Recently Jehovah witness and their plenty drama was discussed here. This man literarily murdered his wife and son cos if the hospital had offered CS delivery ab initio when the labour was getting difficult he wod hav refused since u can't conduct emergency CS without blood transfusion. Sorry for ur loss Oga, I doubt if u hav a case sha cos ur telling Dr what you want and nit want due to your religious inclinations caused all of this

The thing I don't understand about Nigeria, why are the husbands allowed to make decisions on their wife's birthing plan?

Shouldn't it be her decision alone? Very annoying.

But you don’t know if he would have refused or not. Besides c-section can be offered without blood transfusion

I know once everyone heard Jehovah’s Witnesses, they were ready to blame him immediately ( and I get it) but his narration makes sense from a medical point of view

It should not take hours for a doctor to come in and assess in an emergency. Every minute is crucial . This hospital system killed his wife. Not his religious belief this time

When the water breaks and she's not contracting, she should have been sectioned, not induced. A baby in the womb without water is already stressed

No she can be induced and monitored appropriately . C-section can then be an option if induction is not going as planned.

In this case there was no monitoring at all. How would they know when she got critical?

RIP to mother and child.
This is a painful loss.

That’s what grinds my gores

Once someone says that, they belong in the trash bin in my opinion. Because they have absolutely no clue the myriads of things that can go wrong from the moment leading up to and even days after giving birth

how will a C-section be performed without blood donation?

The simple truth is that his Jehovah witness inclinations to no blood transfusion is the sole reason why the mother and child died carelessly.
The doctor wanted to do a CS, but because you have deposed a durable power of attorney to the effect of no blood transfusion the doctor couldn't do much.
It is important that we allow attendant medical professionals do what they think best irrespective of our knowledge of the profession.
The best thing would have been for the husband to take his pregnant wife to a Jehovah witness doctor who would have known what to do differently. Otherwise you put religion aside and allow proper medical procedures to be done.
This sad and painful episode is clearly avoidable.
God will show us mercy

Very sad because it was all indeed avoidable.

Okay but you don’t know that he would have said no c-section immediately

I need you people to drop this bias that you already placed in your heart against this man because you don’t know for sure what he would have chosen if C-section was offered in the beginning

What we do know for a fact is that in an emergency, it took the doctor hours to get to them because they were in another clinic. That’s a system failure that should not be overlooked.

seborrhic:
Unfortunate series of events, but what I find troubling and suspicious in his narrative of events is this:if your wife was not contracting after rupture of the membranes, what the hospital did was what any other standard facility would do,they started with cytotec,at the lowest dose recommended, repeated when there was still no noticeable contraction, then scaled up to oxytocin.
The one issue I found with the Hospital management is that they would have exhausted the full 4 dose regimen of cytotec before starting with oxytocin.
The problem with dealing with men like this that feel they know it all from what they read is that you must play everything by the book,if not they would use one issue as being the cause of a mishap.
All these things he mentioned, paediatrician being present, physician, using infusion pump, partograph,CTG monitor, etc, even in advanced countries they are not as it's made out to be where all these personnel and instruments would be available.
I bet if he had been told from the onset that his wife needed to be sectioned,he would have blatantly refused and told them to exhaust every other means.
But here he is finding fault with every step taken.
It's sad he has lost both wife and child, but finding fault with every step is just ridiculous.
His wife came by 11am with no issues, was he expecting the consultant to be on ground monitoring an expected uneventful labour?
Let the hospital say it's own side of the story.
Mishaps happen all over the world and there is no where every case is done by the book.
It's sad and may God grant him the fortitude to bear the loss.

Hmmmmmmmm

This is a sad story indeed

Well, as a doctor, I have these points to drop

1. As a JW, he has the full right to reject anything blood, but he can still perform surgeries on his wife and allow blood substitutes like tothema

2. The so-called Gynecologist/obstetrician made some errors. Pre-labour rupture of membranes in a multigravid without any obvious sign of contraction, with an estimated birth weight of 3.9kg is a very clear indication of CS until proven otherwise. I am not a gynae bit I have entered theatre many times so I know this.

3. Never mess with medical personnel. Some of them DO know their onions. This anaesthetist nurse knows the fulk BLS protocol of resuscitation.

4. It's so painful that this young man lost both mother and baby on the same day. R-jolad should really scrutinize the kind of medical practitioners they employ. The bereaved should take the matter to MDCN disciplinary committee for further action.

5. May God comfort the bereaved. Ọmọ this one hit home embarassed embarassed

All the jehova witness people are the ones killing themselves, their wives and their children.
Shey they don't marry non-jehova witness people, they should attend only jehoha witness hospitals since they refuse blood transfusion.
Or call their jehova witness women at home to help their wives deliver.
How can your wife be operated on to deliver without blood transfusion?

Rupture membrane doesn’t mean the baby is lacking oxygen.

The oxygen is supplied via the placenta and umbilical cord.

I’ve had two babies and you can go hours after membrane rupture and have a normal birth while they monitor and make sure nothing is wrong.

They didn’t monitor this woman. The hospital is at fault
MatrixReloaded:
First of all, remove religion from the husband belief. Being a Jw doesn't imply when a woman is facing her repercussion of early humans.
She rupture around 3am and it never dawn to a man with medical background that the baby is lacking oxygen.
At that instance the woman should have been induced (force labor). "ANYWAY"
it baffles me how some people view c/s as a taboo when in reality is the best and safest way to save both mother and unborn child.
Don't be victim of religion misconceptions

Seems u are a witness or u don't know those guys. People that will be taken to hospital emergency ward with broken bones and blood gushing out and still refuse blood transfusion. Why go to the hospital? They should take them to their kingdom hall for treatment

What evidence? Show me where he was open about CS. By the way, it's not even his decision to make. It's his wife's.

Sis You know it pains me to support a typical Nigerian man.But in this case, this man didn’t do anything wrong. The whole system is broken

They kept administering more and more medications to stimulate contractions when they weren’t adequately monitoring the patient and fetus.

The doctor wasn’t on ground when shit hit the fan even though this was his patient and it was a scheduled induction so he knew they would be there. When you induce labor you have to know that since it’s not natural labor, the cervix may refuse to cooperate at any time and you have to be there to make sure that mom and baby can get to the OR ASAP if needed. This man didn’t refuse surgery if necessary. Why blame him?

I was induced twice and in both cases my OB/GYN was available right there to make sure everything went well. They have a surgeon on hand in case something went wrong with my induction so they could operate immediately. Both the surgeon and the anesthesiologist came and talked to me prior to induction to let me know what they plan to do in case of an emergency. I agreed and we proceeded. If anything had gone wrong, I’d have been in the OR in less than 10 mins for rescue and resuscitation. That’s a system that has their emergency routine mastered and ready to go.

This doctor induced a patient knowing that induction has risks and was in another hospital while his patient was declining. No adequate monitoring for them to even know if the baby was in distress with all the unmeasured pitocin they were pumping into mom.

I know JW have a bad rap and Nigerian men are not it sometimes. But those weren’t the reason his wife died. The hospital failed them:

Why would you need blood being available as a prerequisite for CS?
Do you even know why blood is needed for surgeries or you think after an operation like CS for example, you transfuse a woman blood as a matter of routine?
Some of the things one reads is just laughable.

No. correction.
The baby and mom died because the hospital gave the mom a medication that caused her uterus to rupture because they weren’t monitoring her adequately. The C-section didn’t kill her. It was an attempt to save her.

Well, the deed is done already…it’s very unfortunate. This personal relationship with professionals (using watsapp chats) do not always help! He should have used a University teaching hospital or transferred her immediately he sensed incompetence. Two hours is a long time to save a soul. This ordeal is really touching.
