The Federal Government on Thursday began the reconstruction and expansion of the Sango, Ota/Idiroko Expressway.

Several buildings marked for demolition are currently being pulled down to pave the way for the expansion of the deplorable 64-kilometre Ota-Idiroko Road.

A source living in the area told our correspondent in a WhatsApp chat that landlords and tenants whose buildings were marked for demolition were helpless when the demolition started.

“That is what is happening now at Oju-ore, Ota towards the border. Most buildings are going down from the Oju-Ore to Owode-Atan to the Idiroko border. The Federal Government has started the expansion and reconstruction of the road,” the source told our correspondent.

The PUNCH reports that the National Association of Ogun State Students on Monday appealed to the Federal Government to take urgent steps towards reconstructing the completely collapsed Lagos-Sango Ota-Abeokuta expressway.

The students particularly called on the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, to urgently activate all necessary machinery towards ensuring that his promised Federal Government’s intervention in rehabilitating the expressway materialised.

The National President of NAOSS, Kehinde Thomas, made this call on Monday in a statement made available to journalists in the state.

Lagos-Sango Ota-Abeokuta expressway.
If you can drive through this road then you and your car are legends. It has been abandoned since the tenure of PDP's Pa Obasanjo. President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will fix it.

Its gonna reduce the frequency of accident happening on that highway, especially when drivers would have to use a one-way lane

Remember Atan-Ado-Odo road too, repairing that ancient road will help reduce food and produce price as farmers in that corridor will surely be able to reach Lusada, Oja Ota with their produce on time, making available foodstuff and agro-allied products in the market just as you have it at Oke-Odo and Ketu.

Let the government open up this part of the country and others like it to cushion the effect of inflation going on around Lagos and its environs, as well as other places in Nigeria.

Not a huge fan of Bola Tinubu but the above is true.

Obasanjo didn't make good use of his tenure. Most of the issues in Nigeria now were baby issues back then... Very easy to solve, but Baba loves to take the credit, just like Tinubu likes to take the credit for what Fashola did in Lagos...

They should start from Abule tailor-ijaye-meiran inward Ogun state. That road may be the most economically viable road in the whole of South West when completed.

the road is presently in a state of disrepair but the report says tinubu is expanding idiroko road and the major road that leads to idiroko road is bad.

what is the wisdom in that?

the idiroko road that is being expanded is off the Lagos-Sango Ota-Abeokuta expressway which is presently unmotorable.

what is the wisdom in not fixing the bad Lagos-Sango Ota-Abeokuta expressway and going to expand idiroko road that is still motorable?

If honourable Minister Umahi can fix this road, then he truly means business. I hope it’s repaired by competent contractors and finished on time.
