I suspect that they also appealed to Ordega not to go live. |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by lovewins: 6:09pm On Jul 02 |
naptu2: Ordega was live yesterday with David Doherty. It didn't take too long though. I think she was circumspect and just dispelled the rumour, didn't do all of the funny things Onome is doing now. |

Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by lovewins: 6:34pm On Jul 02 |
naptu2: I don't necessarily agree with your framing. Onome was criticized after he decision not to resign from the national team immediately after the World cup. Many people (myself inclusive) while we didn't necessarily think she made the world cup list on merit could understand her inclusion as we felt that was the right way to honour her contribution of many years to the team. It was just the best way for her to bow out. When she however hinted on her continuing with the team many criticized. Criticisms aren't outside the borderline of acceptable speech. Of course I acknowledge a few persons directed hate towards her, it comes with the territory (social media) but the vast majority of people criticised her. When she stopped making the team it largely stopped too. It is why I asked if the article mentioned her cause I felt she's intentionally inserting herself into the conversation, that's before you drew my attention to those trolling her on social media. So no, Onome wasn't under attack. She was criticized. |

Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by naptu2: 7:52pm On Jul 02 |
lovewins: Comments about her appearance, her age (not related to football), insults, etc are not criticism, they are personal attacks and in fact, bullying. Most Super Falcons players do not announce their resignation from the national team, they just stop being called up, so that is not an issue |

Deltamani:That lady that scored a hattrick against Costa Rica last year. Where is she? |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by lovewins: 9:14pm On Jul 02 |
naptu2: Now you're inferring things I never said. I already acknowledged that there were personal attacks and shouldn't be condone. My argument however is that those make up a small portion of the conversation. Most of what she received was criticism and those are valid. Desire announced her resignation though, she should have taken a cue from that. |

naptu2: The behavior by some fans towards Onome has been distasteful. I have no issue with not wanting her on the team but to start bullying her over her choice to not retire is madness. Now u have the media making up stories just to taint any chance she might have. So I think she has the right to voice any displeasure she has. I see people are trying to make the issue about other things she said in her live, that is just moving the goalpost and nothing else. |

PORTLAND THORNS FC PERMANENTLY ACQUIRE DEFENDER NICOLE PAYNE Portland Thorns FC and Paris Saint-Germain, have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of defender Nicole Payne for an undisclosed fee. Additionally, Payne has signed a new contract with the Club, keeping the Nigeria Women’s National Team outside back in Portland through the 2025 season. “We are thrilled to be bringing in Nicole on a permanent basis, she has been a wonderful addition to our team and our Club,” General Manager and President of Soccer Operations Karina LeBlanc said.” Nicole has brought a level of competition to our outside back group which has helped raise the bar for all our defenders. We look forward to seeing how she will continue to impact our club going forward.” Payne, 23, first joined the Thorns on loan from the French side in February of this year. Since joining the Club Payne has appeared in nine matches for the Thorns, six of them starts. Of the six matches Payne has started, the Thorns have won three of them, earning two clean sheets throughout said matches. The defender joined Paris Saint-Germain in July of 2023, and appeared in two matches for the “Rouge et Bleu.” Payne earned her first start on January 20, of this year, helping the team to an 8-1 victory over FC Girondins de Bordeaux. Before making the jump overseas, Payne played collegiately for University of Southern California where she scored three goals in 16 matches, 15 of which were starts. Before becoming a Trojan, she spent three years at West Virginia University where she recorded four goals and three assists in 53 matches, while making two NCAA Tournament appearances.

lovewins: 1) She recieved a lot of personal attacks and that caused her to close her comments section several times. Not everyone can deal with those attacks. Victor Osimhen's rants were not caused directly by the false articles that were written, but by insults from people who came to his social media pages to attack him. I saw the personal attacks against Onome Ebi myself. Not everybody can handle lies told about them. You saw the headline that Deltamani shared, where they wrote that she challenged Randy, did she really challenge Randy or was she challenging the rumour mongers and false articles?? 2) Rita Chikwelu, Faith Ikidi, Evelyn Nwabuoku, etc have not announced their retirement from the national team. They simply stopped being picked. |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by naptu2: 3:13am On Jul 03 |
I was going to write this before I saw Onome's post. With each passing minute I am convinced that the story is completely fake. Onome Ebi holds a record and she wrote about her dream of extending that record (as is her right). People complained and some attacked her, but I said that she has the right to dream, what matters is what the officials do and the officials actually stopped calling her up. She also stopped talking about the record and focused on her club career, yet people continue to attack her. She has not posted about the record or playing for the Falcons in a long time, yet people continue to bash her. Someone came up with a story and people did not bother to confirm if the story is true, they immediately started bashing her and Ordega. These people are human and there is a limit to what they can take. Randy Waldrum blocked Nigerian journalists because of things like this and he is older than the players. Now I can bet my kidney that the story is entirely false, yet people take pleasure in insulting her, why? Anyway, this is her latest post.

Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by lovewins: 3:26am On Jul 03 |
naptu2: 1. Again, no one is denying that she received personal attacks and they stand condemned. The point however is that the bast majority of the commentary were criticism. There was a time on this thread where Onome dominated the conversation. After she stopped appearing on the list it stopped. 2. I used Desire because she's the most recent example. She showed us how it should be done. Whether or not any other person emulates that is up to them. 1 Like |

lovewins: 1) To the best of my knowledge Onome Ebi is not on Nairaland and is not reacting to comments on Nairaland. She is reacting to comments directly against her on her social media pages. I saw those comments and her reactions. 2) Desire Oparanozie is an exception, not the norm. |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by lovewins: 3:39am On Jul 03 |
naptu2: The bolded isn't true. You'll know this if you follow her on Instagram. Onome frequently posts cryptic messages on her Instagram story about her being iced out of the team. Deltamani can confirm this, I think he even posted some of them here. She does this from time to time and of course people see this. It's also funny that Onome seem to be rewriting history. Like you rightly affirmed, it is her right to dream but she should at least not insult our intelligence and own up to it with her full chest. One of the first questions she was asked after the world cup was her retirement but she said she was looking forward to attending the next world cup. Many were rightly outraged as she seemed to be more interested in breaking a record that putting the interest of the team first. If she for instance had a plan to bow out after this Olympics like she's now implying, believe me some people will have no issues with it. She left it open ended and gave the "you can do nothing about it" attitude. This became a non issue when she stopped being invited. Finally, can you post a link to a story where her name was mentioned. I don't mean twitter, I mean a news report. The 2 reports I've read never had her name in it. Save for the twitter posts you uploaded days ago (which aren't the story) I don't think I've seen any. These are just my thoughts, I do not condone attacks in her person and those who do stand condemned |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by lovewins: 3:49am On Jul 03 |
naptu2: Yes not the norm (even though Stella Mbachu also announced retirement). Point is it's an example worth emulating. |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by naptu2: 3:57am On Jul 03 |
lovewins: 1) What you call cryptic messages are responses to attacks. She did it again in the post that I shared screenshots of. People keep attacking her, including insults and that's her way of getting back at the attackers. In this case she wrote that she was Super Falcons captain. 2) Do you seriously believe that Onome Ebi will play at the next World Cup in any circumstance? Like seriously?? Like I said before, that's just her dream, not reality, no official or coach will take her to the next world cup and stories that she will achieve it through influence are just nonsense. 3) I actually shared some of those articles in the screenshots I posted earlier. Sam Audu is a journalist from Score Nigeria. That was the outlet that published the Osimhen story before other outlets copied it and I strongly suspect that they are behind the latest stories. Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by naptu2: 4:03am On Jul 03 |
But as I said before, it's not even about those articles. People went to attack her after they read the articles and she is responding to the attacks. It's the same thing with Osimhen, he responded days after the articles and he responded because he was being attacked on social media by people who read the articles. |

At last, I have been partially unbanned. There is a similar controversy among Brazilian fans. Geyse was not picked to be a member of the Brazilian team to the Olympics. She posted a TikTok video of all her medals and trophies. I do not understand the lyrics of the song in the video but some Brazilian fans say that it is an insult. However some fans say it was posted before the team list was released. https://x.com/alegrettee/status/1808250881869337023?t=qKcMoM248S7ZrhDlM2rr9Q&s=19

Our players, both Male and female need maturity. The way Sadiq Umar responded to the rumours after he was dropped from AFCON is the way a thorough bred professional should always handle rumours. No calling anybody out. Smart diplomacy. Onome and Ordega didn't need the Twitter lives and calling on God to curse out. A professional simple statement to disregard hearsay. State callup is realistically unlikely, but wouldn't mind if it came as any patriotic citizen would, but wish the team and coaching staff well above all things. Simple. 2 Likes 1 Share |

One question I would like to ask is that, Why always Onome? Why are the like of Faith Ikidi, Rita Chikwelu, Ngozi Ebere and even Ngozi Okobi not getting caught in dramas like this? I don't condone the personal attacks on Onome but I want to believe she is old and matured enough to handle drama and keep herself away from the media. Why always her? If she is frequently in the news for one reason or the other, she should check herself. There is no smoke without fire. The bloggers must have caught on to something for them to write such article. Although, I won't deny that they may have added their own spice here and there. Why is there a delay in releasing the Olympic list? I'm sure Randy must have submitted the list to NFF. 2 Likes |

ekehopp2:You are absolutely right. Let me share another example here. Read below. Declan rice on James McClean saying he’s ‘overrated’: “Do you know what? I played with James for Ireland for three games and I got on with him really well. I am not going to sit here and slag him off. I thought he was a really top guy. When I left Ireland to come to England, I heard a few things he was obviously not happy about. He made comments a few years ago. “It is what it is. I am not going to sit here and say anything about him. He’s had a great career himself – I think he is coming to the end of his career now and he’s got over a hundred caps for Ireland. “It would be easy for me to sit here and say something back to him but, like I said, we are at opposite ends of our careers now – he’s 35 and I’m 25. “I’ve known him, I’ve played with him, he’s entitled to his opinion and I’ve had to fight a load of those opinions from other people before.” This is classy from rice . 1 Like |
