I remember visiting this thread when it was at page 97 around 2013 in SS2. I wrote my first JAMB 2014 in SS3 but didn't get the cut-off for medicine. Took another one in 2015, got medicine in BUK. Fast forward to today... I'm now a doctor waiting for the portal to open to start my house job. Dream, plan, work hard, and believe in yourself that it's possible.

Congrats. So much to achieve.

My part 1 MB results are out.
I'm to resit anatomy and physiology, I can't believe my eyes truly.
More than 50% of my department failed physiology.
How is this even possible but nobody wants to take up the case with school management.

I feel my medical dreams are already over.

I understand this. However, you will look back on this moment an realise this was a necessary stepping stone. Dust the books and get to work. Bigger problems are ahead. Good luck.

It’s 2024

The fact that MBBs is still a big deal makes me laugh

Like candidates still kill for this MBBs of a thing in 2024?

When tech and ground breaking innovation is the in thing now…

Lord show enlightenment to your kids

MBBS is the safest career choice you can make. You will "cash out" from the degree till you leave this earth, if you want to. I worked in tech for a while. Enjoyed the money, and the fast paced work environment. But there is just this thing about medicine. If you get it, you get it. When you get to a certain level in life, money becomes a constant. At that level, those around you will relate based on personal attainments. Well, if that is what matters.

Meanwhile, there is a "pandemic" of job losses in tech. So many techies are either laid off or can't find work.

What most people do not understand about tech is that it is somehow 'seasonal' in that when a project comes up, there will be a sudden high demand with high pay. Once the project finishes, activities slow down and the staff are laid off. Microsoft just laid off about 200 staff in the Nigeria office. What has changed in Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp or even Nairaland since they were launched to warrant maintaining the same number of staff that started the project?.

Medicine is the safest career out there any where in the world. People are being made redundant in tech industries.
And as a doctor , just aim to practice medicine in Aussie, Canada and US. Your life would never remain the same . You would out earn techies or earn at their level.

It's been a long time on this thread. Just stumbled upon it again. Came as an aspirant, finished medical school , typing as a family medicine resident doc in the UK.

Kudos to everyone

The North is not as bad as we from the South see it or are made to believe. Yes, there is insecurity in the North but truth is insecurity is in every region of the country. Even in the North the insecurities are more prominent in the outskirts.

Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto is in the heart of the city and I can tell you it is relatively peaceful - more peaceful than a lot of Southern cities.

That score is too good to throw away. Being female and young should not be a barrier. There are younger ladies here as well and trust me all she needs is to join CMDA and she would be well groomed and cultured.

The environment here makes it a bit difficult to turn wayward.

Yes, the weather is extreme - she will adapt. The road is far - surely she will cope. It is the seat of the caliphate - all she needs to do is to mind her business and she will do just fine.

However, if Sokoto is too far, then Unijos could be an option.
please between Sokoto and Maiduguri,which is farther??

Please I need advice.
I am an mbbs aspirants who scored 339 with 4B3 and 1 A1 currently running JUPEB in unilorin.
But I have an uncle telling me to pick Unilag.But I am scared due to the fact that Unilag mbbs cut off mark was around 86 in 2022,84 in 2023.
And I don't know what it might be in 2024 considering the fact that a lot of people scored 300+ this year.
Unilorin on the other hand has a very slow academic calendar to the extent that the 2023/2024 aspirants haven't been admitted.
I need advice because I don't want to waste 339 this yearπŸ™πŸ™

Wow this is such a difficult decision to make. Well,,, I will say if you want to pick a SAFE option, you should stay where you are. The grass usually look greener on the other side until you cross over and find out you are wrong. (In this context, there is a possibility of being right; but of course, it's an uncertainty). The issue with this option is that I don't know much about Uniilorin admission process and if it is fair enough to admit you on merit if you meet the jupep cut off.

UNILAG on the other hand is still a good option if we are to be logical here. The risk is higher because of their cut off.

Fingers crossed though. Let's hear what others have to say about this; especially people familiar with the admission process of both schools. I would hate for this score to go to waste. embarassed

Thanks boss but I will be using the jamb not JUPEB result because my JUPEB exam is around August, not sure if the result will be out before admission processes begin.

First of all, which state are you from?. Unilag catchment areas are the SW states of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Osun and Ekiti.

Unilag cut off for the past two sessions have been high because admissions were merged in those two sessions. The cut off mark normally ranges between 80 to 82 for merit.

For Unilag calculation:

A1 = 4.0
B2 = 3.6
B3 = 3.2
C4 = 2.8
C5 = 2.4
C6 = 2.0

(1) Your WAEC of 4B3 and 1A1 will give you 16.8/20.

(2) Your JAMB score of 339 will give you 339/8 = 42.375/50

(3) You score before PUTME = 59.175/70.

(4) Unilag PUTME is 30 questions of 30 marks.

(5) So total score will be (3) + (4)

This will give you an idea of the marks yo aim for in (4).

Unilag merged in the ratio of 60:40. 60 for previous set and 40 for current set.

You have a good JAMB score and a good WAEC computation of 16.8. The good thing about Unilag is that it publishes its cut off marks. So you can see for yourself. Imo state is not in Unilag catchment areas and also not an ELDS.

So just prepare very well for the PUTME. 30/30 is achievable in it. Just aim very high. The good thing about Unilag is that they conduct PUTME very early so that if you do not meet it, you can transfer to another university.

Forget all those calculations up there. Forget about gaining admission into so called prestigious universities.

Apply the school that will give you admission even if it means coming over to the north.

My kind advice.

Schools like unilag might waste your utme score. If I were you, I would apply BUK.

This right there is enough motivation for him to miss on gaining admission.

It is not. He is already on 59+. 25/30 in PUTME gives him 84+. His uncle that also advised him knows why he said that. As I said, Unilag does PUTME very early. So if he misses, he can then decide to do a change of University.

When my daughter told me the secondary school she wanted to go to, I told her that it was very competitive to enter. She asked me if the people there are not human beings. She passed the entrance and got into it. The same thing she told me when she wanted a particular University for Medicine and I told her it was very competitive. She is now in that University for Medicine.

Nice motivation.

Nigeria delt with me and I won't wish what happened to me on anyone else.. (the best advice I can give anyone right now and always is that they shouldn't waste years fixing their interest on a particular course/University. If your aim is MBBS and it isn't coming forth, try MLS, Rad, nursing, dent, Physio etc.

GL to the jamb guy, and Goodluck to your daughter too.

Side note: always send random cash alerts and motivational texts to your daughter, it goes a long way in boosting her motivation and keeps depression a mile away.
