Underrated write-up. Rural areas are now becoming expensive to live in because of the manace called "yahoo boys". Their lifestyle has influenced our ladies to be self taught "pablets" as it's now the dream of these young girls to date a yahoo boy and use an iPhone with a pro max at the end of the pronoun of the phone. These guys are a serious menace to morality - they turned alot of our girls to Oloshos, enticed landlords to increase rents astronomically, cajoled our youths into laziness and seeking quick fraudulent wealth, finished weak parents and elders into supporting fraud by turning blind eyes to their activities, and became the worst role models for young chaps who now see school and hard work as punishment since they can still hammer using fraud while living soft lives

Yahoo boys have kept many highbrow businesses growing in Nigeria and those businesses pay taxes to the government. Yahoo-Yahoo is the reason why we don't have violent crimes in Southern Nigeria like the Northern Nigeria.

Yes, yahoo has its negative impact, but I cannot be quick to criticise them because they live in a country where their leaders have failed them. It takes a lot of discipline and rectitude to live in Nigeria and not get involved in crime.

what are the violent crimes in the north that are not in southern nigeria?

I just laugh when Nigerians economist are trying to project the economy usingt demand and supply chain, even when factors doesn't correlate, the boys made pricing unrealistic
They don't care to buy anything anyhow at any price because they never worked for their money

Many things are economically unrealistic here considering the minimum wage and prices of things

I think you people are forgetting the fact that Nigeria currently has an annual inflation rate of over 28%. Please do keep in mind that it's the "official" rate and real-life inflation is way more than that. While I can't speak to the truthfulness of the op's claim, you have to keep in mind that living costs have gone up astronomically and even property owners will not be left behind in price increases.
Someone mentioned polo of 5k now going for 20k, when last did you check the exchange rate? Almost every piece of clothing is imported.
Between Tinubu's inauguration last year and now the exchange rate has all but doubled.
The former neighborhood I stayed are very picky about renting to young guys with questionable income. But rents have kept going up and most of the people living there are family people.

I’m not even profiling but Yahoo boys are one of the major reasons we have rent hike in Ikorodu and other extreme neighborhoods in Lagos like Bogije, Lakowe, Mowe (A bit into Ogun).

These guys can afford Lekki, Yaba and Surulere but they will never stay there because oka ma fo. They need hiding places. Most of the people living in Yaba are working class rich boys who wants to be close to their workplaces. Yahoo boys don’t need proximity to the CBD, they just want somewhere conducive, far from ojutaye, where they can on gen 24/7 while riding Benz.

Guess who is suffering from their decisions? The low income earner who chose to live in Ikorodu where he can pay small rent. He can’t anymore because these boys have brought money into the hood. O ma nka mi lara 😡

While I agree it's general expansion any body doing internet business legit or not who does not need to leave home every day is now looking to go to inner mainland even Ayobo they full here legit and non legit. For instance it's far easier to get starkink to work in these places than island. Also place like Ayobo have electric Averagely, for now like 18hrs per day. these guys can subsidize with a good solar system. The houses are much bigger here, for same price as island. They do still go clubbing at island sha. Omo poor man is being pushed further into interiors Nigeria needs to expand. We need a new city if things continue like this Lagos will be for the rich. My rent practically doubled. if I go to Ogun state place like itele, Cele men transport will be dam high. their road is really damn bad. if it rains heavily no one can pass through it. you must wait for the water to drain before you can pass through. People have been trapped during evening heavy rain. They must wait till around 3am to pass through

Not only the areas listed, other extreme ends of Lagos. e. g Ojo downwards are affected especially where theres constant light.

Good thing some landlords specifically tell agents not to rent their houses to them. You live as neighbour's with them one day they might land you in trouble with Nigerian police.

Other landlords don't care, na the highest bidder they want.
