Breaking: FG, Labour to meet tomorrow over strike, minimum wage

By Victor AhiumaYoung

The Federal Government has, through the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, NSIWC, summoned a meeting of the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage for tomorrow, June 4.

The last meeting of the committee ended abruptly on May 31. This was after the Organised Labour negotiating team walked out following the government and organised private sector, OPS’s refusal to go beyond the N60,000 they had earlier offered.

Vanguard gathered that tomorrow’s meeting will be by 10 am.

According to sources, the government is alarmed by the level of compliance and participation by workers in the first day of the indefinite nationwide strike.

Compliance

Meanwhile, the unions shut down the country’s electricity industry in compliance with the strike order.

Acting General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, Dominic Igwebike, told Vanguard that the power sector had been shut down.

Also, all loading activities at fuel depots in Lagos have been halted by the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG.

However, Vanguard was informed that all loaded trucks were allowed to leave the depots, including aviation terminals, for safety purposes.

According to a labour leader, “We don’t want to keep a loaded truck within the depot because it is highly flammable.”

Similarly, the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, MWUN, has shut down port operations across the country.

An official of the Union told Vanguard that besides Lagos ports, all other port formations in Port Harcourt, Warri, Onne, Calabar, and others have been closed.

According to the official, they would remain shut until further notice from the national leadership of organised labour.

The same scenario is playing out in other sectors across the country, including the FCT.

The FG should make a law that any Labour person that try to shut down the national grid henceforth must spend a decade in jail with no option of fine.

After Ajero would go home smiling, Governments officials would go home smiling.

Nigerian would count their sacrifice to Governments' poor handling of the negotiations.

Seeing that Nigerians surprisingly united in this strike, some miscreants are trying to use electricity, national grid, and Muslim I'd El Kabir to divide the people. LMAO

A meeting where Tinubu will mesmerize them with another lie.
Tinubu doesn't like to hear truth.
Weeks ago in a meeting his attention was drawn to the super inflation in the country and in his usual lying manner he told them "don't worry about inflation, we will bring it down" SIMPS took him serious and I said this man will only cajole you to dance his tune, he won't do nothing, now everything is playing out.

I expect labour to rather fight for fg intervention in normalizing cost of living

If they want to redeem their already damaged image of dancing to the tune of the government, they should never call off this strike until a reasonable minimum wage has been agreed and subsequently signed into law, all within this week. It is possible.

We saw what they did with the national anthem.

A government that always shoots itself in the foot. Not forward thinkers.

Rubbish

To increase subsidy, u don't stress urself. U just announced during speech on ur swearing in as a president. U increased price of everything without stress and masses trying to cope. National assembly, and VP got billions of naira to renovate and buy cars, without stress. Ur and ur VP spent 8.6billions within just few months for traveling, no stress. Now, to increase minimum wages, u now turned their representatives to errands boys and girls with different meetings upon meetings and offering them just 60k. What for? They broke down how they came up with the 615k, then u also should break down how u reached the 60k and let everyone hear.

Dumbest Labour Union ever, FG is not the problem, can states and private sector afford to pay unreasonable demands?, otherwise, the minimum wage will end up on paper just like the 30k.

Trash talk.

The FG should make a law that only credible citizens with no criminal records, and a minimum of BSc are eligible to be presidential candidate to rule the Nigeria. That way disasters like Buhari and Tinubu won't have happened to Nigerians.
