Chioma Okoli was arraigned on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at the Federal High Court in Abuja before Hon. Justice Peter Lifu.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered Chioma Okoli to be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre over the review of Tomato products made by Erisco Foods Limited on Facebook.

Chioma Okoli was arraigned on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at the Federal High Court in Abuja before Hon. Justice Peter Lifu.

Okoli pleaded not guilty to the two counts of conspiracy and cyberstalking levelled against her.
She was remanded in Suleja Correctional Centre till Friday 31st May, 2024 for ruling on her bail application.

Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, along with S. M Oyeghe appeared for Chioma while Abdulrashid Isyaku-Sidi appeared for the Inspector General of Police.

Okoli’s lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, told the court that his client suffered miscarriage in the course of the case and eventually lost her baby.
Recall that the CEO of Erisco Foods, Eric Omeofia, had alleged in 2023 that a negative product review by a customer, Chioma Egodi, negatively impacted his business when she claimed that the Nagiko Tomota Mix she bought had too much sugar.

Okoli was eventually arrested by the police in September 2023 with her lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, raising alarm that the fundamental right of his client was being breached by the police and Omeofia.

Okoli is standing bordering on conspiracy and cyberstalking leveled against her.

The counts read, “That you Chioma Edoka Okoli also known as Chioma Egodi Jnr, Happiness Obas now at large And Don Kashking now at large ‘m’ of on or about sometime in the month of September 2023 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, conspired among yourself and intentionally sent a message by means of computer and social media network such as Facebook, by using your Facebook handle by name Chioma Egodi Jnr, with the intention of instigating people against Erisco Foods Limited, knowing the said information to be false and with intent to cause annoyance, inconvenience, danger, obstruction, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, ill will, or needless anxiety to Erisco Foods Limited, the management, and members of the family, thereby committed an offense contrary and punishable under Section 27 (1) (B) Cyber Crime Prohibition Act.

O pari.

This erisco tomato paste matter should not have escalated to this extent in my opinion. The extent it has gone now is not helpful for an amicable resolution at all.

This is a lesson to everyone to be careful about the advice people give to you, especially if it's a legal opinion.

If you post a comment or say something the other party consider as offensive to his or her brand ,if your comment is a well-intentioned advice but ,unfortunately, taken wrongly, please just delete the comment(s), apologize to the one who took your feedback in a wrong way and move on with your life. If you're right, you will eventually be justified by posterity and one day the person who feels wronged today will credit you as the one who gave a truly sincere feedback yet you apologized for peace to reign. You become the bigger and more matured party eventually.

I will encourage her husband, family and lawyer to help her out of the current predicament. Let all the parties please explore amicable resolution options if it's not too late yet. It's good that she's being given the opportunity to defend herself so that justice can prevail.

May God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs!

The dangers of unguided comments.
The dangers of careless comments.
The dangers of comments without common sense.
The dangers of unverified comments.

I once watched an interview on Arise news where the CEO of Erisco said he doesn't mind closing down his business just to get justice and teach this Chioma a lesson.
Mind the type of people you offend and apologize when there is still time for reconciliation

There are Channels of Complaints, She should have reported the company to Nafdac and Consumer protection commission to carry out their work and ascertain her allegation. On the other hand Erisco should know that a product is subject to bad or good review.

Don't go looking for trouble. The man has said he would rather die than not get justice.

I read her Facebook post where she was daring the company to go to court. Out of ignorance, she felt it was easy to take on a corporate organization anywhere in the world.

I think she has learnt her lessons. Erisco should withdraw the lawsuit.

Those were are biggest problem. The woke generation kept telling her to fight on.

verifiablefacts:
No be to write Nafdac she for do? Or consumer protection agency, she come dey spoil person market.
Nafdac actually verified and said there was nothing wrong with the product.

Villagesquare:
There are Channels of Complaints, She should have reported the company to Nafdac and Consumer protection commission to carry out their work and ascertain her allegation. On the other hand Erisco should know that a product is subject to bad or good review.
She gave a fake review which is different from good or bad reviews. Even Amazon and many other businesses warn customers against giving fake reviews as there could be legal consequences. People have gone to jail in Italy, UK and many places for false/fake reviews.

I feel at this point, the girl's family better go the Nigerian way to beg the company to drop it's law suit.
