Where I live, ppl gossip and talk bad about me in my absence. I ignore it. Where I work I have experienced backbiting and pulling down lots of times but I ignore and focus on my dream and vision.

You can't expect love and elation from serving the public all the time. You should learn to take the good and bad views.

I tried reading Chioma comments, it wasn't a crime, she used and the product and gave her opinion, it's basic reaction! I don't know how going after her correct anything cos presently I can't even bring myself to buy that product after reading she lost her baby cos my wife had passed through such.

As for me, I don't think this is right in any way

More boycott to this company product 💯: angry

Lies. We won't boycott anything. We are not stupid. Simply because you have a right to review does not mean you should give false information and bring down a local product and hardworking Nigerian who has given employment to many Nigerians. Do u think it is easy to be a manufacturer and an employer of labour in Nigeria? We shall patronise him. You want to destroy a man's business and you think we will join you to do that? She had opportunity to apologize but she chose to be stubborn.

There are Channels of Complaints, She should have reported the company to Nafdac and Consumer protection commission to carry out their work and ascertain her allegation. On the other hand Erisco should know that a product is subject to bad or good review.

What she did was not review in an way. The woman was mischievous and deserved to be jailed. I stand with erisco.

Some of you forming one stüpïd woke here don’t even own a shop worth just 50k not to talk of millions of naira, I support the Erisco owner in every way, the girl should rot in jail and should be made a scape goat. You think you can ruin someone’s sweat of years in just a day? The way some folks reason on Nairaland get as e be, most of you don’t even know there is a big difference between bad review and fake review. She should be held responsible for everything she said, most of especially the part where she said the product dey kill. The fact that the erisco owner is even a fellow Igbo alone is enough for her to retract her statements, yet, she went ahead, una don push am enter hot soup now, make she rot in jail. Something little apology for don stop, she Dey for woke, she go wake for prison 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

What most people are implying here is, when a product is bad, don't say anything.....
Erisco food should have warned her and if she still went on to defame without evidence then should be arrested
she said the product is killing people, how many people have died before she jumped on board with her review?what she did was defamation and there are consequences for that.

It's either nairaland is filled with kids or the mentality here is awkward. Like wtf with the reasoning, false, fake review conversation, people here don't know the difference and using them to justify oppressions.

Nigeria deserve her leaders, there's oppressive spirit in all Nigerians, some even promise to kill the lady, " she should die in jail", bla bla bla.

In this kind of mess, there is always no Victor or Vanquished, Erisco has changed name, trying to rebrand and he's most likely not going to be flying g to most countries ever, Chioma has lost her pregnancy, she's in a difficult place right name, the police have tainted her already down trodden reputation even in global space. Global watchers of justice will downgrade the Nigerian Judicial system more. Nobody wins here! But Erisco and Chioma looses and then we as a people loose too, our reputation is smeared globally.

If you read the review on Facebook, it was more than personal. She was a Facebook influencer with thousands of followers. She deliberately spread false information about the product to her followers. Some of her followers were even cautioning her and she said those followers should go and tell erisco to take her to court..

Reading the review, It felt like she was paid to deliberately demarket the product. She was even saying the product was killing people and whoever knows erisco should tell him to stop killing people with his tomatoes paste.

It was that bad. I feel sorry for her Sha. She learnt a bitter lesson already.
If what you said here are true that she is an online influencer, and she said the product can kill.
I will love to render my personal apology to Erisco food, I am sorry for supporting her action.
Even though she might be right with her review and her intention is pure, she ought be careful with her choice of words.

If you say "nairaland is a useless cesspit of vipers and demons"
......that's a soft allegation which you could be true.

But if you then add... "those vipers and demons post messages that makes people commit sweetcide"
.......It becomes a strong allegation which Nairaland can sue you for to defend.

Chioma made her point, but the part she added "it's killing people" was where she got it wrong.

You can make reviews which can be good or bad, but don't make false/defamatory reviews. There's a fine-line difference between a bad review and a defamatory review.

Chioma's review turned from bad review (...it's too sugary) to defamatory review (...it's killing people).

Uhuhn. Good attempt. I understand what you're trying to say, however:

Saying vipers and demons is a figure of speech meant to convey a different meaning within a certain context. You didn't actually start looking for vipers or demons.
It's killing people obviously has to be interpreted within proper context. Was she talking about people dying or was it a figure of speech meant to convey a different meaning.

Who was she talking to, and what led to what? Proving defamation is so incredibly difficult even when the intent is clear, much less here when you have to dig into the comment section to find one line that's paraded without proper context.

Again, who here doesn't do hyperbole when the conversation gets heated. Should you go to jail everytime that happens.

If you're an incredible jerk who thinks this is worth ruining someone's life over, it's very well within your right to try, but you'll be pushing that boulder up a very steep hill. In s normal trial, the lady will win and even have him pay for harassing her. How do you arrest someone on a civil accusation? No conviction and you have the civil liberty violated.

Summary: any which way you twist this, the man is a toxic stew of hatred and abuse. The lady should maybe be a bit mindful of comments but no more than the rest of us.

There was no weighty conditions. She was asked to delete the comments and tender apology through same Facebook and her lawyer deceived her that she has a case of fundamental rights abuse and she reneged from the agreement that's what led the Erisco owner to approach court.

They arrested her without justification and flee her to Abuja. Yet you want her to apologise and delete.

People, you have rights. Stop defending the pipu telling you that you don't. This is no different from the cases of people talking trash about the president and getting kidnapped by sss the next day.
If someone offends you, approach your lawyer. They'll serve them papers, you'll both have your days in court. Lobatan!

Haba! Stop defending de facto kidnappings in the name of hurt feelings.

Recall that the CEO of Erisco Foods, Eric Omeofia, had alleged in 2023 that a negative product review by a customer, Chioma Egodi, negatively impacted his business when she claimed that the Nagiko Tomato Mix she bought had too much sugar.

Okoli’s lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, told the court that his client suffered miscarriage in the course of the case and eventually lost her baby.

Okoli is standing bordering on conspiracy and cyberstalking leveled against her.

O pari.

This erisco tomato paste matter should not have escalated to this extent in my opinion. The extent it has gone now is not helpful for an amicable resolution at all.

This is a lesson to everyone to be careful about the advice people give to you, especially if it's a legal opinion.

If you post a comment or say something the other party consider as offensive to his or her brand ,if your comment is a well-intentioned advice but ,unfortunately, taken wrongly, please just delete the comment(s), apologize to the one who took your feedback in a wrong way and move on with your life. If you're right, you will eventually be justified by posterity and one day the person who feels wronged today will credit you as the one who gave a truly sincere feedback yet you apologized for peace to reign. You become the bigger and more matured party eventually.

I will encourage her husband, family and lawyer to help her out of the current predicament. Let all the parties please explore amicable resolution options if it's not too late yet. It's good that she's being given the opportunity to defend herself so that justice can prevail.
