This is a good initiative but with poor timing. Right now in Nigeria social activities have drastically reduced as a result of the poverty and hunger level in the land. Malls, restaurants, hotels, nightclubs bars are empty. It’s a good initiative but the poor timing would make it seem like they made a wrong decision when they did nothing wrong. I only hope they are patient enough to wait out the plague |

mrvitalis: Remember that going there would be a holiday/ pleasure trip. People spend more per day while on holiday than they spend normally. Which is why when prices are rising during Christmas, people dey close eye dey spend dey go. The real question is not whether there are people that can spend $50 daily. It's whether we have the numbers that can go there all year round to make it sustainable |

mrvitalis:Rwanda has lush undulating green mountains and a beautiful volcanic mountain. Sun city in south Africa is visited because of its golf courses, casinos and festivals. They should sell out Tinapa to whoever is capable of taking care of it. In the hand of government, it is bound to fail! |

As long as projects like this are in cities that don't have a reasonable amount of spenders that earn enough to be able to enjoy that facility...then it's already a failed project.... |

tvafrique:Looking at the map you uploaded to justify your claim that Calabar is a South Eastern City or town just amplified your ignorance on the geographical location of states in your own country , for the following reason. 1) that Calabar Municipal /city where Tinapa resort is located is just one of the local GOVERNMENT in Crossriver State that is located in the southern part of the state itself. That's why we have Northern Crossriver and Southern Crossriver 2)that Calabar municipality is not actually captured by entire blue area of your reference map and it's actual location falls within the lower part of your cross depicting South-Southern states 3) that your reference map is not fit for the purpose of this discussion as states are mainly defined Geographically divided or classified based on their shared boundaries with other states or boundary with natural features such as water bodies. 2 Likes |

mrvitalis: Sometimes we fail to realize that Nigerians are very poor and lately, more and more people have been thrown into poverty. It's part of reason companies fold up and leave the economy in a haste. The businesses that service the poor are managing to stay afloat. In south Africa for example, you will hear that they have over 2000 spars outlets, 1500 kfcs, 2000 domino pizza... Some provinces have over 50 outlets and they are flourishing. Here, we have less than 50 spar outlets etc in the entire country, some state have none while supposedly rich state like Lagos has less than 6. These are signs abject poverty and none performing economy. 1 Like |

mrvitalis: It can work, but not as a tourist park. You are correct that Nigerians do not have the disposable income to support tourist resorts, but if Tinapa is transformed into a technology and business park to support software, biotechnology, and services, then Tinapa will be more profitable to Nigeria. Tinapa is close to the Atlantic coast, and Calabar has a seaport and airport, hence the investment in a data centre and fast internet cable to support technological companies. I have seen how Western companies have repurposed Olympic parks into housing and technical parks using little investment. 1 Like |

Egypt have thousands years old historical monument that cannot be found anywhere in the world, not in any of the known planets. Miami alone in US have thousands of resorts a million times better than Tinapa. There are levels to this thing. Zxcvbnmghtr: 1 Like |

slowice: When a country is poor, the focus is on productive industries and services. Poor people want to work themselves out of poverty; hence, investment technology parks are more important than resort parks. I spent some time in Vietnam in the 1990s and noticed how private and government resources were dedicated to factories and farming and less investment in entertainment. 2 Likes |

sulaak: You are very correct. Look at the Nigerian government and tell me if they are even aware that the country they govern is poor. The job of the government should be to guide productive resources in the direction of sectors and investment they will create jobs and develop human resources but our are busy majoring on corruption and ambiguous standards. One presidential candidate talked about these in the last election and Nigerians laughed at him and called him stingy. |
