They are called classic watch and can be passed down to generations. Imagine you getting one expensive watch with limited edition and then passing it down to your grandson. How valuable it’ll be at that moment. It’s more or less like an investment.

You really know about these watches. I love wrist watches but, the ones I have easily get spoiled because I bought them around 7-10k. As I no fit do pass myself, I stopped buying anyone for now till I get money to buy beta one.

Anything you dont make good profit on the money used to purchase it is not an investment is not even as asset.

Some asset with second hand value become profitable in the long run, given that it has served you in your glory days, and gave you all you desired of it...and at the end of the day, you can sell it off and you'd still retain the value it brought you while in your possession.

Yes, people who buy quality watch enjoy the luxury that comes with it. It's like buying luxury cars and what have you. Meanwhile I also sell quality affordable watches. Non tarnish, non bleach and water resistant.

The same way some phones are expensive, even though most of buy them use them for no more than texting and calling. It's just status symbol. However, the additional costs come from:

1. sometimes high value gold or diamond is used in the design. Gold and Diamond are naturally expensive and that's factored into the cost
2. sometimes it comes from a high end fashion house, e.g. LV, Patek, etc. Luxury goods are just expensive because they are luxury
3. sometimes only very few are made. That increases demand at low supply. Ultimately driving the price up squarely based on demand
4. Sometimes, they are collector items. Collector items are typically very expensive, even if their value is actually cheap. e.g. some 1 pound coins were once worth only 1 pound. But because they have become collector items and high-value collectors want them, their value goes up.
5. Sometimes, they are custom-made. Custom-made ware are quoted at expensive price by those who make them.
