Yesterday was good and bad..I have God to thank for it..I collected one of my Corolla from my driver on Friday night for inspection and I ask him to pick it up by 11am on Saturday...I wanted to go to island to quickly check something in d office so as part of the inspection I'll be driving the car, that in my own way is d best method of inspection..He told me there is no fuel so I promise to buy 5k fuel..left home around 6am with a rider going to IKOYI and by 6:15 I was around town-planning connecting Gbagada express to link Northwest filling station, I notice if I applied brake, I find it difficult to move freely again and I was contemplating if d car would get to island or I should just return home... Immediately a car drove to my left side, called my attention and shouted fire, fire..mehn my heart cut, quickly park by d side, very close to the northwest station and I notice my front right tire was on 🔥...rush to the boot, brought out fire extinguisher and that stuff had nothing in it..saw two ragolis water that I quickly pour on it, raise alarm and guys were flying in from different corner with fire extinguisher, agberos brought water and luckily we were able to stop it...I was able to park it in a safe place..Thanks to those agberos...
The way the rider, a lady jumped out to the express, almost knocked down was another story..
The good news is, she booked another ride, I told her I'll followed her as I need to get to d island myself, the new ride came and when I entered the driver shouted my name, we did Nysc together in kebbi about 16 years ago...lost his contact..a very good old friend, we slept on d same bed for 3 weeks..we chatted all tru..He dropped the rider, took me to the office, got his mech to pick the car and fixing commence immediately....caliper was d culprit!!My driver claim the car was ok at d point of dropping it on Friday! Car dey spoil overnight!!

Thank God the worst didn't happen...

I greet you senior men. I'd like to ask, is it advisable to buy a brand new fuel pump for my Honda civic 08 or should I just get a tokumbo one? Asking as a total novice.

Are you buying a new one or Tokunbo?. I bought
my last corrolla belt toks@ 8k. December. Let the mech check the adjuster. It might be too taut.

Okay, thanks boss. But one other thing I forgot to mention is the fuel gauge always reads empty on the dashboard even with half tank of fuel. Could that also be as a result of the bad pump? I just got the car.

Na tokunbo you go buy. New one won't last you up than 2 months, and that's even if you're lucky.

Much respect, boss.

To proffer a lasting solution to this problem. These are the things your mechanic needs to

1. Buy tokunbo belt, instead of new belt. New belt are not strong enough. It cut in few days or few weeks. Tokunbo belt are strong and very scarce, the one they sell in the market nowadays are package like tokunbo belt. You might need someone who really knows the original tokunbo belt to buy it for you. Or else you will end up buying fake tokunbo belt .

2. Check if there is any oil leakage on the belt, Oil can cut serpentine belt if there is a contact with it.
You can check your power steering oil and any other oil if it is leaking on the belt.

3. Let your mechanic check the Adjuster if it is worn out or not properly positioned. If he detects any defect. The adjuster should be changed immediately

4. Check all the pulleys if there is any bad one among them, change the pulley if it has gone bad.

With all these tips, your car should be in good condition and you won't experience the problem again

Good luck

It's possible, check the pulley for any trace of chopped mouth, it could be the one cutting the belt, but before you do that, try get the tokunbo belt, if it cuts under 1month as well, then the pulley is bad...

Maybe because you work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays! Fares are usually low on these days. You will see difference when you work on Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They are also high when it's raining on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but repairs dey wait for U.

Nope that's electrical, either from the pump gauge sensor or your dashboard or fuse. Rewire will check that one

No, check pulley first. If there is mark on any of the pulleys it will still cut the most original of belts. Don't waste money buying belt when the pulley has a sharp chip somewhere.
