the people who could have advised him were probably against his taking a second wife in the first place. so it is the 'it is your islamic right' geng who were advising him.

ironically, it appears that Islamic polygamy may be largely limited to Africa.

This is exactly the same thought I have. When u have group of friends and somehow almost everyone amongst them agree u are the most knowledgeable/have the superior intellect above others, u will always have to deal with that burden.

Almost every intelligent person in this part of the world faces that challenge. U will just be surrounded with a lot of "Yes men"

If u are the only person who can talk politics, finance, history, a little bit of science, sports, religion and academics etc.... U will be surprised at how only a handful of ur friends will be willing to advise u against a decision u are convinced on taking. They will believe u have everything figured out and will support ur decision .

Been listening to some WW1 history, and I dunno if it's a stretch to say if Britain was a neighboring country like say Cameroon or Ghana, their WW1 military force would defeat the Nigerian military force of 2024.

https://www.nairaland.com/8145186/cng-40-cheaper-than-petrol

The use of Compressed Natural Gas in automobiles is 40 per cent cheaper than using Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited announced on Thursday.

NNPC also announced that 100 CNG stations would be functional nationwide in 12 months, as it simultaneously inaugurated 11 CNG stations across various locations in Abuja and Lagos on Thursday.

12 months grin grin grin grin grin

not this NNPC. they are a govt bureaucracy through and through.

that depends. first of all ww1 was all about trench warfare. warfare today is all about urban warfare. a force from ww1 would be operating ww1 tactics in the modern age. they would also not have access to air support and real time communications and radar, and drones and satellite images etal.

what they have that the Nigerian military does not have is unit cohesion, discipline, drive and morale.

if that would be enough to defeat a technically superior military force in a war [ not a few battles] i cant say

They didn't even have planes dropping bombs in WW1, they used to use slow moving gas filled balloons (forgot the name of that aircraft)

PRESS RELEASE: UPDATE ON SURAJUDEEN OYETUNJI OYEWALE’S CASE

In response to the recent case involving Surajudeen Oyetunji Oyewale, who publicly admitted to committing domestic violence, addressing this matter was crucial due to public interest. This case was unique as it stemmed not from external allegations but from Mr. Oyewale’s own admission on social media via his social media Account (@SirJarus).

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, in line with its statutory mandate, acted on Mr. Oyewale’s admission and referred the case to the Commissioner of Police (Gender Desk Department), for investigation and the case was subsequently charged to Court (Court 5, Ogba Magistrate Court).

Mr. Oyewale was charged on two counts. Count l: Assault against his spouse.
Count ll: Conduct Likely to Cause Breach of Peace.

During court proceedings, his spouse, the alleged survivor denied all allegations of domestic violence against her and requested for the case to be withdrawn against her husband.

In the ruling, Magistrate Owolabi ruled, “I shall strike out these charges on the following conditions:”

•The defendant shall put down his social media blog for one month.
•The defendant shall attend counseling sessions at the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, and the agency will provide a report to the court.

The matter was adjourned to 30th of September 2024 for compliance with the agency’s report.

We extend our appreciation to the Lagos State Police Command for their swift response as well as to everyone that brought this case to our attention.

We use this medium to reiterate the Lagos State Government’s commitment to providing support and resources to survivors, ensuring their voices are heard, and advocating for justice in all cases of domestic and sexual violence.

If you or anyone you know is experiencing domestic or sexual violence, please do not hesitate to reach out to us on our toll-free line at 08000-333-333/ 0813-796-0048.

We are here to help.

I guess just as polygamy is the right of the devout muslim, lying is also another right

This is the cherry picking of religion that everyone engages in while claiming piety

It is what it is.

A Muslim lawyer advised his Muslim client to lie before the court. Maybe they did not give them Quran to swear on, or maybe like the case of senator maina (I think) no one had ablution at the time)

It only became entrenched when all the belligerents realised the devastative power of the instruments of death that Europeans had been cooking post the Napoleonic wars.

Light Machine Guns, heavy duty artillery and tactics (e.g the creeping barrage), chemical warfare(mustard gas), Flame throwers, Armored Tanks, Submarines and of course Airplane bombings ALL had their debut in WW1.

The German boys were sent out by Kaiser Wilhelm with a message that the war would only last 8 weeks. The vast majority of the boys from each country signed up thinking it was just going to be a small war where they would broadly shoot in each other's directions, and then go home.

Being confronted with the advances in weapon technology shattered that illusion though, at Verdun, and at the Somme, and forced the belligerents to engage in trench warfare on the western front.

Flint1 to answer your question, the British fighting force of from the great war would annihilate Nigeria's 2024 army today in open conventional warfare in the WW1 theatres.

I still give the 1914 Brits the edge in the common urban theatres of modern warfare primarily based on their artillery and sheer amounts of ordinance that current Nigeria doesn't have a hope in matching. However it would be a lot closer. Those 1st gen tanks were unreliable back then and a liability in the close quarter fighting of urban battle grounds.

The British World War 1 era militray cannot defeat naija's 2024 Military. We will trash them. They have neither the men nor the hardware to defeat us. All the soldiers they conscripted from their colonies like Nigeria, Ghana, etc were part of their military strength na

I'd be very surprised if Nigeria has up to 500k combat ready troops right now.

Britain had well over 3 million troops in WW1.

Their supply lines and logistics were also superior to ours.

The Nigerian army is currently in a terrible state. Underpaid, ill-equiped, unmotivated, undisciplined.

That's why Boko Haram was able to confidently attack an army barracks, kill over 500 people and get away with it in 2014.

We already saw the end of the case from the beginning.

Thefint1 this is what we were telling u that the case is dead on arrival with or without kiki's agenda driven campaign.

The fact that the husband and wife are both muslims who hail from a state like Kwara where they refrence Islamic clerics so much; It was obvious the case will be sorted in house.

In all of these sha, one thing is obvious : POLYGAMY IS A VERY EXPENSIVE VENTURE.

I read Jarus' sign-out post yesterday and I saw him thank his legal representatives. Apparently he had to employ the services of a law firm owned by a SAN which I believe their standing helped his case. Even though a SAN ordinarily would not appear in Magistrate court, but I'm sure the SAN will give him one of his best lawyers to plead his case. Only God knows how much that single legal appearance will cost him.

I put it to you that Raumdeuter's Polygamy 101 lecture's application to real life will always burn a hole in ur pocket grin

One thing that I picked from the arguments and back and forth is polygamy is more of an African Muslim thing than a world wide Muslim thing

There are majority Muslims in Indonesia, mayalsia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, bangladesh, Pakistan

But it is only the Muslims in Africa who are aggressively marrying multiple wives. When you look at the chart you will realize it is not so much Muslim culture but African culture

Infact you can argue that polygamy is more synonymous with poverty than wealth. Yemen has one of the highest levels of polygamy in the middle East.

This tracks with the zero sum arguments in favor of polygamy which really come down to - polygamy is great because our society has a scarcity of men of means.

Yes they used planes for surveillance but not for bombing

These were light planes which can be brought down by machine gun

They used Zeppelins (Hydrogen balloon) for bombing but wasn't very effective

You are not wrong . Polygamy is an African thing for real. Most of the tribes in Africa long before the Arabs brought Islam and the Missionaries bringing Christianity ; have been steadily practicing polygamy .

It was why some people accepted Islam whole heartedly which some rejected Christianity . Some people who took Christianity to heart had to divorce their wives . Polygamy was one of the reasons some African Christian’s left the Anglican Church and formed the African church .

The African Church allowed polygamy for members and they baptize children of polygamists ( something the Anglican Church frowned at )

By open conventional warfare, you mean no aerial bombardment? Cause I think Nigeria's possession of modern aerial technology would be decisive...maybe if Britain can survive the early bombardments then their industrial capacity would begin to make a difference, but then again, what's the quality of their industrial output from that era compared to what the likes of say ProForce can do? But then ProForce is mainly assembly abi...

This scenario I dey draw is supposed to exclude external influence, just one-on-one isolated warfare.
