"Challengers" 2024

Hyper-Bait!.

The ménage à trois scene plastered everywhere when this film was announced, sold this film as some sort of hyper erotic fest flick, with lawn tennis as the side dish. I think that's what drove the popularity.

In reality, lawn tennis was infact, the main course , with the side dish being two guys who really loved themselves and a girl trying to separate them, with like one semi erotic scene in the entire thing. That was basically it, just so you know what you are getting into.

Absolutely great if you love tennis 🎾, seeing it for any other reason? Look elsewhere.

6/10

The movie aint worth 6..terrible tennis, the match at the end, the slow motion, the anti-tennis rules, just terrible abeg.

The slow motion were the worst. I think its very difficult to actual shoot sports movies asides basketball.

The worst I have seen is golf, twas release this year. The only sport movie I have seen that I enjoyed was a rowing movie last year, twas too good.

I can't see Zendeya as a mom, it just look ridiculous grin.
That teen/young girl vibe too full her body.

It's still worth a 6 though.

Prey 2022 is a solid 6/10 for me.

Another nice scify, alien thrilling movie.
A beautiful and yet an horror adventure about an alien predator that hunts humans for sports.

Nice fighting scenes especially from the girl's elder brother but my hero in the movie is the dog, he made quite an impression.

Nice seeing you watch more movies....
Somehow I don't remember a dog in that movie....👀👀 Person don dey forget things 😭.

Bros GILF gave the movie 6/10 because protagonist was a young women. If it had been one of the older shaman women and with a saggy booba scene Britannia would have given the movie 10/10 grin

On subject of Zendaya I really can't fathom the perceived hype around her cuz i honestly don't rate her. The only decent performance i have seen of her, is the one from Euphoria. She always seem to play this lethargic character that has zero dimension.

So what's the hype bro? Is it that there isn't enough actress around her age bracket with similar star power to rival her? It can't certainly be sex appeal. I always know what to expect with her acting and I don't think that's a good thing, or maybe i have not seen enough of her movies, is there a particular one i should see?

Lol, it's not a simple answer from me too. Same as you I still struggle at times to see the massive hype around her. I initially was indifferent to her and her acting at first with the Spidey films but her acting performance in EUPHORIA was more than enough to make me a fan cos that project is very dear to me and I have a soft spot for almost all the cast of that TV show and root for them. That's why I really like Sydney Sweeney who played "Cassie", and Jacob Elordi as "Nate". One of the best cast assembly I've seen in recent television, even impressive for a teenager or college themed show. So I love keeping tabs on most of them career journeys. There's the other one also seemingly doing well for themselves — Hunter Schafer. grin grin

I guess more of her hype come from her mostly Gen Z fandom. And you know that demography can be pretty loud and everywhere. Easiest answer as per as a Nigerian na "she just get grace". I also haven't even seen enough of her movies asides Spiderman and Dune. She's loveable I think and being the partner of Tom Holland is also a big flex.

The Planet of the Apes Trilogy
Rise of the Planet of the Apes:

The trilogy’s first film is its weakest, though that’s not a very bruising blow. Rise of the Planet of the Apes suffers from its status as a setup film (as well as the fact that, for much of its running time, the apes play second fiddle to their human masters).

James Franco is the audience hook, playing a scientist who cares for a young ape after its lab-experiment mother is killed. But over the course of the film, the ape (called “Caesar,” a name that will prove quite relevant with time) slowly grows into the film’s emotional center. As excellently played by Andy Serkis (with the help of some stunning CG motion-capture technology), Caesar is a genetically and intellectually-enhanced primate, and we grow to root for him as he attempts to help his fellow apes (cruelly imprisoned in a testing facility) while also stop them from becoming the savages they are viewed as.

It’s not until the third act that Rise develops any real kinetic action, but as we’ll come to see, action is not the central focus of this series. Director Rupert Wyatt, along with writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, use the trilogy’s first film to contrast the lofty position of humans with the lowly statuses of apes, and lets us wonder which species is more morally sound. It’s a question that will develop more deeply and effectively in the two sequels.
8/10

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes:
Perhaps the deepest film in the trilogy, Dawn works as both a compelling tale and a dark political allegory, filtered through a “survival of the fittest” message. With humanity’s population thinned by a worldwide virus, the apes seem likely to become the dominate species – but it’s not a role thy inherit by choice. The film contrasts the primates’ moral conflict through a leadership struggle between Caesar and Koba; the former believes in humanity’s right to survive, the latter (having been tortured in a lab for years) would happily see them all dead.

Two things of note stand out about Dawn. First is the quiet, atmospheric tone. Director Matt Reeves (a world away from Felicity) crafts a post-apocalyptic world that carefully sidesteps the all-too-common dystopian tropes. Here, humanity teeters on the edge of extinction, and their desperation is reflected in a world marked by ravage and ruin – yet still has unmistakable echoes of the world our characters inhabited in Rise.

The other noteworthy aspect is the portrayal of the human characters. Though they’re wisely given secondary focus to the apes (who get most of the meatier dramatic scenes), there’s enough material to display how fractured and desperate mankind has become at this harrowing stage, to the point that we wonder whether some of them are even worthy of survival. The parallels between people and apes are quite clear; by the end, we’re left wondering which group is truly more human.
9/10

War for the Planet of the Apes:
The third film of the series is the most epic in scope, yet also makes the most effective use of silence and little moments. Designed as a grand finale, War hits all the necessary beats to provide a satisfying finish. There’s terrific action, strong character development, emotional follow-up from the previous film, and an overall sense of finality to the story.

Despite the title, there’s very little war depicted onscreen here. Instead, the final film in the trilogy focuses on the cost of war – particularly how it takes its toll on Caesar. Now leading the apes in a conflict he never wanted, losing friends and family to the savagery of his opponents, Caesar begins to lose himself in anger and hatred. No longer is he the cute little ape we met back at the start of Rise; the losses he’s encumbered have turned him into a hardened warrior.

The body count in War is quite high, yet few of the deaths are without poignance or meaning. And that says a lot about how many three-dimensional characters the film crafts. Some heroes betray, while some villains repent – in such a battle-scarred world, the lines between good and evil have been weathered beyond recognition.

For all of its genetic bleakness, War sets aside a little space for humor (in the form of a “bad ape” played by Steve Zahn), and includes some references geared to satisfy fans of the original series (such as the introduction of a young Nova). But at its best, War for the Planet of the Apes succeeds as a battlefront drama, pushing its story and characters to the emotional limit, and making its central simians feel more human than ever.

It’s a grand finish to a remarkable trilogy. The original Planet of the Apes may go down in history as the definitive version of the story, but I do hope that over time, people continue to discover the newer series – and realize that remakes can still be done right.

Mr Harrigan’s Phone
Straight from the library of Stephen King comes this bone chilling drama. I wonder why it's classify as horror, to me it's mystery with no answers. An old man dies and he's buried with his phone. Next thing you know, somebody is taking vengeance on behalf of a teenage boy. I was hoping to know how the dead man was carrying out his vengeful tasks from the grave all to no avail. The movie just ended like that with the boy getting rid of his phone.

I have been watching some movies lately and personally i have discovered that some of these movies would had fair better when it comes to popularity and financial if they had been made a series.
On a personal note, the latest horror movie called "Abigail" would have been made a series and it's fortune and that of the little girl especially would have been mind blowing.

The movie has some great casting and the introduction of the dad, makes it something that needs to continue.

I realize he turned his daughter, so who turned him?
where is the mom?
Is it a family thing?
Are the federal government after them?

The project being made a movie was not the right business decision, maybe Perhabs financial budgeting was a factor but personally, that movie should have been made a series, it would have gathered world wide fan base for the series and particularly for the little girl and the other actress that was saved.

Anyways it's just my personal opinion.

Tom Holland that is even struggling to get roles now? I don't think that is even a flex, if for anything, she's the one contributing to Tom Holland's smallie star power.

I think Genz that knew her from her Disney days, forms the bulk of her fans now.

Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Saturnalia(m): 2:03am On May 21
I watched 2 movies a few days ago and they’re still fvcking with my mind.

1.) The Counselor - 2013

Penelope Cruz is a beautiful lady and I was surprised to know she’s married to Javier Bardem in real life.

The moment I saw “Javier Bardem” , (although I did not know his name at the time), I immediately knew he was the villain in “Skyfall - 2012 (one of my best James Bond movies ever)”.

I later discovered he was also the villain (Captain Salazar) in the “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales - 2017” and most surprisingly - Stilgar (that kept shouting Lisan Al-Gaib in Dune Part Two).

I give it to him, he’s a brilliant actor and It’s obvious why Penelope Cruz must have fallen in love with him & married him.

Now, back to this movie.

What I cannot understand is why this guy (Javier Bardem) would allow his wife (Penelope Cruz) to be finger-fvcked and given cunnilingus by Michael Fassbender in this movie.

Are these Oyinbo People outrageously crazy?

How can I allow my girlfriend, (not to talk of my wife), to be molested & ravaged in my presence, on the same movie set with me?

Nobody should tell me that was a body double.

Anyways, when I was growing up, I used to have this crazy fascination about “Power Bikes” especially in those days I would be traveling on Lagos - Ibadan Freeway and a dozen of them (Power Bikes) would zoom pass me, with their melodious exhaust notes.

I have always said to myself that one day, I MUST own a Power Bike (even though I have never ridden or know how to ride an Okada by myself).

Then about 15years ago, when I saw “Birdman” sat on that beautiful Harley Davidson Bike in his “Neck of The Woods” video; I renewed my vow to own atleast 2 Power Bikes. grin

But unfortunately, after I watched this movie (The Counselor - 2013), I have renounced all the vows to ever owning anything called Okada, let alone Power Bikes.

I have since deleted and formatted and purged my brain of all images & videos of Power Bikes in my life completely.

Well, you will not understand until you watch this movie.

Ridley Scott is a genius and a mad movie director for coming up with a movie like this.

THIS MOVIE SWEET DIE!

You can imagine, I was Googling about the “Bolito Assassination Device” that killed Brad Pitt, if it exists or not. Me wey I no be Cocaine pusher; wetin concern me with any Bolito? grin

At the same time, one has to be prepared in case of necessity.

What else ? Cameron Diaz fvcking that Ferrari California? Or that she was the architect of the tragedy that befell the 3 partners?

Mehn! This movie is creepy as fvck but it makes sense and I did enjoy it.

2.) Jupiter Ascending - 2015

Goddamnit it! The Wachowskis are good. But expending such a huge amount of money in making this movie while underperforming at the box office is not encouraging at all.

@Ourtruth247, sorry I had to tag you in this post, but I think you should watch this movie.

Remember what you said about “Hiding The Truth in Plain Sight” ?

There are lots of encrypted messages in this movie that hinted about how our Planet was seeded and still being controlled by the “Entitled Species”.

This statement below made by “Kalique Abrasax” triggered an alarm bell that kept on ringing in my belly - till I finished watching the movie.

It was just if a vortex opened up in my mind.

”In your world, people are used to fighting for resources, like Oil, or Minerals, or Land.

But when you have access to the vastness of space, you will realize there’s only one resource worth fighting over, even killing for, - More Time.

Time is the single most precious commodity in the Universe.”

In all, Mila Kunis & Channing Tatum did a good job and the movie is entertaining.

But behind all the facades, I do strongly believe that there are reptilian entities living among us, and truly - the Earth is a Farm.

Enjoy!
