Me, I don't "call my boys there". I get off my ass and do my research with the sweat off my own brow is what I do. There's books afterall, and though much less these days, they have been my daily bread, still its far more than most get from living there not to talk of just visit I'd have thought, especially since one can't exactly visit or send ones boys to the Estates General of 1789 or the Battle of Tours/Poitiers to find out for one. Or does one not need to learn such knowledge to understand French culture, I wonder.
