The era of darkness and bloodshed in Igbo land ruled by blood sucking demons through Bakassi boys. One of the reasons I disliked OUK back then in Aba.
Decapitated and burnt corpses littered every street and corner of Aba and by extension,Onitsha. Everywhere appeared gloomy. People were moody. Young boys feared for their lives. The Bakassi boys became a terror, carrying out broad daylight murder of thousands of innocent Nigerians.
Thank God for the intervention of President Obasanjo who sent in troops to fight and uproot the evil setup.

Many of the stories told of Derick here is a lie.
He was only popularised after his death.many didn't know of him. But before his death, robbery was very rampant in Anambra particularly Onitsha in the late 90s to to early 2000. The advent of the Bakassi boys helped reduced it to a minimum but it resurged when the Bakassi boys became compromised and were derailed. Thanks to Peter Obi who helped brought sanity to the state.

If you grew up in Onitsha at the time, you would know.

He was used as scapegoat . From his last word you can confirm that he only committed one crime...the elimination of another criminal ...Can anyone pinpoint one crime he committed aside that?

This was one positive from gov. Mbadiniju even though he was a terror himself ( the ruthless murder of the then NBA chairman and his wife) still leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.
However ,the formation of bakassi boys helped in stemming the tide of unrest in the south east although sadly they themselves became tin gods.

The Bakassi Boys are a prime example that violent crimes could be stopped in a day if the government decides so.

Unfortunately, we now have cultists and robbers in political offices.

If Derico were to be operating in this day and age, a phone call from above would have effected his release and escape to Cotonou or Cameroon even after capture.

The Bakassi Boys really sanitized the South East by speaking to evil in the language it fears and understands: force for force, fire for fire; without thinking twice, without considerations.

Imagine Evans, Abba Kyari, Yahaya Bello and others profiled for crimes still walking freely with political protection.
