Sen Shehu Sani on the mic

You know the problem with these speeches and why they fail to move me is that all these people always learn how to speak once they lose power but when in power all they claimed they can do will be forgotten.

Your most hated politician today when he lose power, he too will become an activist and start preaching, your most loved politician when he gets there and see the reality of governance he too will start sounding like a demon

Most of these politicians turned speakers, what did they do when they were there? Some of them with good intentions some with not good intentions what did they do or achieve in power?

The issue we don't want to accept is that there is no solution, when too many people are depending on too few resources. The population keeps increasing the resources keeps reducing or stay same

If a family of 30 is depending on one bucket of Garri, there will always be people going hungry and there will be uncles taking more than their fair share in every house(corruption) so to make family members not go hungry, we either increase the quantity of garri or reduce the number of mouths. We either increase productivity and revenue or reduce our population growth. Some will say why cant we grow our productivity and National income at the same rate as population, well its not that easy cos other countries would have been doing the same too. There is a reason places like China placed a ban on number of kids you can have

In the last 30yrs its reported that our population has doubled, I don't know of many countries we look up to where their population has doubled in the last 30yrs. If we continue with that trend things will get worse and there is nothing a Barack Obama as president will do about it. And in summary there is no hope forget the "aspire to Maguire" speech that politicians out of power bore us with

Look at this link below, if you see aby country with a yearly increase of above 2% which you consider a great place to live in or even start from 1.5%

They would’ve disarmed u immediately after the shootout. U think those guys are dull enough to allow u conceal weapon while they are leading u inside the bush ? grin

Did u not read the part where the guy mentioned how his vehicle was ransacked ? Even the phone he hid under the car seat they located it.

If people are allowed to carry weapons , the kidnappers will be more deadlier sef . The initial shootout will always be highly fatal. And only the few that survived will be taxed for huge ransoms after they must have disarmed them.
The major reason those guys have the guts to attack people like that is because they know there won't be any resistance...even the mere thought of the persons they're attacking being armed is enough to dissuade them. On the flip side, there are several countries where the citizens don't strap like militants yet they don't suffer same fates...fixing the problem of insecurity by democratizing gun usage is like treating the symptoms of a disease instead of the disease itself.

Real police work is dirty and many of us are not ready for it. Some of the dirty police work involves harassment of some people who might be innocent and invasion of privacy

Like with Sars

Even in America there are places where 10 people can get shot and no single person will snitch including the families of those killed

So when police harass everyone to get information it becomes another scandal

While police remain with a big targets on their backs you get more props for killing cops.

It's a tough and almost thankless job. I can't do it. I won't advice anyone to do it and big respect to anyone who chooses to
There are dirty aspects to real police work, doesn't mean the entire process of policing is dirty...and BTW, how much more dirty can policing be compared with the rot we have presently. Or are you saying Nigerian police officers are more professional than American police officers?

I watched a video on YouTube of how a woman shot a police officer.

The officer was as civil and professional as possible, giving the woman too much freedom while he was interrogating her.

What did the officer get in return? Gunshots.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zFrF8PCR08?si=tQ1N3UIE7JBCttGC
That a civil and professional interaction went bad doesn't mean there aren't way more cases where civil and professional interactions prevented things from escalating.

Nigeria has a lot of good police officers and some bad ones. American officers can also be bad if they are in the same environment and working conditions. Plus they mostly carry body cameras

How do u want police officers to put their lives on the line when there’s no guarantee their loved ones will get life insurance payout if they die in action?

Nigeria police are not motivated to the extent of facing armed gangs with automatic weapons .

Hope u remember this guy below who Jejely hid himself while the last robbery in Kogi was taking place ? grin

By police work I mean actual crime investigation.

Not carrying guns up and down.

People pay ransom in cash. By now they should be tracing that money. This is the simplest of police work, flagging cash used in transactions.

The other day we saw a starlink dish captured from boko haram. Someone bought it. Someone pays for it's subscription. This is not rocket science. Actual police work is often painstaking and tedious.

You don't have to go into the field to catch kidnappers. They leave multiple traces that can be followed

Back in the days, Coaches and Luxury buses usually travel with an armed escort to protect them from robbers

Well, it made it worse and they had to stop.

The robbers didn't have the patience to stop the bus and rob. They opened fire immediately they saw one.

The fact that you have no weapon on you gives you a higher chance to survive.
Back in the days armed robbers didn't really need their victims alive, kidnappers however do since people hardly travel with cash like before.

Yea, I wasn't referring to the individuals, more the system that mints professional police officers in the US that don't have to be anywhere as dirty as their Nigerian counterparts yet are getting the job of policing done.

First of all I'm not of that school of thought that Nigeria is too broken beyond repair. One thing is clear, this nation is being held hostage by a strong cabal who are profiting from the rot in the system and will do anything to make sure they always put their men in charge to protect their interests no matter the cost. The day Nigerians break free from these people is the day this country will begin to see restoration, it's a matter of time.

Very importantly your submission clearly shows you never believed in Tinubu, nor his ability or capacity to do anything meaningful as president. You knew the challenges of the nation where beyond him but it didn't matter to you.

The issue raised In your fifth paragraph, Peter Obi kept hammering on the urgent need to move
from Consumption to Production with a clear plan to implement and execute across all sectors expecially the Agric sector. Clear workable plans to salvage food insecurity. What we're seeing today is a clear case of no plan at all. The plan you don't have, you can't execute.

Population growth isn't new, we're not the first nation to experience population explosion and we won't be the last. It is the lack of proper planning that make these projections appear grim.

Sen Sani whether in power or not has told Tinubu the hard truth, what he must do as the father of protests and why he must not fail. Tinubu better sit up and pray to all the gods he's worshipping for ideas cos Buhari as docile and he was, was never this bad for 8yrs. He said nobody should pity him, so no excuses for him and his Renewed Hope agenda.

Mass murder? What is the one happening in Plateau and Benue called? In that kidnapping twitter thread the guy said he saw many villages abandoned, previous inhabitants killed or fled why? because there was always one side who had the gun

As shocking as it may be, there is another village going to be raided this weekend, the inhabitants probably are aware and are just like chicken waiting in the cage for their turn for slaughter

Dayo we don’t have strong gun laws, a good criminal justice system, and institutions to properly regulate what you are asking for. We can barely do the simple things right. If every Nigerian is allowed to carry guns, be rest assured we will degenerate into total anarchy.

You are just going to unleash total terror and end up complicating everything. We need to overhaul our criminal justice system, empower our police officers and stop burdening Nigerians with solving problems we elected politicians to solve in the first place.

It’s like when people say “don’t increase minimum wage because of ghost workers”. Well, how about the real workers? Whose job is it to ensure we don’t have ghost workers, the government or civil servants? The government is responsible for creating systems that ensure we root out ghost workers. We burden Nigerians with resolving way too issues.

We have had people from academia like Soludo a professor, we have had activists like Oshiomole, we have had military men, we have had career politicians, we had people who excelled in civil service like Fashola, we have had successful business men like Obi, we had people who excelled in private sector like Obaseki

which kain person we never get ruling in Nigeria and what has changed? How come all these brilliant and successful people in their careers failed spectacularly in turning the fortunes of their states around

What has it changed for the country? Do all these people belong to the cabal holding the country? The talk of cabal is like some idle people talking about Illuminati ruling the world. The problem has been since I was born, I am over 40 and I too will claim a cabal somewhere, everyone will claim a cabal somewhere but no one will point to the cabal

There is nothing anyone Obi Tinubu Atiku Obama can do to save this country, the best they can do is band aid it for some time and hope the next administration faces the fallout later whine us with sweet words

The bold is a very moot point which is invalidated by the spate of bank robberies in Nigeria in recent times . Since around 2014 to this year, we’ve seen a pattern of robbery incidents whereby armed robbers (despite knowing how banks are well guarded) carry out large scale bank robberies .

They literally lit up the nearest police police stations which are well guarded with armed officers, then proceed to sack various banks with heavy shelling. At least this has happened in Kogi state multiple times , Ekiti state multiple times, Benue state , Offa Kwara state, etc to mention a few .

The robbers are aware of the level of resistance that the security agents in the banks and even the first responders can pose and they plan well ahead for it.

That should tell u that u having a gun to fight back won’t stop the criminal , but it will only make him more vicious in his attacks . One of my bosses used to say “ U can’t predict the mind of a criminal “. U can’t sit down as a law abiding citizen and start saying maybe if u do this( like carrying a gun on u) , the criminal will not attack u.

Every society is going to have criminal elements. Research and data have shown the safest societies are those with stronger restrictions on weapons like guns.

It is the primary responsibility of the government to secure the lives and property of the citizens. The government needs to figure out how to tackle insecurity and address the criminal elements not citizens, especially in a country that can’t even properly regulate prices of commodities.

Guns have power, there is a psychology of power and control that comes with owning a gun. The law abiding citizens you are talking about will become criminals if they suddenly have access to guns, by then you have complicated the problem.

The problem is, successive Nigerian Government failed to evolve as the dynamics of crime and insecurity evolved. You said before, that was then. Our politics has evolved, our traditional systems have evolved, we have a different generation now, so we must evolve and stop being reactive. Crime is no longer “Lawrence Anini” style. We are still fighting crime in Nigeria like we are in the 90 and that is why you can compare and attribute certain crimes to a region.

This is why we conduct elections to elect people that will represent me and you. This is why the executive arm have exclusive powers to create certain systems. If everybody in Nigeria, especially in its current state is allowed access to guns na pure anarchy you Dey ask for.

In the US many people have guns and they have not become criminals. In a place like Africa where there are many unpoliced spaces what do you expect the people to live and secure them

For example the instability in the subregion caused a lot of insecurity and free guns in the region. Libya, Burkina most of our Northern neighbors are governed by guerillas or non state actors, we have thousand of miles of border with them and even if all those custom agents are born again who wont be compromised nor threatened, we need a huge amount to cover those space and prevent outsiders from coming in

In the US Southern border we see how tough it is for the greatest country in the world to secure its borders from immigrant, drugs and guns. The US budget on border alone is probably the entire budget of West Africa countries put together, Is that what we expect realistically from a a 3rd world country

All of these things are a result of government failing to find solution to some age-long problems. There’s insincerity on the part of some government agencies and security forces and it led to things going to south .

For example in the middle belt there had always been incidents of Fulani vs Some of the other major tribes like Tiv, Idoma, Junkun, Birom, Taroh, etc. There are instances where several government established reconciliatory committees are inaugurated are out in place and recommendations made at the tail end .

Most times these other tribes always feel they got the short end of the stick when the committee reports are released and even during subsequent crises they see state actors taking sides with the Fulani who seem to have people in the security services . When the people feel their absence of true social justice , they also resort to taking laws into their hands . That is what led to different ethnic groups forming their own militias leading to more proliferation of arms in that region.

In the core north , years of neglect of the largely uneducated and unemployable youth has resulted in some of them resorting to either terrorism or banditry .

These incidents u lumped up together are not one and same and handing each citizen guns won’t solve them . These guys have already attacked military bases, they’ve attacked the Nigerian Army depot, they’ve attacked an airport, train station , etc. Do u think they won’t attack private citizens with guns?

If we refuse to try and address some of the root cause of the problem but hand civilian guns, we will only be making more criminals and putting more lives in danger

The root of all these is a fight for scarce resources, there is nothing anyone can do when resources are scarce, we all will fight for it, No one will die in peace if he knows there is something out there. If we are all thirsty and your house is the only place with 25liter water, that is the day your security goes out of the window , Its either you share with us or you never sleep guarding the water, even being awake will not save you at some point

Except those driven by ideology to kill and die in the process, most people just want to survive so the killing must include an escape route for them to live otherwise their crime is just wasted

For example a Fulani man whose land has become barren due to climate change sees a fertile land of farmers with plants and tries to migrate there with his cattle

“Ori bibe ko ni ogun ori fifo”

The regions and counties you are talking about degenerated into chaos because guns got into civilian hands. Also, the US shouldn’t be compared to Nigeria. Irrespective of our gun problems in the US, we at least institutions and systems to regulate its abuse. There is a reason there is a push for stricter gun laws.

Arming citizens means the criminal elements who are well funded will have more access to the same weapons. When citizens start carrying pistols because it is what they can afford in Nigeria, criminal elements are career criminals will take it a step further by carrying Semi automated weapons. Can citizens match them?

The government should resolve the insecurity in the country and not burden citizens with the primary responsibility of securing their own lives..

Long before climate change there has always been issues between the Fulanis and the other major tribes in the Middle belt.

Thank God u mentioned Lekwot earlier today . The Zangon-Kataf crisis in Kaduna state in 1992, after the whole kangaroo trial and sentencing of the Indigenous Kataf people while the Hausa-Fulanis were made sacred cows ; did it show there was any semblance of social justice ? In what world is it fair that the Kataf people who actually defended their people were prosecuted while Hausa-Fulani people the aggressors that instigated the initial mob action were sacred cows? Is that also a climate change issue ?

See once there’s no social justice in a system , more people will embrace crime. Do u know how many number of clashes between southern and northern Kaduna that has happened since the Zangon-Kataf crisis ?

As regards the Fulani and Lands; it has been said over and over again- The world has evolved ! There is no place for open grazing in this modern world . Cattle rearing is a private business not a public enterprise . Let them purchase lands for ranches and stop holding the entire nation to ransom over their private business .

Is there an agreement that the last to leave is a fool cos I'm not understanding these exits.

At this point ; is it not high time Tinubu swallow his pride and reverse the whole Naira floating thingy?

The combined effect of subsidy removal and floating the Naira is gradually pushing investors out of the market and new investors are even reluctant to jump in. We should stop deceiving ourselves

Climate change has always been and its getting worse. You say Fulani should buy land, land from who? Will people in your village sell land to Fulani? even if you discover Mr Ajayi don sell land to Fulanis for ranch, wont the entire village chase him out?

People whose lifestyle historically do not mix are coming into contact because of survival needs

Its the same way a man will trek from Nicaragua to USA because he wont die in peace in his home country

I noticed jagaban was conspicuously missing among those you listed, did he succeed? Did Fashola fail? His excellency Peter Obi delivered on his campaign promise of education and health and the impact is undeniable today in Anambra. Go and verify.

You can't tell me since you were born, you haven't experienced good governance for once. At least I can speak for myself as a young guy, Obasanjo's 8yrs was not bad at all was it? Seeing what was endured under the brutal military regime. Yaradua's brief cameo wasn't bad either. Goodluck fumbled but nobody ever dreamed of this level of bad.

Everything took a downward spiral when this evil APC you support and defend entered power. That is by far the biggest mistake Nigeria made as a nation. The PTSD will ever be fresh. The rest is history.

As for the cabal, the reputation is in the name. Whether you believe in Illuminati or not is not my concern. Your belief or lack of it doesn't invalidate their existence. For example, during Buhari’s tenure, everyone in this nation knew about the cabal running the affairs of government at the villa, it was an open secret yet no one could point out exactly who these cabal were but their power and influence was undeniable.

Tinubu never shared his plans for Nigeria, he never debated. APC hid him from the media like Buhari. At Chatham house he delegated questions thrown at him to others to answer. He consistently misyarned at rallies. He openly mocked and made joke of data. Openly licked the microphone on camera when told to test the mic. He was never intellectually engaged or challenged. His team hurded him like palliative to avoid gaffes. Na this kind person wan save Nigeria?

So when you say there's no plan to save Nigeria, it's not a surprise at all. That's very true with APC. We've seen what they can do, Nigeria is worse than ever before. But Peter Obi and others are coming.

The bold is so far away from the reality . What do u think causes some of the fights in Places like Plataeu state ? Some of the lands Fulanis occupy today were originally belonging to the indigenous people of those areas ; some of the lands were sold to them while they were allowed to settle on others out of the goodwill of the people .

Stop making it seem as if people hated Fulanis from inception. It is the trouble they forment afterwards that made people start getting wary of allowing them to lease or own lands in their communities . There are many communities across this country including the South west, South east and South south that have enough Fulani settlers.

That is why we are talking of social justice . If u had allowed Fulani settle on ur land in the past and they later go on killing spree when a minor dispute arises , only for government and security forces to side with them ; it is only natural that u do everything possible to do without Fulani occupation in the future .
