Yoruba man and sense.

You proposed that Yoruba speaking part of Kwara and Kogi, and even some part of Delta and Edo state be merged with south west to form Western region.

But in the case of south east, you didn't propose that the Igbo speaking part of Rivers, Delta, Benue, Kogi, Cross River, etc be merged together to form South Eastern region, rather to show your true colour of hatred, you are proposing that the Ohaji/Egbema region, one of the oil producing LGAs in southern imo state be removed from South East to form part of Southern/Niger Delta region. Is it not shameless daylight witchcraft?

"....incorporating the Yoruba-speaking people in Kogi and the Igbomina people in Kwara State. Additional options would be the Itsekiri people of Delta State and Akoko-Edo people of Edo State to make their respective choices.” Is it supposed to be a tribal region or a geographical region?

A mix of both.

That's the right way to go. The present government system has failed. It generates corruption and indolence in Nigerians. Let every region or zone use what it finds in its immediate environment to grow its people and zone or region.

If Tinubu approves this bill, regions will have their own constitutions and powers. This will make the South-East region to break away to form the Republic of Biafra, South-West region will break away to form Oduduwa republic, North-East and North-West regions will break away to form the Arewa republic, only Mid-Western and South-South regions will remain to form Nigeria. Civil war may break out again.

Yoruba is proposing to annex their kith and kin in Kwara and Kogi + Akoko Edo in Edo and itshekri in Delta; but proposing for Anioma to join Midwest and Ohaji/Egbema in so called Southern IMO to join Southern region.

Please, why jump Rivers to merge Bayelsa with AkwaCross?

It is either Fapohunda is mischievous or do not understand the make up/geography of SS/SE and thus his proposed Southern Region,Midwest and South East regions. 1886 Berlin Conference at play!

The only issue I have with the proposal is the request to join Itsekiri in Delta to South West region.

I think it is not feasible or necessary especially die to geographical location.

I think the proposal that Yoruba speaking people of Edo,Kogi and Kwara to join the South Western region is in order however subject to the decision of the people of those Yoruba speaking areas to decide.

Is there going to be a referendum to determine which region they prefer, of course like you wrote bearing in mind the geographical location of the region they want to belong which has to be in close proximity to theirs

I believe every state has representatives in the National Assembly. The bill will be passed to the National Assembly and perhaps the state house of assemblies for deliberation.

Everyone who wish to make an input on it can join the discourse at the assemblies.

Only Owerri senatorial district in Imo state will resist regional government. The zone has gotten exceptionally rich through having every government establishments in the state located in the zone. Nothing left for the Orlu and Okigwe zones to develop with.

As a governor Tinubu gave more power to the Local Government and even created more (LCDA) because he believed that is the way governance can easily get to the people although this caused a big fight between him and Obasanjo then.

With Tinubu's antecedents, I won't be surprised if he swiftly assent to the bill that will return Nigeria to regional Government but that's going to offend the Northerners a lot.
you lie there, he didnt give any power to any LCDA

1. I read through the proposal and if it is true that is what is written there, I am disappointed. Mr Fapohunda could not even hide his narrow ethnocentrism for once. He found it convenient to merge the Yorubas into one unit by carving some parts of North central states into his proposed Western region while leaving option for some South South ethnic groups to join the West based on historical links but retained the abysmal five Eastern states for the proposed Eastern region. Ditto the rest of the North Central an South South. He failed to recognise the diversity of ethnicity in those belts but simply lumped them together. In short, it is easy to see that the draft serves a narrow ethnic interest and is not nationalistic.

2. I don't understand the folks who are rejoicing at this. The news says Tinubu will receive the bill from the busybody today. It is insignificant. Tinubu cannot sign it into law. The best he can do is to present it as an executive bill to the constiution amendment committee at NASS. Will he do that? Nay!! His so-called mandate is a northern mandate. He got 67% of his votes from the North and we know that anything restructuring is viewed with suspicion by the North. So for anyone to go into infantile rejoicing based on a draft is simply childish. The draft will probably be used to wrap groundnut in Gbaja's office.

3. To all those who really think a return to regionalism will solve our problems. May I ask this simple question. Will the system be run by this present set of political bandits or a different breed? If the answer is this present set then sorry. You just got played!!

Yoruba doesn't discriminate themselves, the Igbo in those states you mentioned won't agree to go back to South East region. Those in Benue may accept rejoining Easterners. That's is the issue on Igbos.

I'm sure down along the writeup, he made mention of optional and what deems fit for people in those areas, where they would want to belong to.
Nevertheless, it's only a proposal a d nothing more. The ibo speaking people in some(all) of the Southern States will not want to join the core Eastern States, so let's not fret about it.

Anyways it's a good start but to be able to achieve that a confab will have to be formed. But we don't need such now.
It would be easier and better if all the States be completely and fully autonomous with them having full control of their resources or 90% control of their resources. There should be creation of more LGA and RCDA depending on each State's peculiarity.
Whatever pattern we take there should be utmost decentralization of power. States who share the same ideologies though tribe and tongues may differ can come together to grow their economy by putting their collective resources together and sharing of resultant IGR.

Who is afraid of regional Government?

I'm an Easterner and I support this hundred percent.

I see this as a motivator for Easterners to begin to heavily invest in the east.

I wish they become even mistreated in other regions so they can stop being foolish and think home.

My investments are in the east and I'm proud of my home.
