Jamesclooney: There is something you forgot to consider. Unlike for undergrad studies, the 28- day PoF rule applies for masters studies differently. Even if the university agrees on a £20 per month instalments, the UKVI requires an applicant to show evidence that they have 100% of the complete fees. For good measure, the UKVI insists that any PoF an applicant shows MUST be money that is available to the applicant for use whilst in the UK. The problem is, an applicant shows this evidence. The money is there. In the bank. Visa is granted (based on the trust as per the PoF evidence). Then suddenly, the same student who showed ‘korokoro’ evidence now complains that forex fluctuations made them unable to pay fees? E get K-leg. By the way, if the UK is serious about this, they can very easily implement the Belgium, Germany etc model of ‘Blocked accounts’ 1 Like |

babajeje123: That's a shame especially as he paid the outstanding fees. |

Bukad: Yes they can still qualify for the new entrant route if they graduated in the last 4 years. Note that the new entrant visa is for a maximum of 4 years from the point of graduation, so the visa will only be allocated for the period left of the 4 years if that makes sense. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Zahra29: Makes a lot of sense. Thanks for this. So for example, the person graduated from MSc say September 2023, even if on H and C visa before graduation, they can only use the new entrant route for any other skilled worker visa till September 2027. But what happens after 2027, would they have to leave the job and look for another with 38k pay or be paid the going rate? |
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Zahra29: 11:31pm On May 29 |
kwakudtraveller: We don't always agree 🙈 but I'm 💯 on this post. The reality is that the more articles there are of this nature, it desensitizes the issue and creates a false economy image of Nigerian students which will ultimately lead to more universities adopting stricter rules to ensure they get their money. UK universities might begin to consider the overall benefit of courting certain international students if they then have to unenroll a significant proportion of them or they have to set up long winded payment plans or incur additional costs on admin/ agencies to chase collection of fees . 1 Like |

Bukad: You're very welcome. Correct, so after 2027 the idea is that they are no longer a new entrant and would be expected to have sufficient experience to qualify for the standard going rate or 38,700 salary (whichever is higher) for a skilled worker visa. Alternatively they have the option to switch back to a health and care visa. 1 Like |

Zahra29: So if they have dependents what happens to them after 2027 assuming they can't secure role of 38k 🤔 |
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Zahra29: 11:44pm On May 29 |
ReesheesuKnack: They should have done this a long time ago tbh, but implementing it now would be akin to locking the stable door after the horses have bolted. Their focus now is not to further discourage international students with stricter laws so it will be left to universities to decide their risk appetite and fee strategy. Some might tailor their approach based on nationality and risk of default and require students from those countries to pay a greater proportion of their fees upfront. |
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Zahra29: 11:49pm On May 29 |
Bukad: It's a calculated risk decision they have to make. If the current care dependant restrictions are still in force in 2027, then they would need to find a care/support worker role in the NHS or similar that allows dependants. 2 Likes |

@missjekyll, signs that this Labour party is not as pro-immigration as you might think: Labour's health secretary wants to ban the NHS from recruiting from red list countries such as Nigeria and Zim - calls it immoral as these countries are dealing with increasing shortages of health care workers. https://www.yahoo.com/news/wes-streeting-labour-ban-nhs-161432247.html Streeting also said that Labour has no plans to reverse the dependant ban and that their focus is on recruiting and training workers in the UK https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/article/2024/may/29/labour-has-no-plans-to-allow-health-worker-visas-to-include-family-members 2 Likes 1 Share |

@Zahra29, na so the UK system weak so? See where our taxes and IHS going for God's sake. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13470893/Bulgaria-fraud-Britain-benefits-scam-detective-exposed-gang.html |
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Zahra29: 4:57pm On May 30 |
babajeje123: Lol no system is completely foolproof and the fraudsters did run quite a sophisticated operation with a team spanning across the UK and Bulgaria. Nevertheless the good news is they were eventually caught and have been sentenced (and most likely deported afterwards), and the government is making attempts to recover all the looted funds , even the assets in Bulgaria. Going forward there will be added scrutiny on applications from Bulgaria, Poland and the like to prevent such fraud from happening again. 1 Like |

Random post: Sunak recently announced that he would seek to close down low quality university courses in favour of funding more apprenticeships. He also also stated that a university education is not essential to be successful. Some people have interpreted this that Brits do not value higher education and the UK will soon "go down" as a result 🙄 However there are many vital vocations that do/did not require a university degree and are better obtained via apprenticeships - such as nursing, engineering, plumbing, construction and even data analysis. Some people spend tens of thousands to acquire a paper certificate that adds no real value (other than being able to say you have a degree), while some choose to earn while they learn and come out with lower debt, valuable work experience and sought after skills that the country needs. And did you know that 9 British prime ministers never went to university, including John Major who is still highly respected today and the famous war time PM Winston Churchill. 4 Likes |
