It is time the Nigerian government places a 10year embargo on the siphoning of Nigerian earned funds to sustain academic infrastructures in UK, US, Canada, and any other country Nigerians are going to for education tourism.

Only a foolish country allow people to ship off funds earned in that economy to benefit another economy, without paying any tax to the economy where the funds was earned.

They will sell property in Nigeria and pocket all the money to go donate to another economy, yet no tax is paid on the sale of that property to the economy where the wealth was acquired.

Imagine all the best income earners in Nigeria spending the bulk of their Nigerian earnings on the undergraduate education of their children or their own postgraduate education abroad, after the heavily subsidized undergraduate education that Nigeria provided them to secure those jobs in Nigeria that funded their ambition to wear winter jackets in Europe and North America?

Any country that does not understand the intricacies of economic national security, will keep wondering why its economy continue to flounder.

Even the countries receiving Nigerian funds know how to prioritize their own national economic security, and make policy changes from time to time to ensure that the academic tourists remain only a source of net foreign remittance into their own economy instead of a net subtractive parasite.

I will say it again, the prevailing time is not one to allow your best income earners take funds out of the Nigerian economy without as much as a 50kobo tax on their destructive drain of our national wealth.

Anyone that wants to go abroad for education should find a way to get a job in that country and raise the funds from the income earned in that country.

CBN should with immediate effect prohibit any transfers from a Nigerian account to any foreign academic institution for a period of 10years, while the government should simultaneously raise the school fees to something tangible that you save for years ahead, instead of the rubbish fees that is not up to the pocket money the students spend in a month.

Or is UK or Canada or US tuition fees for local student the kind of amount that local student will spend on buying burgers in a month?

So why are Nigerian universities charging money for 1month shawarma as annual tuition fees?

Charge well, pay lecturers well, and still have enough to upgrade and maintain the education infrastructure in Nigeria.

Goddammit!

It's not by long ranting.

Do you know how long it takes to do masters or Phd in Nigeria?

They came legally to UK and are studying in the schools that accepted. As long as they are not failing in their courses (studies), you should allow them to finish, you may not release their transcripts until they pay all they're owing. They only reneged to pay tuition due to economic hardships not that they don't want to pay. Why evict them like refugees? Lol they can't do this to US or other European countries' citizens, they know that. It just that Nigerian government is useless and commands no respect that's why the sh!t treatment

As in hem
The school even gave them 7 instalments in year 1 but in second year they reduced it to 3.
Almost all the student affected are in their second year.

Most almost through with their payments and I heard some even paid everything at last then the school confirm the payment and refused to admit them back.

That was how they ask the school to give them their money back since they won't graduate them

Just imagine the bad treatment. Something they can't try with any European countries' citizens or US. Nigerian leaders have rubbished the respect Nigerians used to have abroad. They now treats Nigerians more like a slave, and criminals.

95% Nigerians in this predicament are those that are going to uk to study and they just carry wife and children along to a country.
They never thought of going there alone to settle down first.

In UK you cannot have family and stay in one room it's not allowed you can go to jail for that. So these Nigerians are forced to get accommodation that can accommodate them where as you have balance fee to pay now rent join and feeding for family join. Life is about planning and planning well.

Na these people they bring bad news to Nigeria because them nu get sense.

My course mate needed equivalent of 4million naira to pay his balance instead he spent close to 6m to bring his wife and children and later he begin cry for rent and balance school fees

I think it's high people begin to re-strategize this japa thing oo..

Must I pay over 30M naira for japa study route to high tuition fees places like the UK, Canada etc?

Why can't I use that same fund, same study route and japa to countries with lower tuition fees, then use the balance to settle my life there after studies?

Lol, return to Nigeria and complete studies remotely? Does UK not know the reason why the student went to UK in the first place? Do they think it’s because of certificate alone?

They must have sold assets worth tens of millions and liquidated things back in Nigeria only to be ordered to return home empty handed. Return to a Nigeria that is in deep crisis

I pray they find a way to sort things out, but for those that campaigned and supported Tinubu, despite knowing he wasn’t the best for Nigeria, may they return and enjoy his government.

It still baffles me nigerians still run to UK with all those hard policies
LegendHero:
I find it very disturbing that people will go to the UK and depend on people in Nigeria to pay their schoolfees after they made the first semester payment.

It seems UK government policy also added to this. In USA, if you can’t pay schoolfees, there are some schools that will still allow you to progress just that they’ll not release your transcript/diploma after you graduate.

Also it’s more easier to get jobs UDT to offset some of the bills.

By the way, of all Nigerians student schooling abroad in Canada, USA, Finland, Australia, and etc. Why is it that it is only UK people that can’t pay school fees and facing deportation?

You made some reasonable points but a larger part of your argument is absolutely flawed:

Most of your criticism was mostly targeted at average Nigerians trying to eke out a good living and seeking for a better life, which they’re well within their rights to seek. If you can’t be empathetic about their plight then don’t make mockery and act savagery about their situation.

Nigeria is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of resources in Africa alone we’re Top 3 globally we’d be polled and fall in-between the Top 30 out of the UN recognized 195 countries of the world. Yet we’re still a third-world and developing country asides from Lagos, Abuja and some of few other cities in Nigeria, most of parts of our country have a semblance with failed states and bordering on “ 4th World “ if there’s a word like that. Why are we living in such tumultuous and dire conditions? Pray tell….its the politicians, the useless scoundrels, vacuous, uninspiring, retarded, directionless, rogues, greedy, self-serving fools we have had at the helms of affairs since independence.

The political and economic brigands who have mortgaged the past, present, foreseeable and even the distant future of millions of Nigerians.

The type that would misappropriate, allocate, and have a jamboree on the common patrimony of all Nigerians.

To whom much is given much is expected, and your Claim that low income and middle income Nigerians should be burdened with extra tax so your politicians, cronies, sons, and other members of their family can keep stashing our commonwealth, in tax havens like Panama, or Swiss accounts, acquire more properties and relocate to Dubai, share Eko Atlantic and a large chunk of Ikoyi, Banana Island properties to themselves and cronies? It’s utter nonsense and it’s not gonna happen.

No Nigerian should be paying taxes, until all the billions of dollars that’s been stolen from our national coffers, have been recovered, repatriated, accounted for and judiciously expended.

Until the EFCC stop being a political witching hunting tool end or at least curb to the barest minimum the economic skirmishes that the Nigerian state has been experiencing for ages.

A dunderhead sits his ass down in Abuja, earning 30m naira monthly for doing nothing aside’s puerile and frivolous activities like changing the anthem but no, increase tuition fees in public universities and government cutting subventions and removing educational subsidy is what should be our priority. Any missteps by the Federal government would be the last salvo and its Achilles heel at this very tense moment.

Lastly the remittances from Nigerians in the Diaspora has been the one of highest means of earning forex and generating revenue, stimulating the Nigerian economy. If an embargo was placed on emigration 10 years ago Nigeria could be in a state of nature now. Lol
