Hello everyone! I appreciate all the help and insight we get from here, God bless you all big.

I posted recently about my inability to secure a GA position and I was advised to defer my admission if I'm unable to get a sponsor.

I recently was able to secure a GA position that waives my tuition and they should send me an offer letter hopefully by Monday. Here's my question, my i20 request forms expires on Monday and I have not filled it yet as the GA position is one the major sources I'm depending on for my graduate school funding. What's the possibility of still meeting up most especially as regards securing an interview date? Georgia Tech resumes by August. Would you still advise I go on and try my luck?
I would advice you to request for an I-20 with the proof of funds you have (not the GA since you are yet to get an official letter that details what is covered).

The reason, I mentioned this is because what you would be needing is an update of your I-20 and not a new I-20. They might honor an update.

Also, it is good that you emailed them for an extension of submission. But I will go ahead and request for one now.

Hello guys, I wanted to quickly ask. Do you know if the U.S embassy still allow bank statements for SOA. Because I heard one time they weren’t allowing applicants to bring that anymore.

There was no time to stopped people from bringing bank statements as proof of funds.

Please what is the best time of day to search for dates? As we’re only allowed limited number of visits to the site, one has to maximize each opportunity. Is there a tactic to it?

Yes I did

Thank you.

It appears there's a wave of Regular Appointment cancellations and Emergency Appointment request denials through July.

Hopefully you can reschedule to a favorable date.

If anyone is able to get EA request approved this period, please do share.

Thanks for your response, but I may lose the GA and the tuition waiver if I defer to spring. Also I have defer 2 times now which is the maximum deferal for my school. This means I will even have to reapply for admission. Has anyone been in my shoes please..this is sooo frustrating

If you read through the other threads, you will realize that you can get an appointment if any is available. Keep searching and I hope you get a date soonest.

Good morning. Pls I want to ask, what are the chances of gaining admission for masters in the US if one has a master's degree here in Nigeria already. Does it increase or decrease one's chances for gaining admission for another masters. Thank you.

Your info is incomplete. Same or different fields? If different fields, your answer is obvious. Of course you can't study same thing twice on same level.

Anyways, my own question is pertaing to passports. Mine will expire in September and i have applied for renewal. But, the 10 year booklet which I applied for is jot available. I have paid SEVIS and ready to apply for visa. Should I use the passport that will expire in September? Can I change the passport (number) when the new passport comes out?

It is clearly stated that you need at least 6 months on your passport.

Your SEVIS fee payment is still valid for one year, so your new passport can be out before the next 3-4 months and you can apply. This might also mean looking at Spring 2025 resumption and beyond.

Unfortunately, you cannot change your passport number on your ustraveldocs profile, except you create another account with a different email - that in itself might be a complicated process you may want to avoid.

If you already had an appointment date before the expiration of your passport, it would have been okay to proceed, since you can just combine the two passports (visa stamped in old passport and new passport for airport validity checks). But since that's not the case, I'd suggest you get your new passport handy before proceeding to avoid unwanted stress and hiccups.

You’re more likely to be denied. I understand it would be hard to get into a masters program with a 3rd class degree. Going for another bachelors degree in same course would not sell to the Visa Officer

My first degree is in mechanical engineering

Thank you for your thoughts. Here is my transcript below.

Abuja
May 2024
Full Funding
VO: Window 10 (A pointed nose white lady)
Denied

VO: What school are you going to? I didn't hear her the first two times, and I mentioned she should please repeat herself.

F1: I am going to university of maryland, college park to pursue a Masters in Fine Art, I will be majoring in Painting. - Immediate I mentioned Master in Fine Art, she replied Okay, before I was able to stretch it to my major - Painting.
*I realised she wants direct answers*

VO: Who is covering your deficit? checking through her system.

F1: I don't have a deficit as I have been awarded a full funding - Graduate Assistantship which covers my living expenses and health insurance. *immediately she responded Okay* and checks my I-20.

VO: Have you traveled out of the country before.

F1: Yes, I have. I have been to Bleep for my work program, I have also been to Bleep for work program as well, then she cuts me by her OKAY.

VO: What is your post study plan

F1: Upon the completion of my program to I will be returning to my country to transit into the academia while I take the role of a lecturer in the department of fine Art at Bleep University, where I will be teaching university students art and its contemporary practices.
I will also be coming back to expand my studio practice back home (before I could proceed, she said OKAY)

VO: Tell me about your academic background

F1: I have a Bachelor's Degree of Arts in History, and after my graduation I enrolled for an internship under Bleep art studio where I learnt how to paint and draw because of my passion for Art. (she cuts me Okay). Then you are not qualified for this student visa at this moment.

Notes: She asked a question after the first one which I cannot remember. But I stuttered at first, before gaining my balance. My response was tying what the degree will do for me back home. I remember I talked about taking a lecturing position.

Maybe I was anxious at first, I don't know. But I understand I answered every question.

I don't think it was your fault to be honest. I was denied yesterday after she asked four questions. Why this course. How are you paying. Have you traveled before? Any relatives in the US? Next thing, you do not qualify.

There was a time late last year and early this year applicants weren’t allowed to go in with their bank statements. The officers who were checking applicants documents were the one stopping people from going in with their SOA. I had 3 friends who experienced that. I don’t know why they did that because it hasn’t been a thing for many years now. That’s why I am still asking if maybe anyone has experienced that recently. I’m asking for a relative.

Hey 🤠

@osadestiny

1. All military personnel worldwide undergoes trainings and refresher courses with or without a looming war. Same way all serious students in all levels goes to classes with pen and books regardless of time tables.

2. Dont believe in that fallacy. The only physical evidence of POF (Proof of Funds) is your financial or bank statements or scholarship award letter or affidafit of support. Consular officers may decide to not ask of it in the next 100 years but the day he or she ask of it and you are looking like a Dundee your visa application would automatically be rejected because you would be standing in front of the consular as an irresponsible applicant.

3. Forget what is happening or what has happened . Financial evidence is a requirement for B1-B2 and F1-VISA applications.

Best Wishes 🙏

Many schools conduct rolling admissions year round. You can apply as soon as the schools allow. Check your intended school(s) to see their admission application timeline.

Some schools accept applications as early as July to give you time to sort out required documentation and attend your visa interview on time.

I have a B2 Visa. Is it advisable to travel with it to the school and sort out F`1 there?

Not advisable unless you have a very cogent reason why you came in on B2 and decided to switch to F1.

Try to loop the international office into the current situation so they understand the delay is because of the change and you would want to know if there is any deficit before you fill up the form.

As for date, it isn't too late as you might be fortunate to get a date for interview or you could request and EA and hope you are approved.

Hello,

My F1 visa was denied last month even with a full funding with no deficit. I am reapplying again and wondering if I'm being asked - what has changed? What is a reasonable response to give.

As far as I'm concerned, nothing has changed in my profile.

Try read up some past post of people who were denied and went within a few days and were approved. A good one I can remember is that of Imperioux in Part 3 around December of 2011.

Goodevening All,

Thanks for the reply I always get here.

Please oo,I stated the last time that my husband has been trying to create account in order to book a date, and he wasn't succeeding,he wrote to the UStravels support, they got back to him today telling him that he has an already existing account with them, they sent the Email address and the IUD number.

Meanwhile he has never created any account with them and he doesn't have that Email address they sent to him, which bears his three names.Although before he got an admission,he wanted to process for B1/B2 for a conference with an agent they conference organizers directed him to.

Now the agent said she didn't create any account, and my hubby doesn't have such an Email used in creating the account and doesn't have an access to it.

Please what can we do to address the issue to avoid creating multiple accounts, and also correct it? We don't want any thing that will jeopardize his record.

Thanks, please try as matter of urgency.

The good news is you don't need any documents from your Uni anymore. With your money and a good connect you can get a new passport within a week and max of 2 weeks. I had similar experience with you but now I have an interview date after requesting to an EA. Try to use your money to get a new passport ASAP. Pay your MRV with the new passport, pay your Sevis too and request an EA immediately. ALL these actually depends on your resumption date though. ALL the best.
