afrodoc2: The bold has always been my grouse and thatās why I donāt look at people always defending/making excuses for politicians online with good eyes at all. Ur tax gets deducted at source (an amount u donāt naturally feel like paying sef in the first place ) , then u start hearing of how a politician embezzled billions of public funds , how a regular Joe suddenly became a billionaire spending less than 4 years in politics , etc. These things irks me so much . U pay taxes and u still have to drive on terrible roads because somebody has embezzled the funds for the roads construction or the politicians have spent it on frivolous things. Then u have people fighting tooth and nail to defend such people . All these minimum wage discussion is even centered around money that can at least feed the workers . Nobody has talked about affordable healthcare now; it appears everybody don agree to go back to herbs cos with the exit of pharmaceutical companies drugs are freaking expensive now . 14 Likes 1 Share |

sod09: While I would have preferred they remain on strike while they continue negotiations, even if they call it off, it's a win. The government has committed to going above 60k which they weren't willing to do before. They also have one week to come up with a reasonable offer or strike returns. |

OasisX, abeg what do you mean by the Labour should pressure the FG to tackle inflation? |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 6:32am On Jun 04 |
raumdeuter: Exactly. The moment subsidy went off, these negotiations should been going on. E get as dem for handle this matter, Lavour sef for don accept the 60k. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 6:33am On Jun 04 |
Itsrm: One of the issues we have as citizens and which is part of why we are where we are today in Nigeria is the fact that we always channel our anger towards the wrong set of people . The government has had one full year to keep its house in order and come up with something reasonable as new minimum wage; that was not done. The government removed subsidy which led to general rise in the price of goods & services ; the government claimed it has saved trillions over the past one year since the removal of subsidy . Oya let the government show workings on how hardship the people faced due to its policies can be cushioned e turn stories . The labour union said enough is enough and decided press the government for neck and suddenly u see people getting angry with the labour . Suddenly everybody is unaware that people die daily from power failure in govt hospitals . When people say āone day Nigerians will wake upā , ā The Arab spring might be a childās play to what will happen in Nigeria if our government are not careful ā , etc. I always tell myself it may likely not happen in our lifetime. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

In a press briefing addressing the potential impact of Silicon Valley Bankās failure on Nigerian businesses, Emefiele asserted that bank depositors are the ultimate owners of banks since they have more to lose than shareholders. He emphasized, āI would rather dispose of shareholders than make depositors lose money,ā a policy he maintained throughout his tenure. Hmmmm. Well, thereās wisdom in what Emefiele was doing which is summarized above , but it imposed serious moral hazard . It allowed major shareholders who ran the banks to the ground to escape . Thereās also sense in this Cardosoās approach of not rescuing the banks but something must give. I think they need to revisit and review the amount of depositors fund that are insured with NDIC . That current N500k is too small. If CBN under Cardoso has chosen to allow market forces prevail , then they should review the amount of depositors fund that can be recoverable in the event a bank fails . Itsrm: |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Itsrm(m): 7:58am On Jun 04 |
BlueRayDick: So now it's obvious the problem was not because heritage bank cannot be salvaged, Cardoso is just taking a different approach. And I absolutely agree with you, 500k can no longer cut it. Maybe they'll increase it post recapitalisation. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 7:58am On Jun 04 |
sod09: That will only lead to another round of strike which is not in the FGās favor . They wonāt be fooolish enough to go that route all over again. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 8:07am On Jun 04 |
Itsrm: This new approach sef now imposes a duty on u as a depositor to be interested in the financial position of the financial institution u bank with. You need to start getting interested in how financially healthy ur bank is so u donāt just wake one day and hear the CBN has revoked their license with ur funds trapped pending when the winding down process is concluded . Imagine if someone has like N2m in his heritage bank account which was saved there so he can use to fund a surgery in this month of June ; what will the plight of that person now ? |

The No 1 problem of this administration is the know-it-all attitude this has lead to unforced errors and costly mistakes that were avoidable had the key members of the administration consult far and wide before taken some of the hasty decisions they made. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

Spy360: They are just detached from reality ni, nothing more. Look at it this way; The university u attended, a lot of things would've changed over there now. Yes, u attended the school, u know the lecturers, u know the culture of the students and lecturers alike; yet somehow u can't claim to have a full grasp of what is happening there currently. Even if u have ur younger ones currently attending the same university, some of their current experiences if they share it with u somehow u will find it hard to relate because definitely what they are narrating is kinda slightly different from what u experienced during ur time. 1 Like 1 Share |

Only those with deposit above N5m that will be counting their losses now. āThe NDIC has commenced the liquidation of Heritage Bank Plc: In accordance with Section 55 sub-section 1 & 2 of the NDIC Act 2023, the corporation has commenced the liquidation process of the failed bank with immediate verification and payment of insured deposits to the bank depositors. |
