Because I read on this page that one is supposed to get an email stating application in being reviewed. I read somewhere that it's supposed to be within 48hrs, I don't know if this had changed. Do not expect any emails from the embassy. You can only track the progress of your application through their website. Recently, it took someone’s application three weeks to move to "under review" after posting her application to the embassy. So, relax! God bless you. 🙏

Baby things of high quality are cheaper in Nigeria than here, and the difference is a whole lot (based on my neighbourhood here anyway)

Hello everyone,

About three weeks ago, we welcomed our son and I immediately kick start the PR process.

I had to wait and do all this stuff so I can write a comprehensive post and I hope someone will find it helpful..

We had our baby in Sao Paulo, I don’t know if the process is different in another state.

Immediately after the birth of the baby, we were given a document that I took to the Cartorio to register my baby and get the original birth certificate of the new born.

A few days later, I proceeded with the baby’s RG registration at Paupa Tempo, (RG is the citizenship card of the Brazilian child and you need to make an appointment before going to Paupa Tempo), baby’s picture was captured and we were given a date to come and pick up the RG card.

With those two documents, I can now process the PR for my family and also apply for the baby’s International passport.

Below is a list of documents needed to process the PR.

Online application form confirmation page
Photocopy of all passport pages
Child birth certificate
Child RG
Birth cert translation ( embassy)
Police report translation ( embassy)
Original Police report cert in English
applicant CPF
Payment of 168.13 reais, 204.77 reais each or the PR application
A lot of declaracao (declaration) such as:-
Declaraco de endereco electrónico e demais meios de contato
Certidao estadual de criminais
Certidao de distribuição
Declaracao de residencia
Declaracao de manutenção
Prove or address in Brazil ( bill)
2 passport photo

As for the baby’s international passport, documents needed are:-

The Brazilian child birth certificate.
The Brazilian child RG
Parents international passport,
5x7 passport photograph of the Brazilian child
Online application form
Some declaração (declaration)
Payment of 257.25 reais
(Both parents must be present)


After getting all the documents in order, we went to police federal and submitted the PR application. We now have our protocols while waiting for the actual CRNM card...
We applied for the baby’s passport also and still waiting to pick it up.

Now, the process is not so easy as stated here, in fact, I got frustrated and misplaced my phone in the process. Despite reading the requirements here on this thread and having someone who has gone through the PR process here in Sao Paulo who helped me with the list of documents needed, yet, they didn’t collect our application. We went to Policia federal about 4 times before getting the complete documents. If you meet Mr ‘A’ today and he says you only need one documents and everything is good and you go with the requested documents and meet another person, that person will ask for another thing.

The language is a big barrier so Its better to get a sworn translator or anyone who can speak Portuguese to make things easy… they won’t read whatever you translated with your phone at Policia federal and most of all these places

NOTE - The PR application now takes less than two months In Sao Paulo, in fact, my friends who applied around ending of January got the CRMN card first week in March, that’s about a month.

As for the Nigerian visa for the baby, I'm still waiting for the baby’s passport and making enquiries. As soon as I am done with that, I will revert.

We didn’t get to extend our visas as the timing was right and we applied before our 3 months entry stamp expires.

I'm still gathering information on the provisional citizenship. hopefully, I can apply for my daughter before leaving Brazil If I get her CRNM card on time.

Also, If I remember any additional information regarding the PR process, I will come back and share….

I have done my due diligence by going through the comments on this thread, however, I still have a couple of burning questions which have not been clearly answered. I believe I am not the only one looking for clear answers to these questions. I speak on behalf of all of us .... any useful response we can get will go a long way.

1. At what point of pregnancy is it best to apply for the Tourist Visa? ( I ask this question because we need to conceal pregnancy but at the same time, we also need to ensure that the visa lasts till when the pregnancy is due)

2. Is there a standard duration of the Tourist Visa? Does it vary or does it depend on anything?

3. I understand that we should not use any agent but can anyone give some form of coaching on the kind of questions that may be asked during the interview and how to answer them?

To everybody that wants to apply for a Brazil Visa this is the steps

Get all your documents ready(flight, hotel reservation, bank statement etc)

Create a profile on https://ec-lagos.itamaraty.gov.br/ after creating the profile you will see a manual form you have to print and fill manually, and other things you will need to submit on Brazil main website. The Visa fees and bank account will also be there.

Then visit https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br/sci/pages/web/ui/#/cidadao-nacionalidade you will need to translate to English, click on foreign citizen, then click on visa, fill the forms with the correct information and all. If you are applying for more than 1 person you have to fill the form for every body applying to get the visa, same at the lagos website too *when filling the form choose via courier to transmit your document to embassy*

After filling the form, and attaching your documents which include the manual form you filled and others specifically stated by the lagos ec, then go ahead and print the protocol page which has a space for passport and signature. Attach your passport picture and manually sign the page, then scan the page.

Sign in to your profile on https://ec-lagos.itamaraty.gov.br/ to upload your protocol page, proof of payment and international passport bio data page then click submit.

A mail will be sent to your email associated with the Ec lagos acct about your application being reviewed, at this stage you will have to mail your physical documents including your passport to the embassy in lagos(it will have to be a two way package delivery, you send to embassy then they send back to you)

After sending your documents to embassy visit https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br/sci/pages/web/ui/#/cidadao-nacionalidade then click on check status to see the status of your visa application

you should get France tourist Visa if you want Mexico as France or any other Schengen country Visa will grant free entry to Mexico.

For the Brazil Visa you don't need any lawyer. You are to apply from the Embassy in London. Go to the Brazil consulate site in London and read the procedures and requirements for VIVIS visa. Also read this Nairaland thread and also send the Embassy an email for possible questions you may have. People on this thread are very helpful too so you can always ask specific questions. They charge $1250 for visa processing and follow-ups for the child's citizenship and permanent residency of the parents. I suppose it's worth it considering the services they "claim" to be rendering.
Another option is if I can get recommendations to someone who has gone through the entire childbirth and permanent residency process in the past, and is currently residing in Brazil to carry us along with the whole thing. We discuss payment, then I can pursue the visa process myself.

Do your visa yourself, be rest assured that you will get it so far you have a legal status in the UK. Even Brazilian consulate in Nigeria dey issue VISA like water for some days now.

NB: I will suggest you go for MEXICO. Getting Schengen visa will be easier and you can enter Mexico with that. Shalom.

Big as in very big enough to have almost been turned down from boarding but thankfully I dodged a bullet by not flying Qatar (my preferred choice) based on untamedd's previous post. The airline stressed me a little but I was eventually allowed to fly. I am sure if it was Qatar, it would have been a No-No

You can apply yourself. I have a friend that applied from the UK, I can ask him if he's willing to put you through.

Don't use a lawyer even when you get to Brazil, they just complicate things.

Yes, I was. I think they wanted to check if I was pregnant. I wasn't showing much at the time, so I dressed very well and walked smartly. Some of the questions I was asked:
1. My travel history. Most were work-related so I said this one was for tourism.
2. My marital status, how many kids I had, and whether I was looking to have another one soon.
3. My husband's profession and where he worked.
4. Places I planned to visit and how long I was staying for.
