Festac Town has lost its glory. Bad roads and shops everywhere. Almost all ground floor of block of flats have been converted to business centres. Duplexes are not left out in the madness. The last time Festac Town had a good serenity of environment was in the early 2000s.

I miss the town though cos I was born and bred there.

Where ? Which Avenue? Which Road?

Government no just want to repair road or work on the Government houses because they know the tribe making use of it.. This is how we shouted before some side of Aguda was developed. Those shouting above... We know those that Chanel their toilet to Gutters in Lagos and those that pour their dirty water in ther Veranda. We know them

You guys don’t get tired of being dense and tribalistic?

Your government collects taxes and does nothing with it except to feed fat. While you get off on hating each other as they stow your collective wealth away for their future generations 10x removed.

They know you can’t do anything but come on the internet to spew tribalistic BS. When you see the people responsible for your plight, you lay down and worship them but feel strongly against the next person who’s just as much a victim as you.

I’ve never seen a group of people as unique as Nigerians

Stop defending rubbish

So if govt collect taxes does that means citizens are qualified to leave like animals, don't maintain and destroy properties for selfish gain.

Even if the govt is corrupt with the taxes that does that mean the citizens should be nuisance to the society?

If so then there is no difference between the corrupt government and the nuisance set of citizens.

FOR THOSE OF YOU BRAIN WASHED BY AGBADO, AS U CAN SEE TINUBU DID NOT BUILD LAGOS.

WHAT YOU ARE VIEWING THERE IN ITS GLORY DAYS WAS EQUIVALENT TO LiVING ANYWHERE IN THE WESTERN WORLD IN TERMS OF INFRASTRUCTURE, ORGANISATION AND URBAN PLANNING.

PEOPLE WERE BORN AND RAISED THERE A LONG TIME AGO, WHEN TINUBU WAS STILL A DRUG DEALER.

NIGERIA BUILT LAGOS.

You're the one who's blind she's calling the Govt attention to tidy the place buh once Govt starts and put everything she made mention of people will start playing the victim card or saying is because they're not voted.....

People can't be hungry and trying to survive and you be calling on Govt to give you something smart when people are hungry and just trying to survive...

So is ur problem if you think my comment is tribalistic...

If you want a good and smart city head will roll and poverty might also increase...

U TURN EVERYTHING TRIBAL.

U WERE BORN IN OGUN STATE AND LIVE IN OGUN STATE.

U KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FESTAC.

ASK BEREM NICELY TO EDUCATE U.

TILL TODAY, ALL TRIBES LIVE IN FESTAC, THOUGH STILL VERY EXPENSIVE.

DONT LET THE BAD FEDERAL ROAD FOOL YOU, IT CAN BE FIXED, THE BLOCKS BUILDINGS CAN BE PAINTED AND STREET LIGHTING TURNED BACK ON.

THE TAPS CAN STILL RUN AND EVERYTHING RESTORED WITHIN 24MONTHS MAX.

One thing about Lagosians is that, they are laid back...they see anyone who is not living in Lagos as a suffer head while in reality, they are the ones suffering and smiling.

The problems of Festac are many.

The design involved centralised services which created single points of failure. Great in other places but not NG.

Indiscriminate flouting of the master plan. All sorts of buildings sprouting up

Lack of community ownership - look at those flats.

Festac is the metaphor what happens when people are free to do what they like. A cautionary tale for all those who believe in freedom over law.

I can tell you that if festac falls into state hands, there will be gnashing of teeth but long term recovery. Otherwise let Festac fall into the hands of a Wike or Tokunbo Wahab type person.

Personal happiness ends where it brings discomfort to my neighbour.

It's not about being predominantly igbo, it's about it being populated by a sample set of reckless Nigerians. Even if another tribe was there, I doubt there would any difference.

Festac inhabitants have not done well at all.

LET ME POLITELY COUNTER WHAT YOU WROTE HERE.

THE PEOPLE IN NIGERIA ARE TO PROVIDE A SOURCE OF INCOME, SINCE THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT CREATING JOBS.

ANYBODY CRITICISNG THE EFFORT OF THE POOR IS A VAMPIRE, JUDGING THAT THE PENALTY FOR STEALING IS MOB BURNING.

SECONDLY, THE GOVERNMENT DONT HAVE MONEY TO BUILD, THE PEOPLE HAVE BUILT AFTER GOING TO THE SAME FEDERAL GOV FOR APPROVAL.

NOW, TO COME BACK AND DESTROY THE PEOPLE EFFORT TO KEEP LIFE GOING, WILL BE NOTHING SHORT OF GOVERNMENT RASCALITY.

RESPET THE EFFORT OF THE PEOPLE AND STOP USING STATE MONEY OF THE PEOPLE TO DESTROY STRUCTURES DULY ERECTED BY THE PEOPLE PRIVATE MONEY.

GOVERNMENT IS NOT FOREVER, WHEN WE GO CALL U TO ANSWER DEY COME.

First off, who says I am in Lagos? I can never go back to that shit-hole undecided

Secondly, from your previous comment, it is quite clear you do not live in your god father's state. You live in another man's state, yet you have the guts to tell others to "go una state"

Can you see that sense is far from you now
This one thinks living abroad is something to brag with for someone like me, you are clowning yourself before me. Look deeply you are the senselesss one and obviously on some hard drugs hence you can't be civil on the slightest of argument. Don't bother quoting back, don't waste your foolishness. Most of you nairaland guys are very senselesss I don't know if most of you are from same family .
I just checked I knew it must be a redpiller, never seen one that had sense alaboshi

Festac Has lost its glory no thanks to lack of maintenance by those who are supposed to be in charge. This place made my childhood fun filled and memorable in those days.

An Ode to my beautiful Festac:

Oh my Festac, once radiant, now forlorn,
Your beauty dimmed, your pride, once brightly worn.
In you, my heart found solace, peace serene,
A haven where my joys and dreams convene.

May those in power hear our heartfelt plea,
Restore your grace, your charm, your dignity.
For in your arms, my soul learned to be free,
A sanctuary of love and harmony.

Your streets, the cradle of my fearless youth,
Where safety reigned, and life was purest truth.
Embodying the dreams of unity,
A symbol of our nation's legacy.

Forever in my heart, your memory glows,
A beacon of the peace that ever grows.
Oh Festac, may you rise and shine anew,
A testament to all our dreams come true.

For those of us who grew up in Festac, I am sure we are not happy with the current state of things in Festac. I wish Festac will take back it's place in all ramifications.

There is a 2000 Nollywood movie by Helen Ukpabio titled “Wasted Years” that starred Justus Esiri, Ashley Nwosu etc.. A scene in that movie was shot in a supermarket along First avenue. That supermarket is still there till this day. Infact that should be one of Charles Okocha’s first Nollywood movies. He was in the scene that was shot in that supermarket.
Anyway, my point is that is, it is difficult to reconcile what First Avenue looked like in that movie with what it is now. FESTAC town was the location of choice for many Nollywood movies in the ‘90s. If you want to see the glory days of FESTAC just go and watch Old Nollywood.

grin Bro .. you are absolutely right.Thumbs up you got it spot on.Festac was the film city of Nollywood in those days of yore..when Nigeria was far from the maddening crowd. It is so sad.

All one could see are rustic houses and dusty roads. Soviet era apartments that were demolished after the fall of the Berlin Wall in the mid 1980s.

The developers are leaving gradually.
