Same people crying and wailing for being marginalized are same people who debate and reject an opportunity to get an equal number of states as other regions in the country. My town, Afikpo was formerly in Abia state till 1996 when Ebonyi state was created. We were carved out of Abia and merged with Abakaliki to form Ebonyi. We didn't protest that because that brought government closer to us. I wonder why some people from Anambra are just being petty and unreasonable. I dare anyone from Anambra to give a cogent reason as to why they should not be included in the new state.

This debate should have focused on geopolitical benefits of a new state for the Igbo. A lot of native Igbo enclaves have been excised from the current South East by Mamman Nasir boundary adjustment of 1976. And the previous excision of the Western part of Igboland (Anioma) into different non Igbo administrative units circa 1956.

An Anioma State will recover some of the politically lost Igbo lands, re-increasing the tribes official landmass to about 40,000sq km. I used the phrase "politically lost" because, culturally, the Anioma areas still remains Igbo. No force on earth can change that one.

Therefore, South East and its people should support Igbos outside the South East to achieve a state that would be a part of the SE.

Leaving the struggle for the native Igbos of Benue, Kogi, Crossriver, Rivers and Akwaibom for another opportunity.

Think geopolitically!!!!
