Don't Ban Single-use Plastics, Polythene Bags, Daddy Hezekiah Tells Tinubu by Ogemdiozoemenam(m): 11:59pm On Jul 08 |
Nigerian Government on Tuesday announced a ban on single-use plastics in government offices as a prelude to a nation-wide ban set to begin in January next year, a move that could stir a storm in a country hugely dependent on plastics. The Minister of State for Environment, Dr Iziaq Kunle Salako, stated this in Abuja, saying the Federal Government will soon implement the Plastic Bags Prohibition Bill banning the Single-Use Plastics (SUPs) such as straws, cutlery, plastic bottles, small water sachets, take-away containers and Styrofoam. When the above law is implemented, Nigerians will stop using straws, cutlery, plastic bottles, small water sachets, take-away containers, waterproof and Styrofoam anywhere within the country whether in markets, event centres or at home. But reacting on this matter in Onitsha, the Founder, Leader and Archbishop of Living Christ Mission Inc, His Grace, The Most Rev Prof Daddy Hezekiah described the move as anti-people policy that would further increase the sufferings of the masses. He noted that polythene bags do not destroy Nigeria but corruption, perversion of justice, rigging of election and oppression. According to him, corruption, pervasion of justice, rigging of election and oppression are the greatest impediments that liter the society as opposed to what the above law sought to address. "Banning of polythene bags and changing of National Anthem are not our priority. Problem of this country will be solved when we root out corruption, pervassion of justice and rigging of election. The later will continue to haunt this country," said the Man of God. Prof Daddy Hezekiah however asked the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider their decision on this matter for the interest of the masses who are already impoverished by the removal of fuel subsidy more than a year ago. He equally urged Presiden Tinubu to urgently restore fuel subsidy in order to lessen the severe hardship in the country, stressing that the subsidy will benefit both the rich and the poor.### |

Tinubu is a capable leader who will effectively address pressing issues like the misuse of singleuse plastics, unlike Atiku who seems more interested in personal gain. 23 Likes |

Will definitely lead to job loss but will sanitize its effect on environmental pollution. Smuggling it into the country is unstoppable. Don’t be surprised to see it being used in parties of big people like politicians, businessmen and celebrities. Who will enforce the ban? |

I believe that Tinubu's governance may have been impacted by the 16 years of wasteful PDP rule, which is why he may not have been able to effectively address the issue of singleuse plastics and polythene bags. It is important for leaders to acknowledge and learn from past mistakes in order to create effective and sustainable policies. |
