Tohmey: This is not a Dollar fund. It's a placement where both the capital and interest are guaranteed. Alternatively, you can do a dollar fund with Norrenberger, the minimum is $550 1 Like |

bfn1: Why do I have to fund my Stanbic IBTC MMF account through another bank I.e. UBA and not Stanbic IBTC Bank. I am confused pls I need explanation. |
Re: Mutual Funds by bfn1: 7:22pm On Jun 15 |
Yemoskii:Stanbic IBTC MMF is an investment scheme of the Stanbic IBTC Asset Management Ltd (not Stanbic IBTC Bank). In the operation of MMFs, Fund Managers are mandated to appoint Trustees and Custodians that are 3rd-party independent entities to safeguard investors' funds. So, do not worry if you're paying into another account different from Stanbic IBTC Bank, it is definitely the account of the appointed Custodian for the Fund. Just ensure that whatever collection account you're funding through is what the Fund Manager has specifically indicated to you. 10 Likes |

Yemoskii: @bfn1 has given you the required explanation above. To add to that as an example, FBN Quest uses Citi for collection of their MMF instead of First Bank which is their affiliate. Also, United Capital Asset management uses Stanbic IBTC instead of UBA their affiliate bank. Those custodians and trustees are barriers put in place against to mitigate the risk of fraud and embazzlement. It is easier commit fraud if only funds are managed, warehoused and overseen by just one entity. 8 Likes |

bfn1: Thanks for the clarification however it seems Stanbic IBTC Bank was at some point also a Custodian because we were able to fund MMF accounts through it. 2 Likes |

Re: Mutual Funds by emmasoft(m): 2:53pm On Jun 16 |
Yemoskii: @bfn1 and @freeman67 you guys said it all. Well done. @Yemoskii your observation is correct some years back it was like that, the collection account was always with the affiliate bank of the fund managers, The regulator ie SEC saw some risk in that process and decided that the custodian bank must not have any affiliation with the fund manager to avoid a situation of being a judge in your case. The idea is to strengthen checks and balances in the mutual funds market and to have better corporate governance. By the way, anytime you come across a fund manager having a collection account with its affiliate bank, please run, it's a red flag. In fact, it should form part of your due diligence while trying to invest in any mutual fund with a fund manager. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Good morning everyone. I'd like to know if anyone has experience with United Capital Asset Management (Money Market Fund). I'm interested in learning more about their services and reputation. I'm curious if there's any affiliation between United Capital Asset Management and United Bank of Africa. Any insights you can share on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you |
Re: Mutual Funds by freeman67: 5:09pm On Jun 19 |
VeeInsider: Yes, United Capital Asset Management is the Asset Management wing/arm of United Bank for Africa. What do you want to know about their service and reputation. I have used them about 2 and half years now if I am not mistaken. Cant really remember the date unless I check. For the period I have used them, their services have been good. I opened the account online through the app and afterwards finished up with mails/calls where they needed clarification while verifying my details before my account was setup and the details were sent to me. Their rates have been okay when compared to others. Their customer service are responsive both via WhatsApp and email. Though I rarely call them so, I can't say much about calls. You can get same day withdrawal if your account is well/completely setup. That said, just like every other Asset management firms, you may encounter delays once in a while in them crediting your account after deposit if you don't do it according to instructions or you at the end of quarter when they are settling accounts. 2 Likes |

CatchMeIfUCanMO: Chat me up for a voice note that explained some basic things about mutual funds particularly MMF and how it works. You can also read through my past posts on this thread you will have basic understanding of MMF. Meanwhile, stanbic, SFS or Norrenberger are fund managers you can open account with. The first two links on my signature will give you access to online registration form for Stanbic and SFS. |
