Supreme Court Bars FG From Paying Allocations To LGs With Unelected Officials by SamuelOamen: 11:07am On Jul 11

The Supreme Court has held that it is illegal for Governors to dissolve democratically elected Local Governments.

It orders the Federal Government to henceforth withhold allocations to Local Governments governed by unelected officials appointed by the Governor.

The apex court also barred the Federal Government from further paying LG allocations through the State Governments since the practice has been abused by Governors, who retain the funds and utilise them as they please to the detriment of the LGAd for which the monies are meant.

The pronouncements were made in the ongoing judgment of the Supreme Court in the LG autonomy suit filed by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi SAN on behalf is the Fed Govt.

Good development. Tinubu is getting it right gradually. Most of Nigeria problem including poverty and insecurity can be traced to ineffective LG administration.

This seems to be the only good news we have heard from this administration. LG system was rendered dead by successive govts to the advantage of the governors.

This means Fubara and his cornies in rivers state will not get next month LG allocation else local government election into the LG positions are conducted. Same will go for many other states. This is a great judgement.

Let the LG function let's know the names and individuals running our LG, let's hold them accountable.

3rd level of Government fully established !!!
The next is for Inec to take care of LG elections.
At least our streets will be fixed, our drainage will be fixed, now we can hold our grassroot politicians and leaders responsible for bad inter street roads and blocked drainage rather than waiting for he governors to remember us in our area.
