HitlerWasRight:You have been doing that since 1950s The only advantage Africa has is cheap labor, cheap power and proximity to Europe and America Allow import of raw materials, use your labor to turn them to finished goods export and grow rich na Whites force u to focus on resource extraction and production of raw materials... So you hike tarrifs for raw materials... Making you not able. To compete with whites 1 Like |

MEEVEET: No single nation ever got industrialised without producing steel. You are obviously either too stupid to not understand that keeping the steel mills rolling will be more beneficial to Nigeria than importing steel from China. The ore is in Ajaokuta. It will be powered by cheap gas from the Niger Delta. Do you know how much it will cost transporting steel from China to Nigeria ? Have you factored the job losses and oppurtunities to create more jobs locally ? Your Messiah was an importer so I guess you follow the same theory of dumping goods in Nigeria When you get your Biafra you can import even bottled and pure water sef. 1 Like |

iwaeda: The politics in Nigeria is dirtier than pigsty. Ajaokuta that has never rolled out steel getting all the attention while DSC that has produced for years has been left to rot. Govt keep selling DSC to highest bidders. They left DSC in ruins. Imagine paying ajaokuta pension that has not produced steel once while allowing DSC pensioners who have worked for years to die of hunger. Our leaders are cursed. |

Mrexcell: It's a complicated story. But the summary of it is that the contractors could not complete it because of issues relating to supply. It was completed to as close as 96%. The kind of blast furnace they built would not work well and possibly get damaged if there's no constant supply of plenty ore. Eventually when the Russian contractors saw that the ore was not going to be ready, they had to suspend the project pending completion of the railways and the ore was ready. Not just that, there would have to be no break within the system for the furnace to safely turn on. Probably the contract ran out and they stopped maintaining the existing system, packed up and left. The cost of maintaining the facility will be high and for a facility not producing anything yet, it was left without proper maintenance. Eventually the plant started to fall apart and the Russian company had already folded up. Ore was not yet enough and the railway was incomplete. In fact, till today, a railway bridge over the River Niger is still lying there, abandoned. Personally I feel the Government of then were too ambitious with the project and could have built a much smaller project where the ore could easily be sent by road and production level would already match what is needed. The scale of the project was just too big to be successful in an epileptic country like Nigeria. 2 Likes |

It’s has always been working but they don’t melt steel there. The LSM doesn’t have melting capabilities. They just import billets and roll them down to rods and sections. Splashme: |
