What conventional capabilities do you think the Nigerian Navy should invest in?

I think USV (unmanned surface vessels), Coverttes / small missile armed ships and an additional LST.

I don't see any need for Frigates.
I would go for something that compliments the logistics of the land forces maybe 3 additional LSTs ,dedicated Helicopter carrier and plus amphibious Tanks. I think this can make Nigeria play a bigger role in regional security .

The navy needs frigates. At least one that is big enough to serve as a flagship. I always have everyday fantasies of what the Nigerian navy should have ranging from frigates to corvettes to submarines to Amphibious Assault ships and so on and so forth. But whenever I remember the navy has a short term, mid term and long term plan that it is abidding by, my mood just gets disrupted.

I use to day dream that our NN will acquire 3 Song Class submarine and 3 Kilo Class submarine
1 song and 1 Kilo class for Western Command
1 Song and 1 Kilo class for Eastern Command

Then 1 each of Song and Kilo for training of our fine officers

Then i wake up

Bold, however such a force will be considered aggressive by our neighbors.

Besides the Nigerian government doesn't have the funds to afford a dedicated helicopter carrier like Algeria.

I guess you're right, but there are reasonably sized Corvettes and Small ships we can invest in instead.

Instead of buying 4 Frigates, why don't we do 2 Frigates and 4 Corvettes?

Kenya might be making a mistake by its openly anti-Russia stance.

This war will inevitably end, enemies will go back to being friends (it's happened before when cold war ended.)

Neutrality is best.

another good subjection but let consider our close by country which depend on Nigeria navy for there maritime security and ability to projected power around Africa or even the world when needed . 2 frigate and 4 Corvette can served our need but will it served our foreign policy when required especially to our close maritime countries , in all the best thing we should do is to invest more on internal buildings of this equipment if we can achieved to produce all this even if it is a Corvette ,then all this will not be a problem

Borrowing from foreign entities.

Retired SA Army colonel Jan Breytenbach, the founding father of Special Forces in the South African military, died in the George Mediclinic on Sunday (16 June) at the age of almost 92.

Well-respected locally and internationally as a soldier’s soldier, Breytenbach was born on 14 July 1932, and is survived by his wife Rosalind, his son Richard, daughter Angela and grandchildren Christopher and Matthew.

Breytenbach was the first commanding officer of 1 Reconnaissance Commando, the first dedicated Special Forces unit in South Africa and also took charge of 32 Battalion and 44 Parachute Brigade during his military career.

To upholdimg international law, which neither isreal, usa or British give a fvck about...Russia should let ukriane join nato, also allow Ukraine to field foreign, after all they are there to keep the peace...
It easy to say someone has broken the law when u don't look at the consequences of not breaking the law. It is no news that, even before the conflict in Ukraine, the western news agencies have been positioned to portraying Russia has a threat. So Russia has no reason to sacrifice it own defence for the sake of upholding the already murdered rules International Law prohibiting inteference of any kind in the domestic affairs of members state
It is in light of this that the constitution of Nigeria( as amended) gave eberyone right to life but went further to list circumstances where such right is non existent eg self defence... It went further around section 46 to say in the interest of "defence, public healthy, safety and order that all rights in section 37,38 39 ay be trampled upon y he government..
Why are there exceptions and why do the law permit the breaking of law.. is to prevent a greater arm...
If the reverse was the case would the US wat hexico house Russian Military?
It is madness to see fault in what Russia did... The threat is imminent whether you see or not... And African Leaders especially should not even be commenting on issues like this .. what do your leaders know about territorial integrity.
The same thing is about to happen in Taiwan . And who is the cause? Let just blame china, it easier
Okay let assume Russia has done abominable, the inherent right that would have permitted the so called western saint to condemn the acts of Russia has longer been lost... To be entitled to call Russia a deviant, thrn the us and Britain must lead by example by not vetoing ways to ending isreali occupation in Gaza and the killing of innocent kids..
International law is way complex than dos don't and sanctions

African Leaders would rather Talk about Non Africa Issues than address the problem at home, well this i understand, considering we have a history of looting and sejding our money offshore... so we must protect this Countries..
John Austin during the Mordern Development of international law condemned it as having no force of law and when u sit and look at it , u will notice that it is true so far as the classical definition of intl. Law is concerned which is " as the law that governs the legal relations among states".
Though with strong advocates of intl law like JG Starke, who gave the more mordern and encompassing definition, John Austin's position no longer holds water ....
But

How many times has everyone capable not tried to break the rules of International law... up to the point of USA sanctioning ICC officials, isreal withdrawing visa to UN ofiivials., killing children hospitals and schools
If Austin was wrong when he said Intl law has no force of law the expansion of NTO further into Asia wouldnt have been possible in the first place not to talk of Russia attavking Ukriane.,
After all this fricans will join these murderers nd shout international law... African Leaders already have enough problem at home... Initially the AU was known as the OAU, and the main purpose of the OAU was to fight against colonialism and all those challenges that were present from 1950-1999. And that was why when, they perceived they had won the 90% fight against colonialism they needed to change the objective of the OAU to meet the mordern circumstances i.e the advancement of Africa, and that is why the name metamorphosised to AU with just the removal of O to marking the begining of the new Agenda, ... Rather than interfering in issues that are beyond Africa, has African Leaders acheived the objective of.the AU? No it's a failure...
Do we have peace and co-operation in Africa? No...
But u know what, we better off interfering in topics that transcends our border, our independence as continents... Should the so called western powers decide to take us back to.colinailism, can Africa defend it self..
NB:before someone mos interpret SA intervention for Palestine does not count as non African issues because it is actually... Africa have siffred colonialism and degrading treatement can clearly feel the pain of the Palestine, they palestine is different in that it has no Own Govt body to fight for it cause so ay humanitarian effort is always appreciated ... That is why Henry Dunant the father ICRC clamoured for the establishment of the International humanitarian law to come.in and protect innocent where the order which allows authority to function no longer exist.
In my opinion ( not that it matters to the leaders) the crux of discussion should be at finding a realistic end to hostilities between Russia and Ukraine so far as humanitarian purposes is concerned and rather not to engage in supporting one foreign pwoer over the other.

I dare to say that the main Ukrianian Leadership lackd common sense..
It is common sense that when ur neighbour is a mighty power, u should warm to it or better still, don't be too friendly with it enemies, it is stupidity to try to seek friendship with the enemy of a world power u share border with...
That goes against common sense and the law of nature. You may disagree, perhaps it helps when u put yourself in Russia's position, then you can advise on what cause of action you would have taken . The Ukrainians leaders should have seen the war, it was so glaring or as Aristtotle would put it self evident to the wise
