BIDEN SPEECH ANALYSIS: Biden is taking the position of Hamas, which is, let's stop the war and THEN negotiate for everything else. Israel, on the other hand, is refusing to negotiate DURING a ceasefire. For the most part, I donāt think this speech changes much. This plan is the same as the 3 phases that were offered multiple times in the past. This ānew proposalā that Biden discusses is not grounded in reality but reflects the Biden admin's hopes and wishes. It fundamentally clashes with the actual situation on the ground. Biden is calling for a āpermanent cessation of hostilitiesā Even before Hamasās downfall, and is effectively guaranteeing that they shall never be removed from power. Thereās absolutely no way in hell that ISRAEL made this proposal - despite his assertions to the contrary. A key point that Biden is stressing is that the temporary ceasefire will not end for as long as negotiations continue ā without any deadline, thereby making it a permanent ceasefire. Needless to say ISRAELIS see Biden's proposal for ending the Gaza war as problematic. The Biden admin keeps saying Hamas cannot rule Gaza the day after the war, but the president's plan will leave Hamas breathing, armed and in effective control of Gaza. Biden's speech was not intended to return hostages or advance a deal. It was designed to overthrow the right-wing government in time, before the US elections. In the eyes of the Biden administration, Netanyahu is the big problem, and Hamas is the small problem. Hamas can be left, but Netanyahu must be removed. Who else thinks so? Our press, and the small group of Israeli protesters . They are also willing to leave Hamas, if it helps to oust Netanyahu. What Biden did in his speech now is based on the Israeli protesters view that a way has been found to do it: to put surrender on the table through a hostage deal. If Netanyahu agrees to surrender, he will fall. If - as expected - he refuses, this will paint him as someone who is thwarting the return of the abductees, and continues the war for "personal motives". The strategy is shared, perhaps even coordinated. But the goals beyond overthrowing Netanyahu are different: Americans don't care about the strategic disaster that will befall us if we lose the war. They want to finish it, or have a left-wing government finish it, in order to save the elections in November. Whereas the ISRAELI protesters and our press do not understand the magnitude of the disaster because they have accustomed themselves to the idea that there is one name for all the problems in the world: Netanyahu. And if we just move Netanyahu, then we can solve all the other problems (deal with Hamas another time, return to the Oslo outline, establish a Sunni-Israeli coalition against Iran, and other fantasies).
