How will the modalities of INEC conducting the 774 LGA election be much different than with SIEC.
I know in theory it sounds like it stops governors from influencing and imposing their fave candidates.

larride
Shebi na INEC dey control Guber elections and every incumbent still impose their favorite. while molesting the opponent out of town

But shey no be INEC dey conduct the state guber election wey incumbent still dey runs anyhow dem want

I get the argument for Dissolving SIEC but seems we are working in the opposite direction to federalism and making everything dependent on Abuja all over
We need to make and force the system to work and not just abandoning it to put the responsibility on Abuja. If you elect irresponsible governors then live with it
We dont want State police, we dont want SIEC, then why the need for State govt?
Soon when LG chairman refuse to pay workers we will ask FG to collect every employee account and be crediting them directly

We are asking for the Federal Independent body to conduct the election.

We have seen some resemblance of transparency compared to State organised elections.

The autonomy should also cover elections, or else, Governors go run the same thing again and again

At some points governors have to rule and we the populace have to accept the responsibility of voting good or bad people

We always claim there is too much power in the center we want to reduce it and practice true federalism yet every small thing na to escalate to Abuja

Imagine say na Tinubu appointed INEC chairman dey conduct election into councillor lection n 774 LGA just because we dont trust SG,
Its like a mans wife telling his boss to share his salary directly to the children, feeding money directly to her. decide the school choices and every decision and responsibility in the house because she doesnt trust her husband

And about the election, you don imagine Wike, Yahaya Hope any of your feared governor, being on the seat and INEC running an election in their state you think they wont interfere?

At a point we wont need governors anymore, just scrap them and run things from Abuja. you have to deal with the consequence of your actions and not Abuja save us everytime

izzou larride so what should we do about this again? This looks like abuse of power by LG chairman

So should we take over appointment responsibilities from LG chairman and send to Abuja again
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by PDPGuy: 2:33pm On Jul 11
The Supreme Court judgment is a step in the right direction. But what the LGs need the most is political autonomy. If the SIECs, which are basically in the pockets of the governor, are not scrapped or reformed in a way to guarantee their independence, then a governor would handpick his stooges to be transferring local government funds to his account every month 🤷🏾

This LG autonomy bill is a welcome development

Now developments can reach the people at the grassroots not just stop at state capital
I like the judgement. Any LG chairman that fails to perform will hear from the people since they are the closest to the people

U hit the nail on the head.

Lagos state for example before this judgement the LGA's/LCDA's have been enjoying financial autonomy as Sanwoolu claimed, yet some of those LGA/LCDA chairman are still useless.

Most of them don't live anywhere close to their LGA's at all. Na Lekki most of them dey stay. Ordinary Trunk C road for them to maintain in their LGA they won't do it. They go to their LGA's few times in a month. Maybe if they stay among their people they will have no choice but to work small

Not some, majority of them. Those that are working no pass 3 or 4 and you begin to wonder what the rest are using their own allocation for.

If SIEC continues to hold LG elections, the Governors will just select and handpick the chairmen and send a list to the SIEC commissioner who are appointed and paid by the Governor.

Even in Governorship election, there are some places that some parties cannot win irrespective of whether they are the incumbent or not, it means more parties will control more LG which "should" bring out development for those various LG.

For those who know how James Faleke rose up in politics, it was through being LG chairman, he did serious work infrastructure wise when he was chairman of Ojodu LCDA, almost all the street was tarred, street light and all, a total face lift comes to Ojodu. When he finished his second tenure in 2011, he contested house of rep representing Ikeja federal constituency and won convincingly.

Tinubu didn't discard him. He just became irrelevant.

My anger is with how his son is bleating up and down as if his father matters in the scheme of things.

Make him papa decamp and form NP, let us see how far he goes.

Even thief have opinions

The court's ruling on the matter is an assault on true federalism. The federal government has no right to interfere with the administration of Local Governments in under any guise whatsoever. There are only two tiers of government in a federal system of government.

Omo! Nigerian politicians are just trerrible!

Imagine Ibori saying there are only two tiers of government in a federal government i.e Federal government and state government. So, he's literally saying they taught us nonsense from primary school to secondary that there are 3 tiers of government viz: Federal, state and local governments.

If there are two tiers of government in a federal system of government, then why are they doing LGA election? Abi Ibori don write him own constitution wey he no gree share with us ni?
