The remains of comic actor, John Okafor popularly known as Mr. Ibu has been laid to rest toady in his hometown of Amuri, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, Newspremise reports. The burial arrangements include several events leading up to the funeral. The ceremony commenced on Tuesday, June 25, with a high-profiled novelty match, followed by "Mr Ibu's Night" on Wednesday, June 26, featuring a candlelight procession and live entertainment. A Christian Wake-Keep took place on June 27 at Mr. Ibu's compound in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West. The five-day burial ceremony would be concluded on Sunday, June 30, with a Church Thanksgiving service to celebrate Mr. Ibu's life. Mr. Ibu passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024, due to cardiac arrest, as confirmed by Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria. In October 2023, Mr. Ibu revealed he was struggling with diabetes. The following month, his leg was amputated after undergoing seven surgeries. His family turned to social media to seek financial assistance for his medical bills, prompting many Nigerians and organizations to contribute funds for his treatment. However, a controversy later arose when family members accused each other of embezzling the donations from his fans.
