How will the modalities of INEC conducting the 774 LGA election be much different than with SIEC.
I know in theory it sounds like it stops governors from influencing and imposing their fave candidates.

larride
Shebi na INEC dey control Guber elections and every incumbent still impose their favorite. while molesting the opponent out of town

But shey no be INEC dey conduct the state guber election wey incumbent still dey runs anyhow dem want

I get the argument for Dissolving SIEC but seems we are working in the opposite direction to federalism and making everything dependent on Abuja all over
We need to make and force the system to work and not just abandoning it to put the responsibility on Abuja. If you elect irresponsible governors then live with it
We dont want State police, we dont want SIEC, then why the need for State govt?
Soon when LG chairman refuse to pay workers we will ask FG to collect every employee account and be crediting them directly
I agree with this, nothing stops state assemblies from granting autonomy to their SIEC through allocations independent of the state executive.

Failed promises and relegation to the background. For a supposed ally, Tinubu just discarded him after all the support. Na dem dey complain, na dem know wetin dem don see.

The man failed his security check. Whatever nuhu ribadu uncovered must have been very very bad. More so that El rufai is his kinsman.

It is hard for me to sympathise with el rufai because of his thuggish out of control son.

In the end El rufai is not a politician.

Tinubu didn't discard him. He just became irrelevant.

My anger is with how his son is bleating up and down as if his father matters in the scheme of things.

Make him papa decamp and form NP, let us see how far he goes.

I think the son probably believes Tinubu is indirectly responsible for his father's current political imbroglio and I will tell u why.

El-Rufai went for the ministerial screening like the rest of the nominees, he was about to be screened when he was informed there's a strong petition against him and that he needs to take a bow while they refer the petition to security agencies and the presidency.(Akpabio said this specifically with his own mouth)

I believe El-Rufai thinks if indeed Tinubu wants him to serve in his cabinet, he will overrule whatever strong petition was against him and he will be confirmed without any drama. Afterall, Bagudu who helped Abacha loot this country dry was confirmed minister despite the hues and cries of people about his past.

Elrufai seeing nobody in the presidency will do him such favours just respected himself and withdrew from the ministerial nomination.

Now, the fact Elrufai had no leg to stand on at the central was enough grounds for Uba Sani to move against him on the home front. I believe the Elrufai boy thinks at least for the sake of his father's solidarity with Tinubu during the campaign, he deserved more than what he got.

This is just what I think o.

It's simple.
You choose between the governors abuse of power through withholding of LG funds or The Potential FG abuse of power through the withholding of LG funds.

Governors have long used that as leverage against the LG.
Will the FG do the same when the president wants to compel a governor to do his bidding 😁

Maybe he meant 2 serious tiers that we concentrate on
But truly no one cares about LGA chairman I just don't like a condemn creature trying to make a comeback

People need to start concentrating on LGA chairmen now. Most of them just use the position to enrich themselves and build a base for them to contest House of assembly elections ni.

When I was in the university, I had an acquaintance (Not really a friend). Their father was a Local government chairman who did 3 terms, levelled up and contested for house of reps. He won the HoR seat and moved to Abuja straight.

It is only during Ileya and Itunu Awe he will come around and do poverty alleviation (by sharing seing machine, grinding machine, Motorcycle, hair dryer etc to his loyalists in the area). Most people can't really point to what he did while he was LGA chairman o.

I think people need to start focusing on LGA chairmen so that people don't just see the seat as a place where u just go to raise ur capital for future political adventure

There are quite a number of places in Alimosho that have good road networks .

Alimosho is not the heart of a city like Ikeja or Lagos Island so u shouldn’t expect to see this kind of intersection , traffic light ,etc. That’s for the main city like Ikeja, VI , etc .

But Alimosho definitely has good roads for a local government that is on the outskirts of Lagos.

In fact Alimsoho get good roads pass Ogun state sef .😄

.....on whether Governors still gonna be controlling the elected Chairmen through SIEC, except the Chairmen gonna be Ododo and not Fubara, it ain't gonna happen.

SC has clearly ruled they can't be removed by Governors and good news is their tenure ain't gonna end before the Governors' tenure, hence they can rebel and still be safe from Governors' sledgehammer.

The judgment of the Supreme Court earlier today affirming fiscal autonomy to local government councils in the country is a win for the people of Nigeria.

The court’s ruling is a step in the right direction and a major corrective action in greasing the wheels of national development across the country.

The decision by the Federal Government to consolidate disbursements of local councils’ revenues into the state government accounts was a decision that was borne out of politics of hasty compromise.

I align with the decision of the Supreme Court that the structure of the Nigerian government is portioned in three layers, and of these, the local governments should be centres of development.

I also share the belief that fiscal autonomy to the local governments should not be limited to revenues from the Federation Accounts, but indeed, should apply to Internally Generated Revenue from the respective local government authorities.

Many of our states, especially those in the ultra urban areas with high density economic activities, have become notorious in muscling local councils from generating revenue on items that border on motor parks, outdoor advertising, rents and many more.

The verdict of the court is in tandem with the core functions of the Supreme Court as an arbitration court between and among governments.

Adamawa Government Seeks Interpretation Of Section 162 Of The Constitution Before The Apex Court

The Adamawa State Government is seeking the Supreme Court's interpretation of Section 162 (1), (2) and (3) of the Constitution regarding the distribution of revenue from the Federation Account. They argue that:

1. The entire sum in the Federation Account must be distributed among all levels of government without deductions, except as permitted by law.
2. The President must comply strictly with the Constitution in managing and distributing revenue.
3. All revenue collected, except those exempted by the Constitution, must be paid into the Federation Account for distribution to all tiers of government.
4. The Federal Government has no discretion to withhold or deduct revenue for any purpose not expressly permitted by the Constitution.

In essence, the Adamawa State Government is seeking a declaration that:

- The Federal Government must distribute the entire revenue from the Federation Account without deductions, except as permitted by law.
- Any deductions or withholdings made without constitutional backing are unconstitutional.
- The Federal Government's discretion to manage revenue is limited to only what is expressly permitted by the Constitution.

The State Government is seeking a strict interpretation of the Constitution to ensure that revenue distribution is done in a transparent and constitutional manner, without arbitrary deductions or withholdings by the Federal Government.
