According to the constitution that the Supreme Court just trashed, the states and local governments were mandated to set up a joint account so that they could effectively overcome the challenge of paying the salaries of primary school teachers. Public Primary school teachers are unique in the sense that their salaries are paid by the three tiers of government the FG, states and LGAs. The primary school teachers suffered months of unpaid salaries in the past before the joint account set up because the local governments were the weakest link in the payment chain due to ineffeciencies and stealing and it looks like today's Supreme Court judgement will bring back those dark and gloomy days for public sector primary school teachers nationwide.

Shut up please, if your local government chairman can't pay salary you know his or her secretariat, it's very close to you, arrange the Youth in your community and pay him or her a friendly visit.

That's not correct. Those days, we didn't have strong anti- corruption agencies like the EFCC, ICPC etc. I dare any LG Boss to try carting away the LG allocation now and see the outcome.

Please don't make your local issues a national concern. What business is it of Akwa Ibom if Ekiti doesn't pay teachers or vice versa. The state and local goverment should handle know how to manage or budget. If there's theft the ICPC and EFCC exist. The issue everyone seems to avoid is holding their local leaders accountable. They want the federal government to solve all their issues.

Ps: I know this document is ancient but I think it still relevant.

No one is being targeted, but a decision to save governance in the grassroot from being wipers out by the greedy governors.

Always shouting constitution. The constitution was written by men, most of them barely literate soldiers. It's not a divine manuscript.

No...Fubara is not the target. FG plans to reduce the spending power of the Governors that's why some of them become richer than their state afterwards. That's how it's suppose to be sincerely. Nothing else gives joy than knowing the LG Chairman who is closer to the people. If he Bleep up, e chop beating grin

Who have they jailed for the $69m stolen from Humanitarian ministry? What about the billions swallowed by snakes, etc?

Bunkum.

Is your state governor's office not close to you too? So you think the local government will work while the federal government misbehaves? You think that you can just stroll into the office or house of the local government chairman? You think they won't learn some things from your god?

In as much as the LG autonomy is welcomed. For me I think what we also need now is a strong anti -corruption policy and complete autonomy of the EFCC for them to do their job independently and get their ass right, not forgetting the speedy prosecution of all corrupt cases in court.

Corruption is the major problem with Nigeria. You only succeeded in opening more corrupt opportunities for SOME Local Chairmen. Infact some of them don't even stay in their LG.

Now with this , some of them are already planning on how to marry multiple wives and increase their girl friends allowance.

So EFCC your work just started!
Re: LG Autonomy: Fubara The Intended Target But See The Real Victims by Charmingrascal(m): 7:24am On Jul 12
Why are these set of people always finding fault in every good thing that happen to Nigeria as a country.
Positive news give them headache and increase their sorrows while negative news give them joy and happiness, yet they claim to love Nigeria.
This is so worrisome.

One of the best things that have happened to Nigeria and Nigerians in recent years is this local government autonomy.
Chairmen and councilors are the closest to the people, they can be hold accountable by the people if they mess up unlike Governors, Senators and Reps who are not easily accessible.
Yet y'all have been wailing since the news of this LG autonomy broke, every well meaning Nigerian is happy about this news even my 95 years old neighbor is happy.
But why are only this set of people wailing since yesterday that this news broke.
I swear it is very disturbing and worrisome,

I forgot to add that there will be proper monitoring of money released to LG by the FG, if as a Chairman you are given 700 Million and you decide to give your godfather (Governor) 300 Million and use 400 Million for LG infrastructural development, the anti corruption agency will call you to account for the 700M and not 400M. It is left for the LG Chairmen to use their head because Governors won't be queried when LG money is embezzled, this is a good development.
Even James Ibori an ex convict who became more popular for his corrupt practice and embezzlement more than when he was a Governor has been condemning LG autonomy since yesterday that the new broke, only this says a lot about the set people who are against LG autonomy. They are criminals, thieves and people who don't love Nigeria and don't want any meaningful development for the country
Re: LG Autonomy: Fubara The Intended Target But See The Real Victims by CSTRR: 8:00am On Jul 12
Giving the money directly to the source is something that should be encouraged in this corrupt Nigeria.

Obi practiced it heavily.

When funding schools, he bypasses the ministry of education and gives directly to the schools.

How is Fubara the target of a case that has been in court before Fubara?

Please be objective. There are many states with Caretaker committees leading LGs.

Do you think the Supreme court is that myopic....that the law will change because of a governor who would only be in office for a maximum of 8years?
