Ikwerres Deny Ancestral Affiliation With South-East by muhammaduyusufu: 5:13am On Jul 06 |
The Ikwerre ethnic nationality in Rivers State has insisted that they have no ancestral link with the South-Eastern part of the country, as being erroneously portrayed in some quarters. https://punchng.com/ikwerres-deny-ancestral-affiliation-with-south-east/?amp 74 Likes 6 Shares

They deny affiliation with Igbos but claim they are siblings with Ngwas, Etches etc from the same Igbo tribes. How is that possible? 140 Likes 11 Shares

If Etche and Ngwas are Igbos then logically Ikwerres are Igbos. ahh....this is the modified ad hominem: 114 Likes 14 Shares |

The confusion in Ikwerreland is beyond belief. How can one claim to be siblings with other Igbo clans but deny "Ancestral link" with the same Igbo nation? Is Ngwa not Igbo? Is Etche not Igbo? By this Punch publication, Ikwerre, Etche and Ngwa historically have the same father and mother. They have tied themselves to the Igbo nation by it. It's expected that they review this publication not long from now. 76 Likes 6 Shares |

Paraman: Did you even read the statement to see the foolishness of the author by claiming Aba Ngwa and Ikwerre are siblings? He claimed "His first wife begat two sons Ekpeye and Ogba - and the second wife begat Iwhurohna (Ikwerre), Etche (Igbo) and Ngwa (Igbo). 56 Likes 3 Shares |

Fejoku:You are reading it upside down. “Akalaka moved down with his family of two wives and children to Elele (Okani-eli). His first wife begat two sons – Ekpeye and Ogba – and the second wife begat Iwhurohna, Etche and Ngwa… Iwhurohna, Etche and Ngwa all have Bini ancestry through their father Akalaka (a Bini man). 59 Likes 6 Shares |

Intermarriage happens everywhere, since we settled closer to the igbos, our ancestors married Igbo daughters to avoid marrying their own siblings and somehow the Igbo daughters married into our land taught their children the Igbo language. And this practice happens till date where children found themselves speaking their mother's language. If the Igbos claim we came from them, let's hear their own Kanu and Ojukwu story about the ancestors of Ikwerres. Before the civil war, the Igbos came to settle in Ikwerre land and began to rename our streets bearing our true ancestral names to their language names. Now during the civil war they killed us and did a lot of evil to us whom they now claim is their brothers (since they're unaware of the language-work of their daughters married by our ancestors). Now, when the war was intensified, they ran away (why would they run if they owned the place?). When we saw how we were tricked by those tribes, we took back our properties they stole from us, we won the battle. 80 Likes 21 Shares |

Nigerians are funny people. The title of the thread is opposite of the content. Ngwa is in Abia state but an Igbo speaking tribe in Rivers state who purportedly deny ancestral links with south east says they're brothers with Ngwa who are from the same south east. This drunken opportunists who are catching in on the gullibility of Nigerians. Tomorrow when it favours them, they requested to rejoin Southeast. 12 Likes 2 Shares |

opamoses1:LMAO. Are you now saying Ngwa and Etche are Edoid people? You're like the proverbial bat who totally lost his bearing in a bid to deny being classified into a bird or mammal. The Ekpeyes share the same local government area with the Engennis(Burna boy's ethnic group) in Ahoada West yet they were classified into Igboid and Edoid respectively. Both don't claim to share any affinity whatsoever. Being an anti-Igbo person, it's expected that you interpret any information in such a way that it goes against Igbos. It's nothing new. Let's wait and get comments from other netizens, then we can tell who is reading upside down. 29 Likes 1 Share |

Remman:Did you notice that all the people Ikwerres claim to be their siblings all speak different dialects of Igbo? Ekpeye, Ogba, Etche and Ngwa. Not even one speaks anything related to Bini. Are you now insinuating that they all also married Igbo daughters and those daughters changed their languages? Make una dey think before una dey talk o. 78 Likes 8 Shares |

LadyExcellency: You are the one calling Etche Igbo. Never seen an Etche person in real life who claims to be Igbo only online. Ngwa claim that they migrated from Ikwerre and if they decide they are Igbo that is their problem. I remember one Ngwa fellow on nairaland here who was also talking about how they were misled to tag along with Igbo identity despite warning by Ikwerre. Mek ona move on abeg 45 Likes 9 Shares |

Tranquill:I don't know much about the topic, but I just watched a video of "Nna Mhen TV"after reading the topic and going through the thread. Everyone he interviewed in the Etche community in Rivers State told him they weren't ibos. Although he tried to convince them in saying that they were Ibos. Those ones even pointed out the difference in the languages to him. 30 Likes 5 Shares |
