Why were younger brothers usually favoured over the older ones by God? Do you think this is still happening now? Some pastors talk about the ‘ curse of the first born’ ! What’s your experience like?

God’s preference for younger siblings over older ones is a recurring theme in the Scriptures. Here are some instances:
Jacob
Jacob Over Esau:
God chose Jacob (the younger twin) over Esau (the firstborn) to inherit the blessings of Abraham. This divine revelation emphasized God’s sovereignty, prevailing over customary rules of age.

Abel
Abel Over Cain:
God accepted Abel’s offering over Cain’s, highlighting divine favor and the countercultural choice of the younger son.

Joseph, Moses, and David:
God chose Joseph (the 11th of 12 brothers) as a leader in Egypt, Moses (younger than Aaron) to lead the Israelites, and David (the youngest of 8 brothers) as king.

Gideon and Solomon:
God selected Gideon (the youngest in his family) to deliver Israel and Solomon (over older brothers) to be King.

Ephraim
Ephraim was favoured over Manasseh. When Jacob was blessing his grandkids he purposely crossed his hands and placed his right hand on Ephraim signifying that the younger son of Joseph would be greater than the older!

Why do you think there appears to be a divine preference for the younger siblings? What are your experiences? Are your younger ones more successful?

Pastors and Bible scholars, over to you!

You didn't see Jesus na firstborn. You didn't see Samuel is a firstborn. You didn't see Samson na firstborn. God looks at the heart not the position in the family. A firstborn with a good heart gets God's favor.

Joseph had Gods fear and didn't bleep that Hot woman. That's a quality the firstborn Reuben lacked - he bleeb his papa girlfriend on top his papa bed and got a curse from the papa- this had nothing to do with God.

Abel gave a sacrifice of blood ie animal. Cain gave food. But bible said without shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. Rather than kill Abel, Cain could have retried by offering what Abel offered. Only if he brought same and God reject am then we know God hate am for real

Both Jacob and Esau were young guys. Esau may have appeared nice hearted but for lack of spiritual foresight, that's what made Jacob preferred. Jacob knew something about the abrahamic convenient and how important firstborn position may be a factor. The natural firstborn lacked spiritual understanding of the grace he carried as a firstborn under this covenant - that made him a fool ready to sell-off. God would not have him bear this blessing that he never valued - it went to Jacob who valued it

It's not about position. David specifically, God said, the heart. David can sin 10,000 times but he will be remorseful, he will cry and repent if corrected. Compare that to other kings eg Saul who said to Samuel, Its alright, I have sinned but you did not honor me (first) before the people. Saul never had a remorseful heart. God didn't want to pick another king that will be like that. Did you know Saul was also a firstborn and God also picked him but rejected him later for his character

Gideon father was an idol worshipper and owns the shrine the community worships. Gideon was meditating on the miracles if God, the power of God read about in the old testament. He was wondering if Yaweh was no longer able to deliver them from external oppressors. That was why an angel was sent to him with a task to destroy his father's shrine and fight a million army with just 400 untrained men. The issue is, God only speaks to people who meditate and reflect on his word because those are the people who truly believe him. He would not send angel to Gideons brothers who are bowing to idols in their father's shrine and have never for once pondered about Yaweh

God's purpose wasn't according to birthright rather according to faith so God chooses the ones having unwavering faith to carry out His plans!

Because all the firstborn are mine; for on the day that I smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I hallowed unto me all the firstborn in Israel, both man and beast: mine shall they be...
— Numbers 3:13

God does favour the first-born above the rest.

However, the devil too has an interest in firstborn. First born males inclusive.

Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
— 1 John 3:12

Just like in the case of Cain and Abel.

So I presume firstborns need special deliverance and dedications to God to fulfill destiny.

I'm not answering your question per se...

But your post reminds of Scriptures that say, “The first shall become the last (and the last shall become the first).

It's all about complex principles of a complex God.

Hmmm. Your post is really eye-opening. God does seem to favour the younger ones. Even in the New Testament, the prodigal son was kinda favoured over the elder son. I don't think it's a curse though on firstborns. It might just have something to do with the nature and character of God that exalts the humble and puts down the proud. (Matthew 23:12; Luke 14:11; Luke 18:14) This phenomenon exists even in Greek mythology. Zeus is the youngest but He is the ruler of the gods.
