How Do You Navigate Nigeria As Irreligious Parents ? by Tobdek: 2:34pm On Jun 07
I've been thinking recently about how life in Nigeria would be if I have a child as an atheist. Religion pervades every sphere of life in our society. It isn't taught objectively in our schools. Every street/ neighborhood has churches left, right and centre. In my street alone, there are more than three churches.

Most certainly, there'll be pressure from parents and other relatives to raise one's children in "the way of the lord". How do raise your kids and navigate family life as irreligious people in Nigeria?

Best you can do for your kids is to give them the tools for how to navigate life. Don't worry so much about the religious activities around them, if you teach them how to think they'll hopefully figure it out for themselves. I teach my children how to recognise when they're being scammed as part of a lesson in critical thinking skills. I see the effect it has and I have hope that when they are more mature they'll see religion for what it is themselves.

Not a serious problem. They can be irreligious, realistic, and be unperturbed by what religious people have to say or think. How hard is that?
Re: How Do You Navigate Nigeria As Irreligious Parents ? by hopefulLandlord: 9:19pm On Jun 07
I think Lordreed has done a good job on the thread with his first post.

Let me also add that you should try to check things up from questions they ask. Don't be ashamed to tell them you don't know something and say both of you should use computer to check it out, that closes the gap religion usually uses to influence people. For instance if he wonders how water gets into coconut just say you don't know and say you'd check it out and you're ready to learn this with him. The average religious person in Nigeria believes that Jewish or Arab god is definitely responsible for putting the water.
Check out the below video of late Carl Sagan. It explains this position https://m.youtube.com/shorts/ARhg5_G_yKc

The earth and the things in it does not revolve around religious people alone and is not revolving because of religious people.

Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them

Ji,ma sun le. Time and space dey under this earth for everyone to carry out activities including irreligious and religious ones. That's the reality you have to know and accept.

my kids are just some months old. But yeah there is that pressure. But nothing much. Mother inlaw just chips it in sometimes to my wife but never directly. Everyone knows our stance on the matter already and they respect it to a large extent.

Simple, you don't. they will hear all sorts of religious whatever when they leave the house. It is your duty to set them straight.

It's like people that are thieves and armed robbers. in most cases their parents did not teach them to take what does not blong to them but they learned such bad habits from outside. Keep telling your kids the right things and when they are old enough, they can decide for themselves.

The usual hypocrite accuses me of abuse and insult when i simply stated the facts. Where is the abuse and insult, where you've been throwing insults with reckless abandon? Is that the other reason why you deny God, so that you can abuse and insult with glee?
Is hope not a synonym of believe?
Are you not a liar and hypocrite?
Are you not a self acclaimed atheist whose family are praying for his quick salvation from destruction?
Is the devil not your dad?
Has he not devoured you?
Are these insults or facts?

Lolz, he has all the insults and abuses in the book and keeps gaslighting that i am the one insulting and abusing. The three bolded are clear undisputed insults/abuses. You'll likely not find me dead or alive using such words. Or maybe you're referring to cultural insult- there are people who look at themselves as older or better and if they are responded to or disagreed with, they consider it an insult, perhaps that is what you mean by insult. If that is it, it is subjective, not objective.
Or perhaps if you are referring to the facts as insult/abuse, like me stating that you are an hypocrite or a child of the devil. Those are facts. Or are you not an unbeliever? Every unbeliever is a child of the devil. When you lie, like you usually do, when you are cunning and sly. Of course, i will say so. Calling a thief a thief is not an insult. It is a fact. (If you now say that you feel offended by the truth, i can reconsider). i am actually very considerate if you are offended by "name-calling". But i am not omniscient, i do not know it pains or hurts you, you need to voice out. Like i told you, i am just a man, not God.

Six years I have been an atheist is enough to know that your fairy sky daddy is as real as a six naira note. LMFAO!
What's all these nonsense, who care how many years you have been foolish? i was foolish for more years before i gave my life to Christ. If number of years in something is enough to know, i have been more years a believer to know. There are people who have been 50years and more in the truth or in error. This is a useless point to bring up, but of course, it's reed. Maybe i need to shut you up yet again.

You are the one bringing up my years as an atheist and how people are supposedly praying for me. Six years of prayers and still nothing? Is that not enough to show how much of a myth you indulge in? What is my concern if someone spends 100 years indulging in myth beliefs? The length of time doesn't change the simple fact that it is still a myth.

And there we go making another myth in his head, that he shut me up. You have something wrong with your head if you truly believe that.

Again and again, your voice and writing don't need to shake while addressing me; i am a man. The Bible is not FULLY mythology. Calling history a myth many times online doesn't make it a myth; it doesn't work that way. What you refer to were true events, recorded, stated and believed to be so. It is not my problem that you refuse to hope in miracles or the supernatural.

LoLz. When you name call what are you doing if not insult. Yet you want to hold yourself as if you aren't a self righteous hypocrite. All the time I have not bothered to respond to you did you not insult me several times but you want to act like an innocenti. What a supreme jerk.

i call you your moniker, and what you do, which is mainly cunningness and hypocrisy. Also, i call you a child of the devil because you openly claim to be one (every atheist is a bigger fool and a child of the devil, according to the Bible). So i am scripturally right. It's not an insult but stated fact. If someone is mentally deranged, he is mad, it is not an insult. It is a different thing if you say you feel sad about it, i can be magnanimous. You may say if there was anything else i called you apart from these. It's funny you're very concerned about my righteousness, do you love righteousness?

You placed your years in folly at par with knowledge, i did not say years make one ENOUGH TO KNOW. You did reed, you did. People prayed for the Messiah to come for centuries. People prayed for the Azuza revival and others that followed for about 100 years. The Israelites prayed for freedom from Egypt for decades. i have seen people pray for a child for 20 years. Your family's years of prayers are to save your eternity, appreciate them. i would again shut you up just now if not that i seem to be having a good laugh with your feeble responses.

It's funny how glaring logical conclusions and reasoning is what you call cunningness. I am not even attempting very clever arguments because there are people on here that way better at it than me but because your fallacious thinking is coming up against what it obviously cannot supersede you think I am cunning. Bwahahahahahahaha!

Look up the meaning of self righteousness it has nothing to do with being righteous.

Someone will just make up shit in their head and believe it, is that not the definition of being a dumbarse? So by your own logic I am not insulting you I am merely telling it like it is.

Know that HOPE and BELIEVE are synonyms, be grateful for the lesson. You don't even need to believe it, i showed you evidence more than once.
You said "Oh it's now you know it's ad hominem attack". If that doesn't show agreement, you need grammar lessons.

Obviously, i used it idiomatically. Your writing was poor and hurried. Do you now believe in divine healings, this one you keep repeating blindness AGAIN. The Bible contains history, i did not call it a history book, that's part of the cunning. For example, it contains the hitory of the ministry of Jesus and the start of christianity, or that is also a myth to you? cry cry

You accept the bigger fool part, good (i know you're a snake and you will still say that you don't accept it. You'd even deny your name if it comes to it because you are a liar and hypocrite). i call you a child of the devil because you are an established liar and the Bible says he is your father.
Joh 8:44  Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Your cunningness is not referring to cleverness but trickery/deceit just like the Bible refers to the devil. You sure must not forget so soon.
Lols, self righteous has nothing to do with righteous but the dictionary definition says otherwise, lolz. Do you love righteousness? Your calling me names is subjective and due to your personal beliefs, on the other hand your actions clearly show your hypocrisy and deception.

Bwahahahahahahaha! Even if you stood before me physically you can't shut me up, talk less of being behind a device screen. You lot make up shit in your head and just believe it. The spiritual controls the physical, don't get it twisted. i shut you up and you are even somehow proving it saying that i asked you to shut up(though i don't even remember physically saying that, lolz). How self deceived are you?
BTW, we pray without ceasing, so it's going to be till i die if Jesus tarries. Unfortunately, i did not mention praying for you(talk about synonyms, bwahahahahahaha. i mentioned believing with you for your children.
