Nope, and simply because I know little about Nigerian issues, causes, politics etc apart from what I hear from other people or read online like on this forum.

I may sometimes join in discussions but it's difficult to contribute when I don't have many facts or first hand experience. Personally I'd like the opportunity to do something tangible like sponsoring someone in genuine need, such as a child's education, rather than blabbing on about topics I know nought about.

I imagine that I would be more vocal/passionate/concerned about a place I had lived all my life, even if I moved away, which is why I was curious.

Have you never lived in Nigeria then? Not that it matters. You are still a Nigerian and can take up causes in Nigeria. I don't think the Foreign husbands of Nigerian women will turn their noses up at a campaign in their favour now, do you?

Starmer described the Working Class in one of the interviews as people that live from pay-check to pay-check without any savings. By inference the rest of us are wealthy and he is coming for us

P.S I have already voted for the Conservatives. Wasted vote maybe but better the devil you know.

Not at all.

In a Parliamentary system of government (never mind the ludicrous First-past-the-post) system, your vote was not wasted, at all. Especially if the Conservative Parliamentary candidate you voted for, wins. That is the most important.

Unless you live in Holborn & St Pancras on London, or Richmond (Yorkshire) or Clacton, you are not voting for Keir Starmer or Rishi Sunak or Nigel Farage respectively.

Is anyone else sort of hiding their face in both hands and peering in between their fingers at the goings on in France and US?

What if Marine Le Pen wins? I understand why macron called the elections but if brexit taught me anything,it's never call people's bluff. You ll always lose to the populists especially if they are racist and anti-immigration.
France and Germany are the pillars of the EU.what will become of the EU?

What in the world were those 6 US supreme court judges thinking?
Presidents are not kings and should not have immunity. They just validated an argument agent orange pulled out of his fundament.
Can Biden fight this election?

The only consolation is the centrist government we hope to vote in on Thursday .
Andrew Marr thinks that with the rest of Europe voting in freaking fascists, we will see an influx of business and cash as the only sane country in the mad mix.
That's my glimmer of hope.

I went to uni with Lewis. Same college. He's a good lad. Nice guy IRL. Very genuine.

Very strange to watch him be so popular/prevalent.

It is ridiculous to suggest that you need to have lived in a country inorder to care about its issues and seek to improve it.
I can think of dozens of campaigners who are doing exactly this.

Your time may be better spent doing this,I suggest, than making this rather frivolous point.

I have decided to make this UK my home. I think it is/was the right decision. I have gotten opportunities that I could only have dreamt of, in my own country. Where Adanna refused to marry me. Not because I am an alien, not because I was Hausa or Yoruba. Not because I was a bad lover or not a good husband material.
Although I am/was Igbo. From Imo state. Adanna wasn’t allowed to marry me, because I am/was an Mbise man.

I believe the UK will experience ‘Change’ on Thursday.

I am however really afraid that the ‘Change’ being promised has not some, but ALL the hallmarks of the Buhari/Osinbajo APC Nigeria 2014/2015 Change.

As Nigerians in the UK, all we can do is wish for the best. But, I will implore all to manage our expectations, keep working hard and keep pressing on. But, eldorado is not going to come on Friday morning. Selah.

grin The highlighted made me smile. Took me back to reading African poetry/short stories in secondary school.. nice one

Tbh I seem to care more about its issues than you do. It started off as a curious question but you turned it into a battle point.

Unless he's able to convince the public that he is not as frail as his debate performance suggested....it's not looking good. His biggest opponent at this point is not Trump, but the sofa. I.e. many of his supporters would rather not vote at all.

Best to prepare yourself.

I am in Clacton at the moment, and I am really concerned about the way Reform is conducting their campaign. They are the loudest, but they only seem to talk about immigration. To them, immigration is the sole reason for all the issues in the UK. 🙄🙄

There is nothing left for (Reform UK) to dwell on but the usual story (immigration). Hope he wins Clacton for a start if not na Yawa for the party.

I know but in 2020 he was not seen while Trump was holding rallies even with COVID killing thousands, Trump used all government resources but still lost.

My friend… Remain Inside. You ain’t going nowhere.. you ain’t going Outside.

By this time on Friday, there is every likelihood that even the perks you are ‘enjoying’ Inside will be taken away, or further reduced.

When you hear Oga Keir Starmer deliberately muddy the waters about what tax increases to expect, you think Rachel Reeves isn’t using corner eye 👁️ eye to look at Outside gigs?

Bro. Just be ready to pay a little more in taxes from your Inside gig. Afterall, the wealthy on society (like you) must be willing to pay their fair share of taxes.

PS:
I take my definition of ‘Wealthy’ from the last BBC Question Time debate, where the leader of one of the parties (not conservatives) stated the threshold for high earners as 50,000 per annum (before tax).

On a lighter note, if you see any of them Outside gigs, Biko, holla at me. Me sef dey find.
Lol I dey inside but I want to add outside to my inside and expand my earnings. Come tomorrow, I’m voting conservative because I don’t understand how Labour is moving.

Outside roles have become rare especially in FS, so extremely competitive. It's also not as lucrative as it used to be due to changes in the tax rules.

However some inside roles can be converted to outside IR35 if a strong case can be made that it meets the criteria such as working autonomously with very limited management input or direction. However HMRC are very strict, a few broadcasters have had to go to court on this issue.

Easier route might be to vote for Reform who have pledged to scrap IR35 lol
God forbid I vote for reform. Lol. I’m sticking to Rishi and his Sunak. But yes, getting an outside IR35 gig has been hard, my recruiter told me that they go as fast as they come so it’s first come, first serve. I only get calls for inside IR35 jobs, and I’m not going to risk losing my stable income for a contract role.

Lol....but Rishi won't stick to you oh (or anyone in the UK). That man will be on one of the first jets to California after he loses the election. Perhaps even a same day flight if he loses his seat as some polls suggest 😂

Yes I agree, contracting is not for the faint hearted esp in the current climate. But if the role is long dated/open to extend and has a very decent day rate, it can be well worth the risk especially if the other half has a perm, stable job.

Hmm, 2020 Biden came across strong and passionate about restoring America. Trump lost a lot of popularity due to how he handled COVID and was blamed for the disproportionately high number of deaths in the US. He dismissed COVID as just a cold and then quickly hopped on Air Force One to the best hospital and medics when he caught it🙄

Sadly 2024 Biden currently doesn't inspire confidence that he won't hand over power (to phrase it sensitively) to Harris in the 1st year and most Americans don't want President Harris.

If the polls are to be believed then the young people in the UK appear to be following a similar trend as their European counterparts who are increasingly turning to the right.

Sorry I meant to say 2020,

Polls got it completely wrong in 2016 as Hilary was leading in every possible poll but ended up losing .

Biden has never been Obama interns of charisma but still gets the job done
