 out of the 5 days harvesting grains)...

Characters fighting heroically in the front lines out in the open without cover while you could see shots flying everywhere around them looks only epic to an 8 years old...
But very dûmb to any adult watching the movie...

The second half of the movie at the end of the day is still an enjoyable watch especially since the second half is basically a long battle with millions of huge explosions...Synder style...

That's the peak and perfect character analysis and death of the character. She died happy.


Like I said.. go re watch or you have no idea what's going on in the movie at all..

Well, the build up was good, but the murderous intent at the end though wasnt really peak.

I liked the part about Bohemian Groove and what they might be doing there and what people 'do' to get to the very top in Hollywood.

Like only buying from stores that would play the DVD first so you could see the quality of the movies.
And buying only series that were compiled by R5 cos them R5 guys had a reputation for listing the exact no of episodes on the disc.

I knew she would die. I knew the boy would assist her in the fight, it wasn't unexpected. I also knew gunnar would die.

Chrck the fight scenes with all those laser guns and that clown was running around with a battle axe and didn't get hit. That other clown jumped into the river and came out near the tank completely dry, the old robot appeared at the right moment. Immediately that laser sword fell I knew it would kill that dude somehow. Everything was just glaring. No excitement.

The characters are all bland and forgettable ( in critical drinkers voice).

Lol. The movie had no exciting or unexpected moments. Anyway everyone cannot love or hate the same things
For me. 1/10. Zach screwed up releasing this shitfest.

All the same enjoy bro.

I used 2gb to download this movie thinking Rebel Moon couldn't get any worse, I was wrong. Worst movie and worst dialogue I have ever seen in a movie this year and it isn't even close. I couldn't even finish it😂😂😭. Someone should be looking over Zack Snyder's head when he's writing nonsense
