Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Deltamani: 3:11pm On Jul 03 |
isan: Macleans is a Goalscorer, she brings what a natural no.9 will bring to any team..! We have been lacking that fire power upfront.. Randy who included her knows what he’s doing…! 1 Like |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Deltamani: 3:19pm On Jul 03 |
daveP: I think this is the only aspect Randy got it Wrong, we needed a good crosser among the flank players upfront, Kanu and Ajibade doesn’t give that. If Rinsola was there it would have been better because he picked Macleans and Ihezuo who are also very good in the Air and can also feed from good crosses like Oshoala. Kanu again has a nagging Knee injury which Racing Louisville has been managing well. She won’t play 90minutes for sure, Maybe Randy has plan for Esther and Ihezuo to play from the flank.. Esther can also cross very well from the Left flank too but her style of play is very deceptive. |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Deltamani: 3:20pm On Jul 03 |
daveP: But wait , Iffy just recovered after months of being out with her Ankle injury, Rinsola have been active from start of the season to the end .. She should have made the team ahead of Onumonu who just came back.. |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 3:23pm On Jul 03 |
isan: That's my pain. Her omission. Girl know how to beat fullbacks and cross clean accurate crosses that either of Ihezuo and Macleans will need from wingers in this tournament. All the other crosser of the ball cross like principal cup amateurs. It is that bad and it has been ongoing for ages. OYO for whoever still no wan admit say we need good crossers after watching all the crosses in Falcons matches in last 4years. 1 Like |

Osasu Obayiuwana made this claim on Twitter: Since August 2023, when the @NGSuper_Falcons were at the #FIFAWWC, they have not played ONE friendly game. But for the qualifying games for the @Olympics, they would have had no games at all. With World Champions #Spain, #Brazil and former #WWC champs Japan in their group, that’s deeply worrying. My response: This information is not totally true Sir. Yes no friendlies but 8 matches in all since the WorldCup in August 2023. Made up of Olympic and WAFCON Qualifiers. It would have been 10 save for São Tomé and PrÃncipe early withdrawal from the WAFCON. 8 matches in 11 months is actually not too bad. 25 October 2023, Ethiopia 1–1 Nigeria Olympics 31 October 2023, Nigeria 4–0 Ethiopia Olympics 30 November 2023, Nigeria 5–0 Cape Verde WAFCON 5 December 2023, Cape Verde 1–2 Nigeria WAFCON 23 February 2024 Cameroon 0–0 Nigeria Olympics 26 February 2024, Nigeria 1–0 Cameroon Olympics 5 April 2024, Nigeria 1–0 South Africa Olympics 9 April 2024, South Africa 0–0 Nigeria Olympics |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 3:26pm On Jul 03 |
Deltamani: Exactly my point. Excellent crosser+two powerful aerial threats in the box=goals Yet alll of this skipped their nervy and controversial drafting. E pain me die. I don't even expect Esther to take option of crossing over take-ons. That babe will rather dribble past than be scouting box, looking for who to cross to 1 Like |

ekehopp2: Did the ONE friendly game part skip you atall? It has been all qualifiers. |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Deltamani: 3:43pm On Jul 03 |
daveP: Except there’s changes, report have it that they will play 1 of the following opponents.. France, Canada, Colombia and New Zealand before the Olympics.. |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 3:58pm On Jul 03 |
Deltamani: We so underwhelming with preparation despite the 16years absence. It's annoying. We played like 5 for WWC but 1 is what they plan for Olympics with such manner of opponents? What's Canada doing there sef? 😆😆😆 2 Likes |

Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by PDPGuy: 4:48pm On Jul 03 |
Deltamani: Maybe Waldrum is relying on the fullbacks to provide the width. But like almost everyone here, I’m kinda mystified as to why Babajide was omitted |

Deltamani: Explain that of Rinsola Babajide please |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by mostob(m): 5:41pm On Jul 03 |
I'm so happy for Macleans. It is kinda strange how she got to make the list ahead of Ify. Rinsola has not really integrated with the team to be considered and that's solely Randy's fault. |

Deltamani:I also think it should have been Rinsola for Kanu because Ihezuo already offers much of what Kanu can offer. |

Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by lovewins: 6:53pm On Jul 03 |
mostob: I sincerely do not think Randy fancies Rinsola. He's had a few opportunities to use her and he didn't. So while he largely went with what was familiar like you affirmed in your later post, familiarity isn't the reason Maclean made it. 1 Like |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by lovewins: 6:57pm On Jul 03 |
PDPGuy: I agree. I think he'll play a 3-5-2. Randy as a coach places premium on defence, and with the roster he has he may just play 5 at the back. We'll wait to see how this will all work out. 1 Like |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by mostob(m): 7:09pm On Jul 03 |
lovewins:Yea, you are right. I forgot to add that Rinsola faces stiffer competition. We really needed a striker badly and I think that worked in Maclean's favour. |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Deltamani: 7:20pm On Jul 03 |
lovewins: You forgot so soon that he has been with Macleans before at the last WAFCON and also invited her for one of the friendly game in USA but she didn’t turn up! Again the Russian League games is one of the easiest to access. I be he has been following up with her game and there’s no way Randy will just include her with having some trust and use of her.. Again Macleans said she and Randy has been in Contact regularly… |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Deltamani: 7:26pm On Jul 03 |
lovewins: Don’t think Randy will opt for 3CB at the back… Okeke is already there to play Left back, Nicole Payne will definitely alternate as a fullback, I don’t see her starting ahead of Alozie and Okeke yet.. Randy always plays with Double pivot midfield, and the two are always defensively Strong too.. Again Randy might give us something different from what we saw at the World Cup. |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by lovewins: 7:38pm On Jul 03 |
Deltamani: And she played limited minutes in all of these encounters and like you rightly said she didn't impress. That is far from being familiar. |

Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by lovewins: 7:43pm On Jul 03 |
Deltamani: So what stops Randy from playing Ohale, Blessing and Okeke at the back? Then Payne and Alozie as wing backs. Uchiebe and Ayinde as double pivot then Debbie, Payne and Rash to complete the 5 Asisat and either of Ihezuo/Macleans as forwards. Alternatively, Asisat starts from the bench and you have Joe in the middle and Rash moves forward. We don't have the luxury of wingers. Kanu is battling fitness, same as Demehin. This gives Randy the best protection he can get. Playing 4 at the back is too much exposure. |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Deltamani: 7:47pm On Jul 03 |
lovewins: You’re sounding as if he didn’t use 4 Defenders at the World Cup and again don’t forget how strong and dominant our double pivots are… Brazil and Japan game should be a must win…Against Spain a draw is possible.! |
