Good evening all, as seen in the picture, what kind of ailment is this?... It has affected some of my birds for many days now despite the fact that I have given them med. And it is hindering the birds from eating well and also affected their sight... Any help or med that will be very effective please??

fowl pox. treatable. locally treated by rubbing locust bean on the birds. without salt preferably or use poxcure with oxytetracycline.

Thanks all for your input.. lots of differing opinions though...

UPDATE: The Chicken survived the sickness and is alive and healthy now smiley Could have sent pics, but it's night now, maybe some other time..
The only issue is that other birds are really picking on this particular bird, probably because it has been on isolation for too long, like weeks... The bird is so fearful and can't stand staying in the midst of others.. I'll just continue keeping it separate since others are always beating it

Thanks for all you shared... The method I mostly used was rubbing the affected areas with palm oil cool cool yes, palm oil and some antibiotics... Thank God it worked and the bird didn't die from the sickness even though we all at home gave up on the bird embarassed na original okuko igbo, onyili onwu grin grin grin

In Ibadan in those days they also rubbed Kerosene on it to dry it up

Dogoyaro leaves are also useful for rubbing on it and drinking with water for the Chicken

Hello.
What do you mean by coconut oil?
AbuAeesha:
its obvious this is fowl pox.
u might have used different drugs to no avail.
"the fact is rub the affected part with coconut oil and give the birds usual antibiotics" in the absence of coconut oil u palm oil but the former is more effective.

Hello.
Evening.
What do you mean by the word "pile"?
Sirseedorf:
Hello Op

I've been training chicken since 10years now, in fact right from my primary school days.
You have to remove that thing from your chicken faces, then you'll apply lime water, osan wewe. Just leave it for four days and you will come here to thank me.

Again pile the dark spot from it face, then cut a lime and use it especially the water to rub the injure spot and affected area, make sure you pile every spot on it face because the eat dip to the chicken face the more it stay long on the face, mind you it only affect their face. Make sure you act fast ......lime,lime water rub and watch your chicken for 3 to 4 days....

Ciao....

Hello.
How do you apply the palm oil pls?
lomprico:
It's a parasite. Your pen house is damp and it's not well ventilated. the thing causing it trives in such condition. And I don't think you clean the pen regularly. Medicine won't cure it, dab palm oil on the lumps.

Keep your pen house clean!

When you peel it and rub it on their face, it will kill every inch of the bacteria, though am use to using my hands to do the peel, but can you wear a nylon or glove, and you can also rub it without peeling their face, you just have to observe their face like 3 to 4 days.

The peeperish won't take long, just apply it to their face even if it touches their eyes it doesn't matter, you know they have something white cover that protects their eyes, the lime will do more good than harms to their face, better still you can chose not to apply it to their eyes, but their upper head, the side face and the lower head must be rub with the lime.

Thank you very much sir.
Sir, let me ask my last question. How many times a day will i apply the lime?

And, is it the lime itself i will press against their faces or i will first of all squeeze out the juice into a cup and apply?
