kabe1: Oh, that's nice. I always thought they were all paid for by the last administration, except for the fighter trainers I was doubtful. On procuring from local manufacturers on defence systems like APCs, yes I can attest to that. It's an ingenious move to also own a percentage in ownership of companies like Proforce. It's looking good for our military. Only the army seems to be the weird one except for the MD light helos. |

Toju200: UAVs are crucial for modern warfare, we need to continue to grow and enhance our capabilities. It's good that the Nigerian Air Force ordered 5 units, but that's still a long way to go. We also need to invest in catapult flight assisted UAVs. 2 Likes |

Kenya police recently acquired the South African DCD Protected Mobility Spring buck armored personnel carriers. The Chinese Norinco units we had acquired earlier were ironically very susceptible to IEDS and even couldn't withstand RPG fire according to some police reports. 6 Likes

NAF ACHIEVES ENGINEERING MILESTONE WITH IN-COUNTRY 4800 HOURS INSPECTION ON DORNIER 228 AIRCRAFT In a significant engineering milestone, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) engineers have, for the first time, successfully undertaken a 4800-hour Periodic Depot Maintenance (PDM) on a Dornier -228 (DO-228) aircraft. This level of scheduled maintenance on the DO-228 aircraft, previously performed by foreign Maintenance Repair Organizations (MROs), was completed at a significantly cheaper rate and with reduced aircraft downtime. Speaking at a brief ceremony recently held to honour the engineers involved in the PDM, the Chief of Aircraft Engineering (CACE), Air Vice Marshal Pius Oahimire, noted that the completion of the in-country PDM was a major boost to capacity building and demonstrates a newfound confidence in aircraft maintenance in the NAF. He also noted that the motivation for this feat was no doubt derived from a key enabler of the Chief of Air the Staff (CAS), Command Philosophy which harps on prioritizing logistics support and strong maintenance culture. The CACE then commended the Unit Commander, Air Vice Marshal Olanrewaju Oyename, for his exceptional leadership and creating the enabling environment for his engineers to thrive and achieve this remarkable milestone. Speaking further, Air Vice Marshal Oahimire encouraged the engineers to continue striving for excellence, restating that the NAF under Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar remains committed to providing the necessary support and conducive working environment for personnel to function effectively and achieve the Service's mission objectives. He then appreciated the Chief of the Air Staff for his unwavering commitment to ensuring quality aircraft maintenance in the NAF. In his remarks, the Air Officer Commanding the Air Training Command, Kaduna, Air Vice Marshal Nnamdi Ananaba expressed the delight of the Command at the attainment of this feat. He stated that the vision for the 431 Engineering Group Kaduna, is to be an MRO and the accomplishment of the 4800-hours inspection indicates that the vision is achievable. Earlier, Air Vice Marshal Oyename had noted that the inspection of the aircraft, designated NAF 031, began in May 2021 but faced several delays, primarily due to challenges in acquiring necessary spare parts. He then praised the determination, commitment, and expertise of the engineers and technicians who undertook the historic task. “This is history, and you made it happen. This is the first PDM on a NAF aircraft conducted entirely by NAF personnel in the First Engineering Unit of the NAF at the Premier NAF Base in Kaduna,” he said. Looking ahead, the Commander emphasized the importance of further specialist training to enhance the maintenance team's capabilities. Also speaking at the event was the Commanding Officer of 30 Engineering Wing, Wing Commander Micheal Aransiola, who explained that the 4800-hours inspection was the highest level of maintenance carried out on the DO-228 aircraft. He then detailed the five-phase processes of the PDM as follows; Phase I involved acceptance, documentation and docking; Phase II included paint stripping and removal of components; Phase III focused on repairing discrepancies; Phase IV involved reinstallation of components and operational checks; and Phase V concluded with ground checks, taxi checks, and a Functional Check Flight. The successful completion of the 4800-hours inspection marks a new era of self-reliance and technical proficiency for the NAF. NTSA: The things we have been saying all along.... Russia/Soviets are/were never great at war, the only reason why they even won against the Nazis was all thanks to the Allied Forces pounding on the western front and the relentless air bombing on the Nazi infrastructure, otherwise Adolf would have blitzkrieged Stalin to Japan. I mean, look at their latest offense in the north east of Ukraine, they throw in 3 tanks, a few unlucky drunk dudes on top of APCs and just pray to St Peter for the best (only to be taken out by POV drones)... The only good thing the Russians have going is artillery. 4 Likes |

Lurker4Long:They are improving at a rapid pace from what I'm seeing. Also air defences are trained, you don't use s400 for a drone threat. It's a long range defense system. Patriot early days in Saudi Arabia during the Iranian drone attacks also failed. It's the pac3 type patriot missile that was perfected https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/14/world/middleeast/saudi-arabia-refineries-drone-attack.html 1 Like |

Drones have drastically changed modern warfare, particularly impacting infantry movement and transportation, which has led to a significant increase in casualty rates in the ukr-rus conflict. If insurgents in Africa begin utilizing drones for activities such as grenade drops, how do we solve such situations? As much as we have to delve into making those drones, we need to also look into countermeasures for them 2 Likes |

NTSA:Lol, Supposed Ukraine inwhich they are fighting is armed by the richest 32 nations with their experts on seat managing the war for them. With not just conventional weapons but top-notch cruise missiles and ballistics with more that hasn't been disclosed. Also has the isr of NATO at its beck and call. Honestly they are doing quite well and adapting with the state of their military that was riddled with corruption and mistakes from the beginning of the conflict. 6 Likes |

davefurn: Even the patriot system has failed so far in the ongoing war in Ukraine. The US Army initially said the Patriot achieved an 80 percent success rate in Saudi Arabia and 50 percent in Israel. Those claims later were scaled back to 70 percent and 40 percent. For me Neither the Patriot nor the S-400 are as effective as claimed 1 Like |

In the past I have said multiple times that there is no such thing as a effective, good, blah blah weapon system Any weapon system depending on its complexity and especially if it is likely to be acted on by deliberate external interference will be vulnerable to the vagaries of unpredictable/probabilistic internal and external factors For example even for the layman, it's understandable that probability of failures will exist both at human and system level, not to say about other far complicated interactions when the system operates as part of system of systems and is also subjected to actions of other hostile systems OEMs use controlled test conditions to derive the stats for brochures and all, but even than , many OEMs will falsify, omit, relax operational parameters for sales and publicity etc. Let's not forget the weird lust for aesthetics in a weapon system As i always say its foolish in my opinion to have expectations beyond a reasonable level Come to think of it , what is luck if not probability 2 Likes |

NTSA: Just for the sake of discussion In my opinion that is another matter, a secondary issue. Primary issue is to think that one can wage war on multiple nations (multiple nations will get involved was inevitable given the no of power centers in europe then), importantly many of them don't even share borders and expect to see through that successfully, is rank foolishness or maybe something else at play Curiosly germans/their proxies seem to be everywhere where money is concentrated |

GreenandGold:with this your statement I can say you are not following what is happening in the Frontline, Russia deployed a troop of about 15,000 men to Kharkov directions, they took over 8km and 10km in two direction in less than 3 days using only light infantry and little artillery, Russian main goal in the Kharkov was not an to take Kharkov rather to force Ukraine draw it force and it reserves from the donbass region. Ukraine seeing the threat of the game Russian was playing redeploy over 15 brigade and other tdf to the Kharkov to stop the Russia offensive, ( note, some this brigade are depleted due to heavy loss in donbass region) playing into the game of the Russia Force which is to draw Ukraine reserves from other direction, the main reason Ukraine was force to make all this urgent redeployment was due lack and loss in manpower. with all the Ukraine redeployment and even with the permission which allow Ukraine hit target in Russia territory Ukraine has not been able to push the Russia back ,they still occupied the same position rather the Russian force are advancing slowly every day. Russia is fighting a very formaibale threat , they are winning , an note Russia is using soft hand Ukraine because of there leader just imagine if Russia had use Israel methods on Ukraine by now no body will be talking of Ukraine again 5 Likes |

NTSA:nothing has changed oga , rather Russia is expanding globally. from all your statements your are pure pro Ukraine and pro western. no country in this earth has never fought what Russia is fighting today, imagine fighting 50 nation in Ukraine ,I bet you if USA had meet this kind of number supporting Libya and Iraq they would have lost both wars, Russia has shown to be a world power , with all the sanctions, weapons give to Ukraine they are still advancing, doing good military 1. in artillery Russia is producing x2 of what the whole NATO are producing . 2. is missile and weapon Russia is producing X 3 of what the whole Western are producing and that is one of the reason Russia will defeat Ukraine. if you follow the Frontline well you see that the Russia are advancing almost every day in May alone they took the combined 6 months achievement of Ukraine counteroffensive. let me stop here 3 Likes |
