But how will this thing increase inflation?
kelvindj98:
Bro, you can see the illiterates we share a country with. In fact I was praying for govt to agree to NLC's 400k demand so that I will watch and laugh at the suffering that it will cost. When people are buying a loaf of bread for 20k we go hear am.

Here in the north, some northerners are using awara in place of meat and fish. I have eaten it and I can testify it makes sense.

What do you mean by spending power?
SmartyPants:

Increased spending power = increased demand for goods and services = increased prices for goods and services. Its logical.

undecided if we talk now they Wil say we worship the whites. Why wud a country be using the same template for minimum wage. USA uses different templates for minimum wage same as in Germany. My sister in Indiana told me their own minimum wage is $12 per hour while in California it's $16. It shows that each state pays it's own minimum wage based on it's economy potential. But in Nigeria the govt is fixing same minimum wage for a worker in Ekiti or zamfara and the ones in Lagos or Rivers. C'mon. Let each state fix it's own minimum wage. But before that can be effective,we must return to Regional govt.

Mk we dey play dey go until then.

The FG is the only person that will fix the MW for only FG employees.
State Governors are only supposed to use that FG figure as a measure to fix theirs. So it's possible that some SG can even fix a much higher MW when compared to the FG given what they generate as IGR and many other States can also improve on their IGR by creating better enabling environment for businesses and looking for ways to encourage true businesses thrive well and entrepreneurship sustainable.

Increased demand for goods and services should lead to more hands or labour to cultivate foodstuffs.

We should not be applying the old Economics or Law or demand and supply.

It should lead to growth in the market sector as there would be influx of sellers.

Lol but you are also applying the same principles. An influx of sellers will happen, yes but this is long term. Okay imagine the prices of tomatoes shoot up and you want to invest. It will take you at least 6 months you enter the market. By the time demand and supply reach a new equilibrium point you will realize that we only shifted from Point A to point B along a 180 ° axis.

How do you do the filtering system?
dfrost:

My brother, I have started using a water filtering system in my place for almost 18 months now. No more sachet water. And guess what? I've saved close to 100k+ (I've already subtracted cost of maintaining the filtering system, washing the tank) and also saved the environment from polyethylene waste.

The message in the post isn't about egg or any particular product. It's about how the prices of different commodities are likely to become excessively higher when the minimum wage is increased by 3 fold

I will also increase my tutorial college from 5k to 12k. It's as simple as that. Private teachers are demanding for nothing less than 800 naira per hour even with 30k minimum wage

I dont understand.

Are you saying the bolded will cause inflation?
CaptainFM1:
It's simple market principle at play. Who will increase the wages of the informal sector?

Let's not forget that the people on the informal sectors too also approach the same market, the same hospital, pays the same electricity bills, buy fuel at the same rate and their children attends the same schools.

Everything has to shift accordingly.

You can increase your egg price no problem.with the increase in Minimum wage I will have money to buy layers myself so that why going to work my layers lay egg that will make me compete with you and force your price down

You don't even need layers, ordinary boiler will give you enough eggs even without giving them these concentrated and processed feeds.

That's in rare cases, economic theories and principles rarely work here. Sellers will rather store the egg somewhere till serious buyers shows up.And again egg also has other purposes it serves aside for consumption, bakers, people into cosmetic products also buy in large quantity so there will always be demand for it.
Oga I just gave you the most basic economic theory. You don't seem to have any understanding of economics or even eggs. What do you think is the shelf life of eggs?
Again, if you keep storing eggs while your chickens keep laying, there will be an egg glut and you will be forced to sell at a much lower price.
For you to think that increase in competition causes a reduction in price is a rear economic theory, it shows you don't understand.

Same can be said about the eggs can't it? wink

So it's a 'one size fits all' type of situation cool
That's my point, you can't just decide to sell your product at any price without considering market forces. Be it eggs, condoms, garri, or fish

Once there is demand for a direct substitute for a commodity. The price of that close substitute starts shooting up till it level up with the price of the main commodity. The price of that your Awara won't remain the same in the upcoming days.

Leave Him Alone Let Him Be Talking. By The Time Awara Become More Expensive Than meat And Fish, His Eyes Will Clear. Pap/Akamu Chaff That They Use To Throw Away is Now As Costly As The Akamu Itself now, Just Because It Is A good Substitute/Additive To Chicken Feed.

Always dancing around the problem.
I said it here last week, this is the conversation on street traders lips, who will increase there take home profits?

... The solution is simple, why fix what's not broken. Return fuel prices back! and tackle other sectors hf the economy.

Thank God we all can see, FUEL RULES NIGERIA. YOU MESS WITH HER, U PAY GOOD

Comments here are very funny sha. When the minimum wage is increased, you lot will still expect the farmer to increase the wage paid to his workers whilst expecting him to maintain same price thus maintaining same profit made on sales. How do you lots even think in this country. Erryman just dey think of his own basic needs without critically analysing what will favour errybody.

Total profit made when minimum wage was 30k was 100k
Pays his two workers 60k, takes 30k himself and plows back 10k into the business.

Later your increase the minimum wage to 60k and you expect him to maintain the same 100k profit ??
Una normal for this country sef ??

Most Nigerians are terrible people. So heartless And Selfish. They will still be the ones to complain that he doesn't pay his workers well and using them for slave labour.

Very dumb..!! The workers can as Well start farming their own eggs..!!!

This your last sentence is where labor needs to work on, get some of your people into section of all forms of agriculture set agriculture hubs across the nation with microchip cards to monitor the sales to workers alone with this it reduces the middlemen issues

We all know prices of everything increased because of exchange rate, how these sets of people think that increased minimum wages will increase prices of commodities is what I don't understand

Truly Nigerians are their own enemy.

If you are the famer's worker won't you expect him to increase your salary as well?
Where do you expect him to see the money to increase your salary?
Don't worry, be clapping for labour, as soon as minimum wage is increased you will see the result everywhere.

It works both ways. If there is a greater demand for Awara (whatever it is), the price of eggs would fall.
The egg seller will be forced to reduce his price to remain competitive.
You guys are too funny. You do not even understand the economy at all.
The poultry business will crash completely if the owner does not meet up with cost of production and sales. While Awara becomes the replacement and new meat and egg. Boom, Awara becomes very expensive and take over the price of meat and eggs. At the end everybody starts from scratch and everything goes back to square one.
