The South East Governors' Forum has decried Thursday morning's incident, which led to murder of two soldiers at a checkpoint in Aba, Abia State.

According to the Nigerian News Agency, the incident at Obikabia Crossroads in Aba was carried out by suspected members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra in order to enforce the sit-at-home policy.

They also burnt down security patrol vehicles while enforcing the sit-at-home directive meant to commemorate Biafra Day.

Addressing newsmen in Owerri, Imo State capital, on Thursday, Chairman of the Forum, and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, described the attack as “unfortunate”.

“On behalf of my brother governors in the South East Governors’ Forum, I condemn that incident and loss of the lives of soldiers who were on their duty posts.

“Without any provocation, they were attacked by the men of the underworld.

“The unfortunate thing is that it is going to act as a major set back to the peace process being pursued by the governors from the zone with the Federal Government, security agencies and other critical stakeholders on how best to resolve the problem of security in the region,”
he said.

According to him, the incident will also portray the people in a bad light, as if they do not have sympathy for human beings.

The governor condoled the Chief of Army Staff and the families of soldiers who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident.

“We here in the South East will ensure that we leave no stone unturned to ensure peace needed for development in the region,” he added.

Uzodimma urged security agencies to go all out to ensure that those behind the dastardly act were caught and prosecuted.

He noted that people of the South East, out of fear of the unknown and memories of the past, obeyed the directive of the proscribed group.

He urged them, particularly those in Imo, to find courage and understand that a lot had gone to providing security for them.

“We have peace in Imo; I want people to go about their businesses without fear of being molested by anyone.

“We are after the perpetrators. Those who think we shouldn’t live should not live,”
he emphasised.

Shame on them.

Where were they when the illiterate kids were forcing the sit at home?

Should honoring the dead also be costing more lives?

Hmmm

The funny thing about it all was that there are videos showing residents of Aba were walking past the gunmen, even hailing them

But no Aba resident will ever walk past the Nigerian Army, nor hail them

Aba people were more scared of the Nigerian Army than they were of the gunmen

An intelligent person would ask why, but many Nigerians are not that intelligent

South East governors caused this killing

If they had simply declared may 30th Biafra remembrance Day and made it a public holiday weekend wont be here

When Fulanis ravaged South East they were begged to form a security outfit they refused
Till Esn was formed

Igbos would never forget the name Biafra

Igbos would never forget the Biafra war

Igbos would never stop using the Biafran flag

Igbos would never forget may 30th

It would never happen

The best things for this governors is to adopt this things and formalized them ... Simple to save lifes

Ipob killed two Army in south east yesterday according to news we all heard, some miscreants were happy about it, no hard feelings here I understood it's their happy hour 🤝🤝🤝

But my only worry is when the Army retaliate this same set of people will be calling on U.N, NATO, ECOWAS, A.U, O.P.C, NASA, H.I.V

I didn't not support violence, in brotherhood we stand

But still no peace for the wicked ⚠️⚠️

Biafra heroes deserves to be honored on the 30th. The FG should stop harassing the people of the Biafra land. Only one day of honor to our fallen heroes will never make inflation, unemployment, food insecurity to reduce

I condemn the killing of soldiers by unknown gunmen.

The army should also advise themselves. Why so much exuberance to go to the East?

On this thread now , you are praising the UGM activities, you see nothing wrong about them killing our army. Don't come on another thread to tell us the UGM are sponsor by the government to destabilize SE.

Don't shout victimization by the time the army would pay the areas some surprised visit

I will save screenshot of this your comments, it should be useful for our security operatives
